Lost In Transformation. - 23%
Written by Danthrax_Nasty on October 27th, 2005 I was skeptical when buying this album, but I thought, "hey, I've heard lots of people (not just dumb****s) rave about this, and its only 10 bucks for two cds, so why not?",... needless to say I was shortly there after highly disappointed. I've had it for a while, and just don't like it for almost every reason possible. I judge albums, usually, only by what they offer, and on a completely individual basis, so I'm not holding this up to any set standard, just relating my thoughts on whats here: First off, a couple of items which I find discordant to my palette's preference: 1. The inlay layout: I can't even read the song titles for the disc which this release was for...what the ****?! Why would someone purposely choose to go with this,... probably cause they have ****ty tastes? Really though, what was the thinking going into this decision? I can only deduce it to the fact that this whole album seems to consistantly suck at every level so why not this too? 2. On the back of the booklet theres a quote, and a piece (the part that I REALLY dislike) from it reads as follows: "We charge tradition with being an excuse for idleness, unpersonality, and regression." First off, I'd like to charge pretention, stupidity, and bad taste as being an excuse for creating lameass Black Metal in the long runing tradition of disguising ostentation, and a simple minds irreverence with: depth, vision, and some greater meaning. You see, I infer this to be an attack on Metal, and its traditional elements which is inherently a retarded thing to do when you are a Metal band. Also, it is worth noting they seem to stick to this tradition of lame Black Metal pretty well, so I deduce their claim to a self righteous contradiction, and them being entirely full of **** (like all lame Black Metal so clearly is). Secondly, **** off (!), with out the traditional there would be no experimental, because the experimental is what became the traditional as far as Metal's concerned. To deny this would be an exercise in futility, but usefull in determining how full of ****, and uninformed one is. And besides, Traditional Metal eats this alive. 3. The cover, and entire layout are just lame as ****. It seems bound to an ambiguous, vague, psuedo intellectual artificiality that is about as boring to look at as it is uninspiring, cheap looking, and overall stale as most any new Euro Black Metal, in general...obvious exceptions apply. Also, the quote, "the origins of insane atheism" is another touch devoid of meaning, as its just a vague one liner with no implications, and no real attachment, or point (also requiring of little thought to process, don't want to burst their fan base's mental compacity, aye?). It seems like a cheap ploy at touching base on a universal concept (which by its self can be good), but lacks any point, and comes off as total bull****. And onto the music: Opening with an intro titled "end" (if you can decipher it behind that god awful texture)(wow, how inventive to call an intro "end", and totally untraditional too, that must have taken some deep thinking to come up with that one) your not quite sure what to expect, and then it hits... like a weeping infant whom you'd like to shake maleficiently, and with a beautiful air of sadism till trauma subdues them; the bands full sound. My initial sentiments are "god this sucks,... its just ****ing pathetic!". The drums exist in a level of boredom, and ill use. They just pump out noise in repetition, never really doing much out side of blasting, and keeping a generic beat. The guitar patterns are dreadfully pussified, and lacking in talent as they create no real mood. It tries to be aggressive in its approach (which is generally a good element), but in essence what gives them a unique sound is exactly what I hate, and detracts all aggression. Its like every other chord has a whammy bar wavering (if you will) of the chord where to me, it just sounds unprofessional, ****ty, and very boring (****ty, being the key word). There are time changes, and what not, but just laid out by someone with very little talent as nothing builds up, nothing climaxes, nothing bridges the changes, cheap hooks at best, ugh its pathetic at best. The song is incredibly chaotic, but only so out of lack of skill, and poor crafting abilities. And thats just song one (well 2 actually, but who counts the intro when the intro is just stupid "quiet noise"). Thats really how this whole album could be sumed up as the song writer(s?) have little talent, and just do the same thing over, and over with some little changes. Hell, the riffs in "Metamorphosis" are ****ing retarded, and are just ****ty Modern Metal riffs showcasing exactly what I hate about this. A build up to nothing, they create no palpable atmosphere because they are uselessly strewn together, in the end making for a pathetic song with no real focus, meaning, or vision. One thing I really hate also is the guitar tone,...what the ****? Its just ****ty, and ever present (well except for when they break to "quiet noise"). I hate it. Get a better producer, cause this sounds like modern Euro ****tyness run amuck. I guess this is just a product of Modern Metal's inability to actually come up with something decent, and new, so they just drowned you in simplistic, poorly constructed ambience, and sloppy **** riffs, then telling you its "intellectual", and "atmosphericly stimulating". I'd prefer traditional BM over this crap anyday simply because this is so devoid of melodic structure, and creates no real atmosphere in my opinion. This is one of the worst aspects (aside from the riffs) that just seems to allude to poor crafting skills at fundamental levels. I also hate the pointless usage of silence, and quiet noise,... all it does basically is bore you, and cause the album to have a longer run time. If this is supposed to blend ambient music, industrial and BM, I'll I have to say is "stop it!". Its been done many times over, by much more competant musicians, and doesnt need any more bad ideas tossed in it: the over flowing urinal of tepid, luke warm unoriginality. Its a **** storm on the mind, and offers little to nothing to me. Vocals are pretty weak too, not that utterly ****ty, but not even decent really. They vary abit, from typical BM voices, to DM like backing growls, and some pussified mid-range (I dont know what to even call it) "I'm such a totured artist" gayness. Also, layoff the goddamn mic distortion, it just sounds like unintelligible bull****. The clean vocals on "Inner Mental Cage" arent too bad I guess, I just hate how they give off that "Middle Eastern" vibe, cause that just something I cant stand myself. Our Blessed Frozen Cells has a cool (well cool as can be) ending riff (even if the drums behind it try to hinder its coolness, with their ill use, and idustrial gayness (I hate industrial music!)) with a decent lead, rather poorly crafted, and showing of little talent, but its decent, or atleast a highlight of this album. Its a generic sounding Heavy Metal pattern, done with a meloncholic edge of pretentiousness in its backing chords, but not to shabby. Its just this riff does nothing for the song, because before it is like a minute and a half of useless silence, and the beginning of the song sucks by its self anyway. This is the only riff I even liked off this album. I dont think anymore needs be said, as this album just repeats its self endlessly (and in a bad way, see Darkthrone, or WASP on how to repeat yourself in a good way if you need clarification), and has few, to no real "good" qualities, as I see it. I wouldnt recommend this at all, I hate it... it really sums up a strong reason I hate alot of Modern Metal (but not all). Also, the song title "Procession Of The Dead Clowns" is probably one of the worst title I've ever seen anyone serious about their work, and with fans who take them seriously, ever use... its just pathetic (maybe an attempt to gain some cred (sic) with some ICP fans?). I hate this album, and its made me hate this band. I just dont understand how people like this ****... probably never will, but then again I seem to hate alot of **** the majority raves about. **** the majority, they eat pig **** by the mouthfull, and then turn to you and tell you its excellent filet mignon. And **** Blut aus(uck) Nord, they are the pig **** people are eating.
Harsh :( |
