I dunno...they're close, but as far as I'm concerned, you can't top Brando, Pacino, Caan, and Duvall, and Diane Keaton plays a bigger role in Part II, which is negative.
Speaking of Brando, I also really like On The Waterfront...that should probably replace Requeim For a Dream on my list.
You can give me Pacino, De Niro, Duvall, and Cazale over Brando, Pacino, Caan, and Duvall anyday, personally. Except you obviously can't compare Cazale with Duvall. I just thought Part II had a lot more emotion in it, and it felt like it moved much faster than Part I. Also I thought being a sequel and all, that it didn't let down at all, which is what almost all sequals do. It has one of the best scores I've heard, too. EDIT: of course I love sports. But I almost cannot stand sports movies because of my brother's incredible obession with the Rocky movies. If I heard "YOOOOO, ADIRAN, I DID IT! I DID IT!" again, I'll have to kill Sly Stallone with my own bare hands. |
I've never seen any Godfather movie, Scarface, or Fight Club.
|
Maybe I'll go watch Scarface. I was trying to think of a good movie I felt like watching, and that could be it.
|

I was watching Fight Club earlier today as it was shown on TV.
I really can't understand the hype about that movie. |

I actually really like Fight Club.

Scarface is good, but overlong (as discussed), and Fight Club is good but not really essential in any way. The Godfather films (the first two, at least) are amongst the greatest ever made, though. |

I actually liked Part III :( |

No, that's the thing. Today, I watched the first half hour or so. All I saw was a group of guys beating the hell out of each other. I found it pointless and stupid. But a long time ago when it was shown on TV, I caught the very end. I remember some kind of very deep, thought-invoking ending that wouldn't make an ounce of sense without seeing the rest of the movie. So maybe I should watch the entire movie before I judge. :) |
So maybe I should watch the entire movie before I judge. :)
Sounds like a good idea :) |
Well yea, of course you should. I think the beginning part is just cool, but eventually it gets more important and it runs deeper.
|
I actually liked Part III :(
Well I watched it right on the heels of parts 1 and 2 (this was at the same friend's house where we watched Kill Bill, actually), so maybe how much worse it is was amplified. |
Your friend's house doesn't sound like a good place to watch movies.
|
Well yea, of course you should. I think the beginning part is just cool, but eventually it gets more important and it runs deeper.
I found the violence in the beginning disturbing. Unusual for me as I love a good, pointlessly violent movie. I remember the ending was very confusing - something about there not being another guy and that he was only a fabrication of his mind, or some complicated psychological stuff like that. |

Yeah, an alter-ego. It's better if you watch the whole thing, you'd think the end was a great twist. |
Your friend's house doesn't sound like a good place to watch movies.
Why not? I came away with the idea that the Godfather parts 1 and 2 are brilliant films, and better than the third, and that Kill Bill isn't really worth watching, both of which I stand by having seen them all again since :) |
Guys, don't give away the ending.
|
Yeah, an alter-ego.
Movie talk
Essentially here is my take on it. 1)tarantino is amazing, nothing more, nothing less, if you disagree you are wrong 2)david lynch, bleh 3) my top 10 movies (in no real order): Reservoir Dogs Intermission Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas Empire Strikes Back Pi (often overlooked for requiem for a dream, which i disagree with) Super Troopers (One of the greatest lasting comedic value films i have seen, up there with the big lebowski, which will not make this list unfortunately) Fight Club Hellraiser Boondock Saints Casino word up g. Edit: Bleh i realised i couldnt fit donnie darko on there. consider it a honorable mention |

ive had this particular argument before, many many times, and it usually starts the same way, so i already know why you said that and where the argument would go. let us leave it at that. |
The theme that I've noticed in the few Tarantino movies I've seen have been this; "Kill lots of people. Waste gallons of fake blood."
 I'm going to take a look for Mullholland Drive or Eraserhead at Blockbuster this weekend, Kage. Whoo! |
Awesome! I hope you like it. And the first part of your post, I agree with 100%.
NJ, I'm not sure what you mean.
Well that i can explain easily enough. In quite a few instances in the past, whenever i mention i love tarantino and hate lynch, usually a comment similar to yours is directed at me. The argument always ends up the same way, with my opposition always having the same opinion as all the others who have argued that point, and also goes nowhere, neither of us become changed in opinion at the end |
The reason I called you a moron, is because to say that if a person says Tarantino isn't amazing is "wrong" is a completey ignorant and stupid thing to say. I didn't call you a moron for your opinions. I'm a massive Lynch fan, yet you didn't see me once say to anyone that if you disagree with me that you are wrong. It's personal opinion. I've explained in this thread, though, the techincal reasons why Tarantino isn't that great of a director. As for personal opinion, it's up to you.

fair enough, i was just under the impression that i have been around these boards long enough to be able to make comments like that and not have people take me seriously, but i was wrong i suppose. and im glad youre willing to let other people have different opinions on lynch from you, because most of the people i know (friends or not) who are lynch fans, if you dont like his stuff, they lecture you on how compeltely wrong you are, and blah blah blah. |
Man, the guitar forum really is crap.
