Never heard of happy slaps.

GurS 03-10-2005 11:23 AM

Gur's 101 on how to Happy Slap.

A) Buy a mobile phone with video recording possibilities.
B) Select a victim in the street at random.
C) Pull out your newly purchased video phone, and press the 'record' button.
D) Get a friend to walk up behind the unsuspecting randomer and to slap them really hard accross the a) back of head, or b) face.
E) Watch the video with all the ensuing hillarity.

Once my friend slapped a woman across the back of the head because he thought she was a boy in our class. That was funny.

you'd think that, wouldn't you.

And it was. Until something went wrong.

My 13 year old bro and his mates took it to the next stage - happy flooring. You know how if you knee someone at the back of the knee, they kinda buckle? That's what happy flooring is.

Except the guy that did it to my bro didn't do it properly. My bro ended up rotating ACROSS his knee... like, his leg from the knee down stayed where it was, and the rest of him kinda rotated 180 degrees. He got a big chunk of cartialige ripped off from the top of his femur... they need to operate to remove it, fly it over to Denmark, re-grow the stem and membrane, re-attach it and hope for the best. His leg is fucked for life, he'll probably be walking wtih a limp for the rest of his life. To put it in different terms: if he was an athlete, his career would be over forever. He won't be able to JOG or DANCE for at least a year, and will be in crutches for at least a year too. He now can't do what he's always wanted to do for a career (be a professional wrestler... he'd already booked in classes at a nearby wrestling school), and he won't be able to do most of the running and messing about that most 13 year olds can... and the consultant reckons that there could be more damage which the initial MRI scan didn't pick up :upset:

I feel really sorry for him, which I normally don't, what with him being my bro and all...

Watch this space for updates on his leg.

Heh, that sucks a lot. What did you do with the guy that did it?

But yeah, that's really unfortunate for your brother, heh, at least he won't have to jog anymore? :-/

Good luck with all that.

Ah shit man, that is bad

GurS 03-10-2005 11:38 AM

we haven't done anything to his mate, but his parents are nice AND are really rich, so we're pretty sure they'll offer to pay all the medical fees, and they already sent him loads of presents and stuff just after it happened. It happened a few weeks ago, but they just thought it was minor ligament damage. Today he had an MRI scan and they found out the whole biz :(

Kage 03-10-2005 11:39 AM

You really should sue.
You really should sue.
Probably, but under what law? It's 13 year old kids fucking about, as 13 year old kids do.

Kage 03-10-2005 11:48 AM

Well, I don't know if you live in the US, but you can sue for just about anything...emotional damages, or at least get a settlement that will pay for financial difficulties as a result of it.

It's sort of a lame thing to do, but it just seems like someone should be held accountable for something like that.

GurS 03-10-2005 11:50 AM

The parents of the other kid will be footing the medical bill.

ATM 03-10-2005 11:51 AM

If I were you I would go beat the shit out of whoever did that to my brother.

That's a better option, I think. :thumb:

GurS 03-10-2005 11:52 AM

thing is, my bro did that to people to. He just didn't do what the kid is. How many times you have slapped a mate in the face as a joke? What if you got him in the eye and blinded him? that's what's happened here

superpeer 03-10-2005 12:03 PM

I think the kid who did it must feel bad enough as it is, if he has any kind conscience.

Permanent Solution 03-10-2005 12:17 PM

Sue them? Why? It happens. If you don't want bad things to happen go kill yourself now because bad stuff does. Excess lawsuits have degraded any sense of goodness that can be associated with America. They're footing the medical bill, that's their responsibility, nothing else is. If I go climb Mount Everest and lose a finger to frostbite, I don't sue the company making the gloves for making a bad product. Well the kid put himself in harms way and an accident happens. It sucks, but so does life.

EDIT: To Kage.

Okay fine. But that one thing makes it the worse country in the world, when there are so many others rampant with terrorists and anarchy? That's a small problem we have, yes, and I agree it's pretty stupid the stuff you can sue for, but saying that makes it the worse country is a foolish extreme.

EDIT: And actually, it can be a good thing. Say something happpens like that to a person who financially is unable to pay for medical bills, etc. Getting a lawsuit that would help them pay is good.

It makes it just as bad because there's no balance of freedoms and restrictions. You can and will be sued for anything, so basically there is no freedom, which we supposedly stand for. If they can't afford to pay, suing them will only raise costs that will then bb pinned on taxpayers that play no part in this incident.

My contribution to the leg dilemma, sorry if you disagree:

What happened to your brother is really awful. Having a bad leg for the rest of your life is going to be painful, and the next two years are going to be full of recuperation and recovery.

If your parents were to sue, I highly doubt that they would win. Your brother and mates were admittedly screwing around, and it took a bad turn. Is the attacker at fault? Yeah, absolutely, but the courts are probably going to look at it as kids being kids and that your brother put himself in direct harm of risk.

I hope he recovers well and that it all works out, though :-\

cheers. We wouldn't want to sue, it doesn't solve anything. The kid is really finding it hard to cope with guilt as it is, we only found this out today, I have no idea how he's gonna take it. The parents are already footing the bill, there's no more that my family want from the but to try and remain friends.
