Lennon's Ric at the R&R Hall is the one given to him in Miami in 1964. It's the same as his first model 325 except the body width is a little thinner. The 1958 thru 1963 models had a 2 inch thick body. The 1964 slimmed the body to an inch and a half and added a fifth blending knob to better control the three pick-ups. Both were short scale, meaning the neck length was a little shorter than regular scale so the frets are little closer together.

I have a 1988 320 which is the same in specs, size, and design as the 1964 325. It is an awesome sounding instrument, great for pounding out rhyme with that twangy Ric sound. I wouldn't recommend it for lead or ballads, though, as a standard scale's longer strings are better suited for more melodious plucking.

i myself have always wanted a rickenbacker. Bass or guitar. But they run about 1.5-2 grand and up. So im basically screwed.

The Beatles are great for sure!
My girlfriend got me obsessed with the song I Am The Walrus,
amazing band they are,or,were.

I think the naked version better for the same reason
More polished.

GEORGEHARRISON --- Don't give up so easy. I always check eBay to keep up with how much guitars like that are going for. I've seen quite a few Rics there in need of a little repair or TLC being offered for a quite reasonable price. I've seen some 4001's go for under 600 dollars.

Granted I've had my 1967 500/1 bass for about thirty years now, and the 1988 Ric 320 for a while now as well -- and the price I payed for them seems obscenely low by today's market -- but back then the prices were comparable to the cost of living today. Back then gas was less than 26 cents a gallon so the several hundred I payed still seemed a king's ransom based on the hourly wage offered at the time. I had to save for them. If you really want it, save up. It might take a long time, but trust me -- It's WORTH it! :)

What is so great about the song Yesturday? Its so boring... probably one of their worst songs I think, that and Please Please Me. What boggles is how its gone in history as the most covered songs.

If you think an amazing vocal melody, simple but very well composed guitar and symphony is boring. I dont think you get the beatles if your looking for loud guitar songs from them.

Its not that... I like their softer songs too. I never doubted Pauls melodies, its just I don't feel much happening when I listen to Yesturday apart from the lyrics. Its just extremely boring...

And I've heard nearly every album... so dont mistake me for a Beatles noob.

Anyone know the CORRECT tuning for System Of A Down?

Please tell me it doesnt sound right when I play 'Aerials'

Maybe I'm crazy... but isn't this a Beatles thread? And maybe I'm just reaaally crazy... but I don't think Ringo or McCartney are in System of a Down. Unless... maybe... Serj is really John Lennon in disguise!

Go away. This is the wrong thread for it.

Fair enough. I love Yesterday, but everyone's entitled to their opinions. I don't get the hype behind the white album, personally.

Walrus Gumboot 06-01-2005 08:46 AM

Has anyone heard "And Your Bird Can Sing" off of the 2nd anthology? I love it, they must have been so stoned

Nice user title, Deus

robo2448 06-01-2005 05:59 PM

And Your Bird Can Sing is a great song

I love Yesterday but don't think that it's as good as it's cracked up to be. I'd still give it a 5/5 but just don't feel that it's one of their best songs. The singing is great by Paul though.

I have Abbey Road, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and the White Album. What would you guys recommend next?

I'm thinking MMT, Revolver, or Let It Be.

EDIT: Actually, I think I'm going to get all of them anyways, so which one first?

TalkingHead 06-03-2005 01:56 PM

<3 the beatles. My old man used to play them in the house since I was 3.

Can_of_SureFire 06-03-2005 02:21 PM

Get Revolver.

Woodstock 06-03-2005 02:40 PM

Revolver most definitely.

robo2448 06-03-2005 03:24 PM

Definitely Revolver, then MMT, then Let it Be. Then solo albums, then early stuff. You got a lot to buy. Anyone want to recommend me a McCartney solo album to buy? I think it fits in this thread. But is his solo career any good?

IAJP 06-03-2005 04:21 PM

I have a huge favour to ask someone here.

I'm a long time of the Beatles, but I don't have many of their albums (only around 3).
So, I ask of you this:
Is Let It Be really as bad as people say? I just downloaded "Across The Universe" and it's great, so could someone Yousendit some tracks off it to assure me into buying it, and to kill off any rumours of it's general crapness, any help would be greatly appreciated, as I am considering buying it tommorow.

(The songs I currently have off it are: Across The Universe (a great song), Let It Be (Which I don't really like that much), The Long And Winding Road (S'ok suppose), and Get Back (I like this, allthough it's a little bit eccentric) if that helps in any way).

ALSO, could anyone do me a huge favour of Uploading Norweigan Wood for me?
:) Any help greaaaaaaatly appreciated :D.

Aeaon 06-03-2005 04:27 PM

Let It Be is actually pretty good. Wasn't quite as good to some people because of Phil Spector's production.

But you can get the "naked" version if you want to. :thumb:

IAJP 06-03-2005 04:31 PM

I'm reading a review of it now, it looks interesting, I'd like to hear more of the Lennon songs off it, I prefer his songwriting style to Paul's, but they both had their quips.

Aeaon 06-03-2005 04:32 PM

Have you heard John Lennon's solo stuff?

IAJP 06-03-2005 04:38 PM

Yeah of course I have.
I think I might have a greatest hits in my house, it always occured to me that the Beatles were a unit though. They all (well, maybe not Ringo) had great songwriting talent, but when they did solo stuff it didn't click, they needed the backing of their band behind them to help it achieve greatness. Don't get me wrong, of all the Beatles solo work, Lennon's is the most superior, but if you understand, I prefer them as a unit.

Aeaon 06-03-2005 04:45 PM

I like a lot of John Lennon's stuff, but Paul's solo stuff isn't all that great to me.

I've reviewed it http://entertainmentforums.greatboard.com/viewtopic.php?t=195

I'll upload some tracks in a minute.

EDIT- Lennon's solo stuff is awesome. I've got Plastic Ono Band and Imagine.

The 1st and 3rd songs have brilliant vocal collaboration from John and Paul, the 2nd song is a George song, really great lyrics. The 3rd song is one of my favorites ever. I would highly recommend buying this album.

IAJP 06-03-2005 05:03 PM

Thanks a huge ammount :D.

EDIT: I just realised, I don't have Itunes :upset:
