Or a guitar. Gilmour on the air guitar would still sound sweet to the ears.
Hahaha very true.

i don't know lol 02-07-2007 09:06 PM

lots of nice band threads here. pink floysd is on of my favorites. i like the roger water years over the Syd ones. but Syd was cool.

Yield 02-07-2007 09:15 PM

I personally like the Waters-era albums more, but I have favorites from all of the Pink Floyd styles.

i don't know lol 02-07-2007 10:51 PM

i'm really only a waters era fan. i consider that DSOTM on up. although gilmour always maintained a strong influence. i prefer the last two albums, too, because those were heavily waters. i think the wall and the final cut are the best albums they ever made. and syd? what about him? too far gone for me to care.

rippa32 02-08-2007 12:46 AM

Is it possible for you to catch Water's live this tour? Because seeing your taste's youd love that show.

Jim 02-08-2007 12:59 AM
i think the wall and the final cut are the best albums they ever made.
These are both my favourite Floyd albums :)

Although, the sheer diversity of their music ensures everyone has different favourites, all with a valid case.

MattSharpIsCool 02-08-2007 01:05 AM

My favorites are Darkside and The Wall.

Jesus that's just about as cliche as you can get :upset:

Jim 02-08-2007 01:06 AM

Don't forget Animals.

:P

MattSharpIsCool 02-08-2007 01:30 AM

I'm going to flip a coin between Animals and Meddle. Whichever album wins the coin toss will be my new second favorite Floyd album. But Obscured By Clouds is really good too.....can someone invent a three-sided quarter?

Jim 02-08-2007 01:33 AM

They did, but no one had a two-headed president/queen to put on it =/

i might be able to. i have my fingers crossed.
These are both my favourite Floyd albums :) Although, the sheer diversity of their music ensures everyone has different favourites, all with a valid case.
thats true. they have some good work behind them through all periods.

rippa32 02-08-2007 02:55 AM

My only real experiance with the old stuff before Meddle and after Syd is Set The Controls For The Heart of The Sun and Careful with that Axe Eugene, but even though they are different you can still hear similarities in that to the later stuff. For a start its all very spacey.

Riva 02-08-2007 03:21 AM

Hrm, I can't rank Pink Floyd's albums, I'm sorry guys.

Apocalyptic Raids 02-08-2007 04:40 AM

I can rank a top 5 or 6, but after that I haven't really paid enough attention/can't be bothered to rank them.

Riva 02-08-2007 05:04 AM

It's too hard for me to rank the top 5 even, though I can probably put down my least favourite 3.

Apocalyptic Raids 02-08-2007 05:05 AM

lets hear it then!

LF96 02-08-2007 10:42 AM

So I picked up The Final Cut yesterday on vinyl, and I enjoyed it much more than I expected to after reading some reviews. I actually really like the general feel the album has, and the lyrics and vocals are awesome throughout. But indeed, some of the music could have been better. The melody of One Of The Few reminded me a lot (and maybe even a bit too much) of the guitar melody in The Flames Beyond The Cold Mountain by Mono (check www.mono-44.com).

magicbus 02-08-2007 11:00 AM

Ranking albums again?! I still remember the last time we did this.

rippa32 02-08-2007 06:27 PM

Didn't Animals usually win?

magicbus 02-08-2007 06:30 PM

No, I meant personal rankings. And Animals never topped my list, that's for sure.

Ephemeral 02-08-2007 07:41 PM
No, Dave definitely did all the slide work.
where the hell did i hear that then. I heard it was roger with a slack tuned fender strat or something

MattSharpIsCool 02-08-2007 07:48 PM

Well David played a bass with old worn down strings on One Of These Days, along with Roger. Maybe you just got mixed up?

I can rank my two favorite Floyd albums, but after that, they're just "good" or "not so good".

Riva 02-08-2007 08:01 PM

Yeah, that galloping bass intro is great. And on Delicate Sound Of Thunder it sounds even better, though the rest of the song isn't as good as the Meddle version.

Also, out of interest, who pronounces Meddle as "meddle", (such as being nosy) and who says it as "medley" (like an amalgamation of things)?

I say it both ways, depending on if I'm thinking it or saying it. :p

MBS 02-08-2007 08:04 PM

I say, you're Australian and I don't quite understand how you can get "medley" out of "meddle"

Ephemeral 02-08-2007 08:05 PM

I say it "Meddle"

Riva 02-08-2007 08:11 PM
I say, you're Australian and I don't quite understand how you can get "medley" out of "meddle"
Well, I've heard it pronounced Medley by Roger, actually. I think...

Crazy.

MattSharpIsCool 02-08-2007 08:34 PM

Roger may say it "medley" but he sure spelled it wrong if that's the case.

Eliminator 02-08-2007 08:35 PM

i was listening to the madcap laughs the other day

MattSharpIsCool 02-08-2007 08:40 PM

Do you have the one with all the outtakes on it?

Some of those are pretty crazy. Which makes sense, seeing as Syd was crazy.

Riva 02-08-2007 08:46 PM

I have that version, and I love it. I think it shows how child-like Syd's view of the world was at times.

Montana 02-08-2007 09:06 PM

I still haven't heard the Madcap Laughs. I have heard Barrett though, which I think is an ok album.

I'm gonna go download The Madcap Laughs now.

Leper 02-09-2007 01:00 AM

I don't really like Barrett. I want to hear Madcap Laughs. I as well have never heard it. :(

Danger Bird 02-09-2007 01:05 AM

I never even considered pronouncing it "medley"

Jim 02-09-2007 01:08 AM

Roger's prone to mistakes though. In several interviews I've read and seen, he keeps saying that Corporal Clegg was on their first album. And it isn't, quite frankly.

Anyone else seen noticed this???

MattSharpIsCool 02-09-2007 01:18 AM

Well, it was almost 40 years ago when that came out.

I'm not such a fan of Barret, either. It's alright, but I kind of like the feel from The Madcap Laughs. You can tell it's really Syd on that album, if you know what I mean.

Dr. Jake Destructo 02-09-2007 01:30 AM

For the record, I say metal.

rippa32 02-09-2007 01:47 AM

Another one? Ive always said Meddle.

Surf 02-09-2007 07:12 AM

med·dle tbh, I never heard anyone else pronounce it otherwise. Medley is just weird.

And I don't like much of any of Sid's solo work. I'm not even a big fan of his Floyd work.

TojesDolan 02-09-2007 01:27 PM

what Surf said. I'm rediscovering the awesome of Syd Barretts'-Floyd era... wow. Brilliant music.
