Mick Taylor, definitely.
|
i'd pick wood, mostly cuz i'm not nearly as familiar with the others, and those glasses are stylin.
|
I voted Clapton. There was a lot of great guitarists on that page, but I'm a huge Clapton fan.
For the smart kids only, too.
Oooh, classy  I've been on a huge Rush kick lately. |
I voted Gilmour, such emotional playing.
Comfortably Numb = guitar solo perfection WYWH, particularly Shine On- way the guitar "speaks" is just phenomonal. I also think Wood's underrated. It hurts him that shortly after he came the rest of the band started to decline. Who's everyone's favorite Stones guitarist besides Richards, Jones, Taylor, or Wood? I'm undecided but probably Taylor.
Yeah, to be honest, I think the first solo in Comfortably Numb is better then the second. I just get more emotion out of it, the second one seems to be put in for Gilmour to show off (and boy does he ever). And yeah Syd's theme in Shine On is my favorite basic gutiar riff. My favorite stones guitarist is Brian Jones. |
Mick Taylor, definitely.
I said Taylor, and am a big Rolling Stones fan, but does anyone know why Taylor got kicked out of the band? Was it drug use? BTW if you like Taylor, he plays on Infidels and Real Live by Dylan, some pretty sweet blues licks. |

Maybe he left because Mick and Keef were so badly hooked on drugs at the time, and he didn't want a part of it. I like Brian Jones's style a lot, very experimental. He reminds me a bit of Jeff Beck and a little Hendrix, too. If only he was still alive....:( And that, kids, is why drugs and alcohol = pain and suffering in the end. |
I'm pretty sure Taylor just up and left when the Stones were declining...
And ironically, the band didn't begin to take off until after Jones died. |
I'm pretty sure Taylor just up and left when the Stones were declining...
And ironically, the band didn't begin to take off until after Jones died.
Kinda like AC/DC with Bon Scott. And, correction: In my last post, I said I voted for Clapton. I mas mistaken which poll we were discussing. I voted Gilmour for this one. |
And that, kids, is why drugs and alcohol = pain and suffering in the end.
Speaking of that tried a new one it's called "freeon" it comes from AC units you inhale it. When I did everything went blury and everything you hear sounded like zapping it was really cool but it only lasted 30-70 seconds.
Classic Rock related topic: Donovan is really awsome. |

Inhalants? Come on, that's the lowest of the low--a White Trash drug, if you will. And while drugs and alcohol always end lives prematurely, they are brilliant muses. Am I using "muse" right? |

Classic Rock related topic: Donovan is really awsome.
 That sounds pretty crazy, just be carful man don't inhale too fast, I know for most things you inhale if you inhale too fast its really not good. I've never heard a single song by Donovan, what is a good place to start? |
I couldn't give a **** what you think besides it's free and that's what counts.
You get what you pay for. |
Inhalents aren't good.

Im not too sure Im starting out my self but his greatest hits are really good. Did anyone know that crappy drawing on the cover of Big Pink was by Bob Dylan? |
I couldn't give a **** what you think besides it's free and that's what counts.
Oh snap! You're poor and you don't give a **** about what others think. Once you get that addiction going you with be definitive street trash. Don't do that crap. |
Ok lets not get into whos gonna screw their life up on what, we are all classic rock fans so we all can think of a million examples of how drugs are dangerous just from the example of the people we listen to, so we all know the dangers.

I may be poor but I cant get hooked. Remember the "Weed is addictive" arguement? Edit: Besides it was one time thing. |
Im not doing it on regular base so I should be safe.
Im not too sure Im starting out my self but his greatest hits are really good. Alright thanks anyway, I'll cheak my dads cds to see if he has any.
Did anyone know that crappy drawing on the cover of Big Pink was by Bob Dylan?
 Crazy Bob Dylan. |
I may be poor but I cant get hooked. Remember the "Weed is addictive" arguement?
No you won't get addicted, but that stuff does mess with your mind quite well. And it wouldn't be that bad of an assumption to say you live the "I'll try anything at least once" lifestyle.
Edit: Besides it was one time thing.
I would hope so. Plenty of my brother's friends have been sent to the hospital due to bad reactions or by inhaling too much. |
I really like Donovan as well...I couldn't really suggest an album though. I just have his Greatest Hits record. My favourite song is definitely Hurdy Gurdy Man, that song's amazing.
edit- Here's the real question....do you think Eddie Van Halen or Kirk Hammet should have more votes on the poll? Right now EVH is actually tied in last place with Santana. Unless I missed something (which is always possible). |
i have an interesting question. How come there are no good female rockers these days? Back in the day there was Joan Jett, Sweeney Todd, Stevie Nicks, Janis Joplin..but now a days all the female artists seem to be either pop and R&B, or really extreme (i.e. kitty..they're scary). Just seems like women have lost interest in rock and roll.

Kim Gordon...

who's that?

I suppose the same reason you don't see as many good male rockers these days. I'm not saying there aren't any good rock bands these days, they just aren't as common in the mainstream culture. I actually just found out a singer/songwriter lady that I played guitar for last year is now making it big-time. She won some awards at like Canadian awards for songwriting or something, and she's actually playing for the Queen when she comes to Canada soon. |
who's that?
Bassist/occasional singer and songwriter for Sonic Youth |
I'm sure if I was more into modern rock I could find some female artists who are worthy of praise. I just don't listen to a lot of modern rock. Just the other day someone laughed at me because I called a band that broke up in the mid nineties a new band.
|
Sonic Youth has been around since the late 70's...
|
Though they were better while Bon Scott was alive.
I can listen to both singers, but I prefer Bon fo' shizzle. np: George Harrison - My Sweet Lord. Also, I picked up Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here the other day. |
