I'm new here.. holy crap this thread is huge, anyway i just started listening to DT and i'm loving it. It's so different than all the other stuff out there it really is unique.
Are there any other bands out there in the same genre that come close to sounding like these guys?

RiceMonster 10-01-2005 12:33 PM
yeh i was dissappointed with Octavarium when I bought it. Apart from Octavarium itself i think the album is pretty lame, I really don't like the blatent Muse influenced songs cause they don't bring out the bands talents. I&W, SFAM and TOT are definatly my favourite three albums with Octavarium somewhere at the bottom.
I pretty much just like the first and last songs on Octavarium. Other than that, the album is useless.

Chu 10-01-2005 12:34 PM

You could just look for bands who play Progressive Metal, like Symphony X for example (I've never heard Symphony X so I don't know if they sound anything alike), I believe the band Circus Maximus sound very similar to Dream Theater (Although, the singer is very different to LaBrie)...

Thanks i'll keep them in mind...
I'm listening to Overture 1928... it is absolutley amazing! what other good instrumental songs do DT have?

I'm not too sure, he's returning the favour because I bought tickets to the last gig we went to. I think they were around £25

GenuineImitation 10-01-2005 05:00 PM

I want to go to a dream theater show. I missed them on Gigantour and I was really pissed. Considering theat Dream Theater, Nevermore, Symphony X and Megadeth are some of my favorite bands.

Lord Abortion 10-02-2005 01:51 AM

Meh, I really can't get into Awake much...

Apart from Space dye vest, which is probably one of my favourite DT songs...

Mmm... surrounded live... :inahappyplace:
I have to wait until they next tour here... Why the hell are they going to WOLVERHAMPTON!!??
Because they have poor knowledge of English cities.
Im just wondering, does everyone here agree that Octavarium is 'not as good' as their older albums?
Everytime I see someone complimenting Octavarium, I always wonder if they have listened to Images and Words.
octavarium is one of my favorite songs by them, along with panic attack and the root of all evil, and i've heard images and words

Lord Abortion 10-02-2005 01:59 PM

They must have a poor knowlege...

I want them to come to Newcastle!

but that's as likely as them releasing a grindcore album...

scenesfromatheater 10-02-2005 03:59 PM

...or as likely as Myung becoming a goth and joining a satanic black metal band as the vocalist?!?

yay, i cant wait for the gig at wolverhampton, 24 days to go (i think)
