gaslight 01-16-2009 06:29 AM

Pretty much every news article out of Russia is a fake.

gaslight 01-16-2009 08:03 AM

May god have mercy on our souls.

I_WEAR_RED_PANTS 01-16-2009 09:42 AM

big80smullet 01-16-2009 05:58 PM

uhh work this arvo. 2 till whenever :(

rasputin 01-16-2009 06:57 PM

I haven't worked in almost 2 months :(
Feel pretty bad.

big80smullet 01-16-2009 07:02 PM

why do you feel bad? id be feeling pretty damn good

gaslight 01-16-2009 07:04 PM

Yeah I'm having a depressingly bad time trying to find employment.

No money and no job makes a man feel quite useless, and especially annoyed when ou can go around every day and see retards doing jobs you could do a hundred times better. Don't even get me started on people who do jobs that involve talking to customers and who can barely speak English. Christ.

big80smullet 01-16-2009 07:11 PM

are you applying actively or just halfheartedly looking though? I got a job within two weeks once i actually started looking properly

gaslight 01-16-2009 07:15 PM

I've applied for about ten jobs in the last month.

Aaron 01-16-2009 07:25 PM

Anyone want to do my job, but pay my mortgage?

gaslight 01-16-2009 07:30 PM

Haha.

Get someone who doesn't speak much English to sign that contract.

Reminds me of the playground in primary school, convincing the little kids to swap their $2 for your 50c because your coin was bigger and hence worth more.

Then not actually doing it of course, because I'm a pretty nice guy. It's a good lesson for the children though; don't trust anyone.

rasputin 01-16-2009 07:35 PM
why do you feel bad? id be feeling pretty damn good
Because i'm going on exchange in about a years time and I need money. I have a job it's just I haven't had any shifts for the said 2 months, and I won't until probably mid-feb. I was going to get a second job in November but I didn't and now I'm pretty lazy about it.

gaslight 01-16-2009 07:42 PM

Not that many places hiring at the moment, economy in the turlet and all. Consarnit.

Aaron 01-16-2009 08:06 PM

Haha, good times.

I_WEAR_RED_PANTS 01-16-2009 08:53 PM

who should i watch at soundwave NIN or LOG

they're both on at the same time.

Meatplow 01-16-2009 09:16 PM

stand in between

gaslight 01-16-2009 10:07 PM

Hmm I'd say NIN but I don't really like either a huge amount.

badtaste 01-16-2009 10:40 PM
stand in between

I haven't worked in almost 2 months :(
Feel pretty bad.
Six months here. Job hunting has become an emo activity for me.

gaslight 01-16-2009 10:42 PM

Ah well.

At least there's a lot of cricket on.

Chu 01-16-2009 10:52 PM

I have never worked a day in my life. :smoke:

I can't stand beach cricket, I want more one-dayers though.

gaslight 01-16-2009 10:53 PM

There's a one dayer tomorrow.

I didn't watch the beach cricket, didn't know it was on haha. I think it was just a charity event though so good on them.

And yes Chu we're all reminded often of your not working :p. Godspeed.

Chu 01-16-2009 10:56 PM

I think the beach cricket is on every Saturday.

NZ vs SA, and Aus vs SA today, don't know how the game works though.

gaslight 01-16-2009 10:58 PM

I can't imagine how it'd work professionally haha.

Hell I've never really played it recreationally either.

Without umpires the whole sport of cricket is really just to hit it as far as you can or failing that into the face or groin of someone you disapprove of.

Aaron 01-16-2009 11:04 PM

NIN; both for not being Lamb of God and for being NIN.

badtaste 01-16-2009 11:09 PM

They're just retired players having a whack for fun I guess.

and lol chu, please employ me when you create the next big thing in IT.

Aaron 01-16-2009 11:14 PM

Chu and I are going to become life coaches. True story.

gaslight 01-16-2009 11:15 PM

Yeah Chu can I do data entry for you or soundtrack work. Both?

RunAmokRampant 01-16-2009 11:25 PM

I'm seeing an advanced screening of Gran Torino tonight. Should be good.

Aaron 01-16-2009 11:31 PM

I'm having a very late lunch; a mango and 125g of salted cashews. Damn diet.

Chu 01-17-2009 02:30 AM

I actually do plan on starting my own company :D

You guys are invited to join (if anyone of you are aware of silicon valley during the dotcom-era boom, that is how my company will be structured, another google), but understand I might not be able to pay you much for a while (honestly, it won't be because I'm paying myself, the money will evenly be spread out across the employees).

I'm very passionate about Open Source software, and my company will reflect this, we will mainly generate income via;
a) donations (likely?),
b) support, or
c) some other case I haven't worked out.

I have done no training in business, but do plan on taking a few courses when (if) the possibility approaches me. If anyone has, they are welcome to take reign as CEO (CIO?), or at least the business director/visionary.

Edit: An Evan won't be at work when I have to ask him a question.
Jaunty Jackalope is not being released until April!

I want to upgrade to Intrepid Ibex, do you upgrade via the Ubuntu installer*? Or download the new iso, burn it and re-install that way?

*I realise you could not write over the kernel while it is running...

gaslight 01-17-2009 02:33 AM

So Chu, would you pay us in shares initially?

What can I do in your company?

NSW are getting monstered. 4 for 39 in the 6.2 over.

Chu 01-17-2009 02:43 AM

Yes, everyone would be payed in an equal amount of shares initially.

If you are familiar with how Canonical release Ubuntu;
Instead of selling Ubuntu for profit, Canonical creates revenue by selling technical support. By keeping Ubuntu free and open source, Canonical is able to take advantage of the talents of outside developers in Ubuntu's constituent components with out developing the entire operating system itself.
Basically, it will be a very similar model.

What this means, is anything you contribute to an open-source project (media (music/art), d0cumentation, translation, coding, management, etc) would potentially count as work for the company (although it will be emphasized to do inter-company work, there will be no contract clause which says you have to).

Honestly, I haven't really planned it that much, I have a basic image for how I see it working, I will try to guide it towards that, probably with out providing any formal d0cumentation/plan....

Meatplow 01-17-2009 02:46 AM

chu, I am interested. may I be executive vice manager?
