I dont like the Lost Horizon cover. The Rhapsody one is the coolest.

Steerpike 01-21-2006 01:42 PM

The Rhapsody one is great, but the Primal Fear one is undisputably awesome as well.

Shattered_Future 01-21-2006 01:59 PM

I think the Tarot one is kinda lame...

Replace that with Reckoning Night. :thumb:

Stormwarrior? Who's that by?

With a cover like that, it's bound to be good. :amaze:

StormWarrior is my photobucket account name but a great speed metal band as well :p

Anyway, this album is called "Isle of Hyndra" and it's by Twisted Tower Dire (traditional heavy/power metal). I was so impressed by the cover artwork that I felt I had to buy the album and so did I. I think it's out of print now. For the record they're the first underground band I've ever got into. :)

Shattered_Future 01-21-2006 04:49 PM

Ah...good music then? Or does the cover art make it seem better than it really is? :p

Lord Tim 01-21-2006 08:01 PM

Man, I can't believe the ScaryMetalPooMonster Dungeon cover art is in there... my God, that was a terrible cover! :(

Steerpike 01-21-2006 08:34 PM

Stoic, I've really had time to absorb the Slough Feg album you sent me. I'd really love to do a spotlight on these guys, but I'd like to get a few more songs from some of their other albums before I put them on the list. Do you know where I can find them?

Shattered_Future 01-21-2006 10:03 PM

Speaking of Dungeon albums, I saw Resurrection in a cd store today, and I was thinking of picking it up. What are your thoughts on it?

I already have A Rise To Power, and quite like it.

Apocalyptic Raids 01-22-2006 12:01 AM

Resurrection is awesome. It's not as varied as A Rise To Power, but it's really catchy.

Lord Tim 01-22-2006 12:33 AM

Yeah, the song writing is a little simplistic but it's a good album all the same, and if you pick up the limited edition version you get 3 bonus tracks, a video clip, sticker, poster and bonus live CD from our first tour of Japan. Not bad! :)

JausmetalJ 01-22-2006 02:47 AM

/me goes and buys it.

I caught the album at screamers, but it was in a plastic slip.

Me want :(

Lord Tim 01-22-2006 05:48 AM

This is the LMP version too, BTW - completely different packaging to the Australian version.

JausmetalJ 01-22-2006 06:13 AM

Do you get anything in the Aust version?

And would I be able to buy it directly from you?

Apocalyptic Raids 01-22-2006 06:30 AM

Well I got the Aus re-release and it comes with a couple of bonus tracks but that's it.

JausmetalJ 01-22-2006 06:41 AM

It's pretty thrashy compared to the others, but I like it. The Japan Live album is worth it, and the album itself has I am Death on it, and Legend of a Huma, of course. And that makes any songwriting simplicity a moot point.
Waiting for an alibi?

Yeah, plus the LMP limited edition also comes with the acoustic/orchestral version of Severed Ties and a video clip for I Am Death with footage from the Australian Megadeth/Nightwish/Angra tours. :)

Stoic 01-22-2006 10:34 AM
Ah...good music then? Or does the cover art make it seem better than it really is? :p
It's pretty good actually and highly respected by people who dig this style. My only complaint is the vocals, I'd like to hear more "grind" in them.
Stoic, I've really had time to absorb the Slough Feg album you sent me. I'd really love to do a spotlight on these guys, but I'd like to get a few more songs from some of their other albums before I put them on the list. Do you know where I can find them?
Spotlight on Slough Feg?! Jesus, the whoring is really paying off! :D

If you have a little patience -its my exam period- I'll take care of it and send you a sampler sometime during the week. You cant imagine how glad I am \m/

Yea, that was the one they had.

Well, that's on my list next then...:)

Man those LMP guys love their bonus features, the bonuses on Galloglass' heavenseeker album are pretty good...except they speak german and some dvd players in my house try to put subtitles ove rthe top of other subtitles (stupid bloody things)

NP - severd ties (In my god-like opinion this song has one of the best solos Dungeon have ever done)

Deth 01-22-2006 07:01 PM

So, Manowar's Master Of The Wind is the greatest power metal ballad ever written.

Discuss.

EDIT: It probably wouldn't work on a Mac anyway :(
Sup thread?

Powermetal has always been one of my "secret shames", even though I'm not actually ashamed of it....:p

I really enjoy bands like Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius, Iced Earth, Dream Evil, Dragonforce, HammerFall, Kamelot, etc.
Iced Earth has some great rythms but i have not checked them out too much yet, I personally have never really liked power metal but i do find my self getting into them more and more because of Night Wish and Ayreon.

JausmetalJ 01-23-2006 05:25 AM

Good bands there swim, Love SA.

NEVER be ashamed of the metal that is Powerful.

Also, Lord Tim of Dungeon/LORD posts in this thread a bit :)

MetalOz 01-23-2006 06:47 AM

Anyone listen to Jag Panzer or Steel Prophet?

Ayreon isn't power metal..
So, Iced Earth's A question of heaven is the greatest power metal ballad ever written.

Yes.

Tyler 01-23-2006 02:23 PM

I've never heard more than one or two Iced Earth tracks. Which album is the best?

Lord Abortion 01-23-2006 02:31 PM

Night of the stormrider or Something wicked this way comes.

You should Get alive in Athens though, it's like a live best of, and remember to get the 3-disk version, not the 2 disk one.

i have a Jag Panzer album in mp3 form, Casting the Stones. pretty good album actually.

i find that i tend to listen to power metal when i'm driving now, it's so great.

shadow_stalker 01-23-2006 06:55 PM
Anyone listen to Jag Panzer or Steel Prophet?
nope whats it like?

Deth 01-23-2006 07:40 PM
Yes.
I wouldn't consider AQOH to be a ballad though. Certainly not a full blown one.

JausmetalJ 01-23-2006 07:43 PM

Jag Panzer are awesome, I've only heard a bunch of tracks, but definantly a sweet band.
