It does doesn't it ;) . Nah, I shook his hand at his guitar clinic and I'm proud of it! :p
Imagine if you would have crushed his hand in your mighty grip !

No more guitar for John.

strowen 10-29-2005 03:03 PM

The Peruvian Skies solo is one of my favourites ever <3

Triangle 10-29-2005 03:04 PM
I know what you mean, I got pretty emotional when I first watched that, and live it was incredible, the atmosphere in the place was so good. And then in comes the intro to LTL...
I know, I was almost in some sort of hypnotic state I was getting so much into that song live. It was screwed up!

I spent the whole of all their gigs just spellbound by them...

scenesfromatheater 10-29-2005 05:46 PM

I was loving Under a Glass Moon on Wednesday. They did a random bit at 4:00, and just kept on doing random notes for a while, then Rudess went into the circus tune(from the end of Universal Mind). Made me laugh very much so.

Jev 10-29-2005 06:05 PM

Yeah they did that monday too. And a random Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

scenesfromatheater 10-29-2005 06:08 PM

Darn, they didn't do that for us simple folks.:upset: What song was it in?

I really can't remember but it was like an uber cool version on keyboard.

ooooohhhhhhh.....I really want to hear it now.:upset:

It was a replacement for my favourite Jr keyboard solo... I don't think I've ever been so pissed off seeing them. The solo at around 6:30 minutes. It's the sex.

nowitzki 10-30-2005 05:06 AM

You didn't say which song... Endless Sacrifice

shamed-angel 10-30-2005 05:30 AM

Shit. I didn't did I... hehe.
Just wondering, scenesfromatheater and nowitzki, do you know each other? You're both from Derby, so I thought you might? Sorry if I'm a bit slow on this.

Triangle 10-30-2005 05:41 AM

Endless Sacrifice was great live. It really worked well live and sounded a lot better than the album version.

shamed-angel 10-30-2005 05:42 AM

I suppose, I just really love that keyboard solo, last year they played it and I nearly wet myself.

Lacrymosa 10-30-2005 09:52 AM
The Peruvian Skies solo is one of my favourites ever <3
Yeah that is a great solo. I also like The Spirit Carries On and Hollow Years. ( live at Budokan. ) Those are my fav. Petrucci solos :thumb:

shamed-angel 10-30-2005 10:04 AM

I HATE Hollow Years. That song sucks. Soo bad.

Lacrymosa 10-30-2005 10:12 AM
I HATE Hollow Years. That song sucks. Soo bad.
It doesn't exactly suck. If you don't like it, fine. But that doesn't mean that it sucks ( Especially not when it's written by a band with so much talend. )

You are probably more a fan of Dream Theater's heavier stuff aren't you ?

shamed-angel 10-30-2005 10:13 AM

I'm a fan of their stuff that wasn't written with the sole intention of being on the radio. I'm not a huge fan of their heavier stuff. Just their more Progressive stuff.

red barchetta 10-30-2005 10:13 AM

i'm into DT's quieter stuff but i also think Hollow Years suck.

Quoted for Tr00f...

Lacrymosa 10-30-2005 10:15 AM

Ok :thumb:

But I wasn't talking about the Hollow Years cd version, but the live in budokan version SOLO. It's amazing, I've a vid of it :D

shamed-angel 10-30-2005 10:18 AM

The intro solo is nice... very tasteful. The impro at the beginning you're talking about right?

Lacrymosa 10-30-2005 10:19 AM

No. The main solo. But I like that one as well ;)

shamed-angel 10-30-2005 10:20 AM

Oh right. Isn't it the same as on the album? I quite like the solo, it's very latino. The song always seems to me to be the kind of radio friendly pig-shit they tended to write with DS.

Lacrymosa 10-30-2005 10:32 AM

hxxp://s39.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=05AR8XBMLFU5A39RRIC70SY5D9

That one ( Replace xx's with tt )

shamed-angel 10-30-2005 10:34 AM

I have the album... What's this? I have every version of it released?
Is it the LAB version? I'm listening to it now.

I thought it was the Live In Budokan version  Anyways, I ment this one :p

shamed-angel 10-30-2005 10:39 AM

I havent downloaded it.
I just wondered if it was the LAB version because I have it. It's an ok song I suppose, just not what I like about DT. It does the accesible radio friendly song pretty well. But that's not what DT is about at all is it?
Yeah you're right. The solo is nice.

Triangle 10-30-2005 10:54 AM

It's catchy and sweet but the Budokan solos owned the song flat out.

shamed-angel 10-30-2005 11:05 AM

True. And It's near to, if not at the bottom, of their repertoire. Doesn't make it a bad song though!

IvortheEngineDriver 10-30-2005 11:25 AM

I've said it before and I'll say it again...

Pertucci's backup vocals on ITNOG on the LAB DVD drive me nuts! I wish he didn't sing it...

I've been thinking...

I think Portnoy is a great writer...not as good as the Kevin Moore stuff from IaW and Awake, but I REALLY like his series with The Glass Prision/This Dying Soul/TROAE...those 3 songs are seriously the ones I listen to the most.

I wish Kevin Moore would come back and write some songs though :) AHhh, I can dream, right?

There will be more AA songs, because he's only done steps 1-7 of the AA steps. I think Petrucci is a way better backing vocalist than MP. You can only dream:p. I prefer Jp's writing on the I&W album.

DT Live at Hammersmith = wow

Saw them live at the Hammersmith Apollo on tuesday. They were rather good. Better than rather good. Bloody good. The best, maybe. They were better than they were in Paris, but that may only be because they had a longer set this time. Oh, sweet god they were good. Portnoy was doing this thing where he'd switch to playing one-handed and throw his other stick to his techie, then the techie'd throw it back... they did it 3 times, cause he kinda dropped it the first two times. Jordan looked pretty fearful, cause the path of the stick nearly intersected with his head  But when Portnoy caught it the third time he got possibly the biggest cheer of the night.

Just had to get that off my chest.

I was a little skeptical at first of them covering Dark Side of the Moon, but they did it with style and taste. And the guest vocalist they used had crazy skills.

What IS that red box that Rudess plays? I'm deeply intrigued. I wanna get the instructional keys video he's bringing out, cause I like to dabble in keys every now and again...

*breathes out* sorry if that was irrelevant or stupid in any amount of ways.

shamed-angel 10-30-2005 12:14 PM

The box is called a continuum. Portnoy commands the stage. Did JR continuum for the lap-steel bit at the beginning of Breathe?

LiquidTensionTheatre 10-30-2005 12:32 PM

I don't know DSOTM too well (speakers on PC broke like 3 days after I got the album :upset:) but if it's the part I'm thinking then he did. There was a lot of amazing continuum everywhere that night!

And yeah, Portnoy has to be the biggest attention seeker in the band :) he's great though.

shamed-angel 10-30-2005 01:04 PM

He's Dream Theater's Lars Ulrich. Without being a complete twat.

Jev 10-30-2005 01:25 PM
He's Dream Theater's Lars Ulrich. Without being a complete twat.
And without totally sucking at his instrument.

shamed-angel 10-30-2005 01:31 PM

My bad... forgot that bit...
The guy is a really nice guy. I met him in the noodlebar next to the Apollo during the 6DOIT tour, well I say met but I just said "hi!" and he smiled and said "Hey dude" back. He asked me to jam and we did. It was great. That's my encounter with him.
Ok that was a dream:upset:

Post your DT fantasies here!

I meet John Petrucci at a show, he asks me to jam, then we discover we have unbelievably similar tastes in music! Then he asks me to join the band as lead guitarist and singer. Then I write all the band's music and fire JR.

shamed-angel 10-30-2005 03:19 PM

NO. You suck. That would destroy the essence of DT :(. But It'd still be cool. Cause I'd say "He predicted that that would happen on an internet messageboard."
