NRPS - Panama Red is a cool song. I've listened to it like 5 times today, it's so annoyingly catchy.

I have heard that song so much when I was little, but I didn't know NRPS did it, it's on Old and In The Way's Breakdown, Which must have been left on repeat in our car during an 8 hour dirve or something, along with Jimmy Buffet, A Momentary Lapse of Reason (Pink Floyd), and some CD that's like "Thank God The Tiki Bar's Still Open". And John Prine. Bah

What did you guys have to listen to as small children?

Illmatic 08-23-2005 09:28 PM
What did you guys have to listen to as small children?
My dad would play a lot of jazz, funk, soul, and R&B
Who?
A really annoying user who spammed this thread by posting "Another Brick in the Wall Pt. II" in seperate posts like.
We don't need no education

We don't need no thought control
I think everyone learned to ignore him, because eventually he stopped posting.

Edit: Jeez, I was jerk back then.

My dad always had either The Allmans or Steely Dan on in the car. I remember always liking ABB, but Steely Dan took me longer to get into.

My mom on the other hand usually has Jimmy Buffet or Toby Keith on :-/ She does like the Stones though and I think I heard 40 Licks about 12 times to and from the beach, along with Jimmy Buffet's greatest hits.

Hey Badmoon, remember that themightyquinn guy? I just found the page where he left.

He leaves because he said we talked too much about Neil Young and CSNY.

@*#&%!!!

The skynrd concert I was supposed to go to this Sunday was cancelled! Something to do with the singer! I'm not a big fan of them but it would have been fun to see them in concert...

Maybe next tour...

BassMasterMike88 08-24-2005 09:19 AM

^
I wouldn't bother, todays Skynrd is basicly its own tribute band. Isn't there only one original member still alive?

Glitterati 08-24-2005 09:19 AM

That thing about the Skynyrd concert sucks :(

w00t, 1,000 posts.

At least you didn't have 8th row tickets for Zooma Tour :upset:

I still haven't recovered :(

Seafroggys 08-24-2005 11:05 AM

Random thought I had, but is there any recorded history as to what happened to Townshend's SG after he tossed it into the crowd at Woodstock?

Broken Arrow 08-24-2005 11:06 AM

I saw the festival Express last night.

It was so awesome.

Lunch 08-24-2005 11:12 AM

Still haven't seen that, but at least I have the Grateful Dead movie to keep me occupied.

magicbus 08-24-2005 11:15 AM

The Festival Express is awesome.

jpj 08-24-2005 11:23 AM

I really want that, but it's always like $30 and I currently have no money to spend on CD's/DVD's :upset:

Lunch 08-24-2005 11:29 AM

As much as I'd like to be buying more cd's and a new acoustic guitar, I have to save my money for college. For like the next 50 years.

Walrus Gumboot 08-24-2005 12:32 PM

My library is pretty cool, I got Festival Express there. I think I enjoyed reading about it more though.

thickasabrick 08-24-2005 12:35 PM

Man I was looking at that conversation a while back with themightyquinn or whatever his name was...I can't beleive I didn't use capitals back then. That guy was pretty stupid though, we have like half a page of talk about CSNY/members and he ends up leaving the thread entirely. Oh well, no big loss.

edit- and I basically listened to anything when I was a kid. Me, my brother, and this kid down the street would all put on my dads records and bounce around on the furniture in the basement singing along and stuff. I went through a period where I did "performances" of Billy Joel songs where I sang along with a little plastic microphone in front of my parents...I was pretty young though. Then when I got a little older I listened to a lot of Alanis Morrisette, which is always kind of odd to look back upon. Then I basically just listened to whatever was popular at the time until I discovered The Rolling Stones when I was in Grade 6.

I've gotten a ton of sweet CDs from my library and ripped them to my computer. Frank Zappa's Freak Out!, The Smiths' Meat Is Murder, The Beatles' Revolver..good selection.

Well, if you read back we do keep on bringing CSNY up again and agaon but yeah, that guy was stupid.

PinkFreud 08-24-2005 01:16 PM

i havent been on for a bit. stupid terrible college wireless internet.

magicbus 08-24-2005 01:23 PM

Ok, I was listening to Yessongs, and I was thinking about how live songs can generally be longer than the studio version due to improvisation.

Then I realized the vocal parts are the same, and the instruments are what improvise and make the song longer. Like there'll be an extra few bars for the solo, but never for the verse.

Have you guys ever heard a live song where the vocalist will make up lyrics on the spot and use those to improvise rather than instruments? Maybe I'm thinking too hard.

BludgeonySteve 08-24-2005 01:28 PM

Led Zeppelin. He adds a lot of "baby baby" "oh yeah!" and crap like that to every line. Especially in the whole lotta love medley.

magicbus 08-24-2005 01:29 PM
Led Zeppelin. He adds a lot of "baby baby" "oh yeah!" and crap like that to every line. Especially in the whole lotta love medly.
Yea but I mean like entire lines, or verses that aren't in the original song. Has it ever been done?

BludgeonySteve 08-24-2005 01:31 PM

Led Zeppelin Whole Lotta Love Medely, actually. He adds lines from old blues songs and a few of his own that he never used in songs.
