Bye J.

Dead Star 08-17-2005 04:09 PM

First I have found something interesting out.

I don't know if anyone can remember the Sputnik F.A. slot competition, but here was my Entry.
Green Day - Dookie

This album is one of the most recognised albums known to the world, not just pop-punk. This album set the tone of future pop-punk albums to come, and also rocketed the Berkely trio to fame. The album is fast paced, but ocassionally shows a softer side to the band, with the song She This album has spawned many gems to the world such as the tom pounding Longview, which is recognised by its catchy bass riff, When I Come Around, and Basket Case, which is considered by many to be Green Day's greatest song by far. Every track on this CD however is easily eligable for release as a single, and this goes to show the sheer class this record has compared to many others. This is definitely one of pop-punk's greatest albums.
And here is what's on the Sputnik Website.

Did you report that? Because that's really not cool...

Dead Star 08-17-2005 04:12 PM

No I just found it out.

And I have to go to bed 12 mins ago.

Feel free to report away.

Edit- I reported it.

Nightvision 08-17-2005 05:07 PM

who's online, guys?

I need mix-tape assistance. :|

ChodaBoy 08-17-2005 05:08 PM

Im here!
Although I dont know what help i'll be

Fish 08-17-2005 05:09 PM

im, kinda here

Nightvision 08-17-2005 05:18 PM

yo. :)

Right, I shall explain:

I'm sort of seeing someone at the moment - she's a nice girl, reasonably good looking, and seems fairly up for anything (you decide which of these is best)... however, there is a problem. She has a horrible taste in music. She's 18, and she considers McFly and Busted to be good music. This has to change, as I'm sure you understand.

I'm not trying to get her into Coheed and Cambria straight away, but I do feel duty bound to start persuading her that there are actually talented bands out there deserving of her attention. So I'm looking for a mix tape (about 15 songs max) full of songs that are going to be close-ish to the stuff she's into at the moment, but different enough to at least be semi-credible bands.

So far I have:

1. Allister - Somewhere On Fullerton
2. New Found Glory - Dressed to Kill
3. Jimmy Eat World - The Middle
4. -Brodie- - When I'm With You
...

I need more! Remember, they have to lean on the pop side of things... I'd also quite like a couple of slower, possibly acoustic songs too...

Fish 08-17-2005 05:21 PM

Plays Pretty For Baby - Saosin

poprocks&coke 08-17-2005 05:24 PM

Some Fall Out Boy and maybe some All-American Rejects stuff...

All American Rejects - Swing, Swing
Fall Out Boy - Grand Theft Autumn

Mute Print 08-17-2005 05:26 PM

I suggest:

Fall Out Boy - Grand Theft Autumn (Electric or Acoustic)
Brand New - Jude Law and a Semester Abroad
Taking Back Sunday - Cute Without the E (Cut From the Team)
The Starting Line - Best of Me (Electric or Acoustic)
All American Rejects - Dirty Little Secret, or Swing Swing
Ataris - In This Diary
American Hi-Fi - Falvor of the Week
Matchbook Romance - The Greatest Fall (of All Time)
Relient K - I So Hate Consequences
Saves the Day - Firefly
Something Corporate - Konstantine, or Space
Sugarcult - Pretty Girl (the Way), or Bouncing Off the Walls
Yellowcard - Only One

poprocks&coke 08-17-2005 05:27 PM

Show off.

Nightvision 08-17-2005 05:28 PM

oooh, good call P&C (sorry, don't think I caught your name... :( )

swing, swing annoys the hell out of me... I like the music, but AAR's lyrics are diabolical. Still, she'll probably like it. It's on teh list. :)

5. All American Rejects - Swing, Swing

ChodaBoy 08-17-2005 05:29 PM

Jason, babydoll, try and snap some pictures of her.

Make sure you're in them :naughty:

Nightvision 08-17-2005 05:29 PM

very good calls there ESP - some bands I love that I'd forgotten to include...

Mute Print 08-17-2005 05:29 PM

Imaginary rep++ for these choices.

Gnarmageddon 08-17-2005 05:39 PM

Hahaha, James is stoned.

And for Jason, here's some songs.

Action Action - Drug Like
Action Action - Basic Tiny Fragments
Something Corporate - As You Sleep
Something Corporate - Konstantine (If you have a lot of room left on the CD :p)
Brand New - Jude Law And A Semester Abroad

And you could probably also throw Co&Ca - Blood Red Summer in there. She would probably like it because it's so catchy.

Mute Print 08-17-2005 05:39 PM

Good call with Action Action. Such an awesome band.

Nightvision 08-17-2005 05:40 PM

I loved Another Perfect Day... American Hi-Fi's S/T album is an under-rated gem. The next one was a bit naff though.

Nightvision 08-17-2005 05:42 PM

I am thinking of putting Konstantine on there... it's my favourite song ever (just ahead of 'Table For Glasses' by J.E.W) and it's been on like, every mix tape I've ever made for anyone. I guess it does kind of deserve the place on there.

I don't see how anyone couldn't like them.

poprocks&coke 08-17-2005 05:44 PM

Put some Slayer on there too :p

Nightvision 08-17-2005 05:46 PM

haha... Meshugga, Soulfly and Cryptosy should go down well... :D

Mute Print 08-17-2005 05:49 PM

Anberlin - Readyfuels
Mae - Sun

Those would be good too.

Nightvision 08-17-2005 05:54 PM

hmmm, I'll have to check some of these out myself... I've not heard anything by anberlin, and I don't remember hearing any Action, Action.

billiejoe84 08-17-2005 05:55 PM

Yeah, Konstantine is right up there for me too. My all-time favourite song is oddly also by JEW, but not Table For Glasses. Polaris for me...
