Dr. Jake Destructo 04-17-2005 11:11 PM

I've heard

Echoes
Careful with that Axe Eugene
A Saucerful of Secrets
Us and Them
Once of these Days
Brain Damage
Set the Controls for the heart of the Sun

Meh, everything but Mademoiselle Nobs. Why do you ask?

Because the first time I saw it I had never before heard any of the tracks off Meddle before, and between the all around greatness of Meddle, and hearing Echoes, and One of These Days for the first time, by the end I was convinced the movie was my new god.

Rounder 04-18-2005 12:11 AM

Live at pompeii is just an amazing piece of art. I can never get enough of that film....Nick Mason looks like he is tripping soo hard on One of these days... :naughty:

rippa32 04-18-2005 12:37 AM

What would you guys say is better The Wall or Animals?

ATM 04-18-2005 12:38 AM

I prefer Animals.

pigonthewing82 04-18-2005 12:40 AM
What would you guys say is better The Wall or Animals?
Yeah Animals owns the Wall.

rippa32 04-18-2005 12:52 AM

Okay I might actually get that. Doesnt animals have a long song similair to the length of echoes?

ATM 04-18-2005 12:54 AM

Dogs is 17 minutes long, I think.

If you've never heard either album go with Animals for sure. The Wall is good but its my 2nd least favorite PF record right above the Final Cut, including non-waters stuff.
I can't listen to The Wall just by itself. I have to watch the movie. I don't know why.
I never saw The Wall all the way through, but what I saw was wicked strange :D

I liked when they put all of the English schoolchildren into a meat grinder

handicap$ 04-18-2005 06:53 PM

Your talking about the song Pink Floyd stole from k0rn right?

Riva 04-18-2005 09:49 PM

The Final Cut and Amused To Death are really quite similar to me. Anyone else noticed this. It might be because it (The Final Cut) was really Roger's baby.

Yeah many people concider The Final Cut as Waters first solo cd, as they don't concider The Division Bell and Momentary Lapse of Reason Pink Floyd.

Those foolish people. :)

Honestly though, lots of bands lose members and get new ones, but people still consider them the same band. It annoys me when people classify TDB and MLOR as not PF.

Especially TDB, Rick contributed a lot more to that album than he had for years.

Yeah, if you look at it like that then the Wall is not Pink Floyd, or if a member leaving makes the band fake then everything after Syd left is not Pink Floyd. Or you could say that all the stuff with Syd is not Pink Floyd. It just gets so complex its just easier, and less stupid, to call the band as long as it has most of the members playing in some way, Pink Floyd.

magicbus 04-19-2005 07:11 AM

I really like Childhood's End. Like a lot. The solo rules so much that I went out and learned it.

I never had a problem with the softer stuff, I just didnt like some of the songs.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 04-19-2005 10:21 AM

Floyd never had a frontman post Syd Barrett. (IMO)

Rothmans 04-19-2005 10:30 AM

Sorry to move off topic (this will probably be ignored anyway)

But has anyone noticed on the second disc on The Wall track 4 (i think it is called vera) is one if not the most beautiful music pink floyd ever created i really wished they kept that moment a bit longer than one minute

standard 04-19-2005 01:14 PM

YES!

My dad said (i'm 15 mind you), when that song came out.. err The Wall did.. He was dating a woman named Vera.

Very cool.

Also, didn't anyone know that The Wall is a never ending loop. Listen to In The Flesh I, disc one.. First song, REALLY loud. You here "We came in", now listen to the last song, disc two. Same music style.. not like in the flesh.. but it says "Isn't this where"

Very cool I thought.

Yea we've talked about that. It's pretty cool.

Same with Frances The Mute by The Mars Volta

unComfortablyNumb 04-19-2005 04:49 PM

Did Pink Floyd ever cover "House of the Rising Sun?" Because I downloaded a version of the song and it had Pink Floyd as the artist, but it doesn't really sound like them.

No it was mislabeled I mean there has been tons of sopposed "House of the Rising Sun" covers drifting around and all of them are the Animals cover. I use Soul Seek.

It's not the Animals cover because I have that song too. This one has distortion in it.

lunch998 04-19-2005 05:17 PM

Does anyone else feel like you're on acid when you listen to Intersteller Overdrive?

bennyl 04-19-2005 05:17 PM
Floyd never had a frontman post Syd Barrett. (IMO)
Despite Dave singing for most of there albums and doing the lead guitar (obviously) Roger soon became frontman. For instance, during the Wall tour, he hired another bassist so he could sing and act

Riva 04-19-2005 05:38 PM

Roger Waters could really be considered the frontman for Animals/The Wall/Final Cut. Those were his projects and he really drove them home.

Otherside 04-19-2005 05:39 PM
Yeah, that is really cool. I didn't know that happened on Frances The Mute as well though. Vera refers to the English World War II singer Vera Lynn, who was really loved by the armed forces, obviously mirroring one of the really repeated themes on the album, that of the military and the death of Pink's father, etc. It's a very beautiful song though, I agree.
Wow, Med, congrats big time mang :thumb:

Send me it. It could be The Ventures or even Hendrix.

Gittermonkey11 04-19-2005 07:32 PM

I'm really getting sick of people saying that Pink Floyd is the best music to listen to when you're stoned. They have no real respect for their music and assume that the wall is the best Floyd Album. I love Pink Floyd but I'm really to much of a fan of the wall.

skynyrd73 04-19-2005 07:57 PM

hey...i no this has had to of been talked about...u no how if you put Darkside to The Wizard of Oz..it goes with it...why do u think they did that...?

Thanks. It's definently not Pink Floyd, but I can't really tell who it is singing. At first it sounded like a home recording, but not so much when they start singing. I have like 4 versions of the song, and it's not any of those, so I couldn't tell you. :upset:
