Wow. I just saw Eric Burdon over at the B.B. King Bar and Grill, and it was incredible. Who knew the Animals were that good? Burdon's voice still sounds great, almost as good as it did 40 years ago. Just he wasn't able to hit afew high notes, but still, he was amazing. The guitarist and keyboardist apparently held back on the recordings, for today they took long and very immperssive solo's. Even the drummer had one 12 minute solo. It may have been the best show I've seen. Who knew?
I highly doubt any of the other band members were original.

rockinbass17 08-21-2005 09:26 PM

Well, they were still really, really good, nevertheless. And I'm still surprised Burdon was amazing at singing.

I would say stfu, but that would be spamming

To give this post relevance, are there any other guitarist that find that George Harrison managed to find the most difficult-to-play chords for his songs? I can always count on George for this sort of exercise

I know abit about Jam Rock but I relize some of you guys know alot more than me about it so tell me if I get anything wrong or if you want me to add something just let me know. (Badmoon and JPJ)

Jam Rock:
This diverse genre is made of extended Jams ranging from everything from Blues Rock to Bluegrass to even Soul Jazz. Often credited as the Grateful Dead's creation this genre remained a 2 band genre (Grateful Dead and Allman Brothers Band) until the late 80's and early 90's when bands like Spin Docter, Blues Traveler and Widespread Panic began to show this genre's 2nd coming but it would be Phish the towered over them all selling more tickits than records gaining massive popularity with their unearthly instrumental talent and musical diversity. This genre remains the closest thing to Classic Rock that we have today.

Sounds alright to me, except I might say something about how Jam Rock is sort of the anti-genre, in the sense that can incorporate almost anything from anywhere around the world (latin, blues, folk, eastern) and still be "jam rock"
You also spelt ticket "tickit" which may just be a Texan e-accent :p

You have to mention improvisation in there. You alluded to it but it's the key in Jam Rock.

Even though I'm a Southern boy born and raised I'm about as redneck as a tree. I already mentioned it's diversity anyway.

This highly diverse genre is made of extended Jams and improvisations ranging from everything from Blues Rock to Bluegrass to even Soul Jazz. *thinks*

You may want to add that Jam Bands sometimes do over 100 shows a year, and are a staple at music festivals. I read in Bass Guitar (article about SCI bassist) that SCI did over 300 in '04. Not necessary be any means, but just something else to throw in.

I always thought the Allman Brothers band was considered southern rock..

They are but they're also one of the pioneers of Jam Rock aswell. Haven't you ever "Mountain Jam"? If you haveen't got Eat a Peach yet download it now!!!

I would if I could, but my computer doesn't have a sound card at the moment :upset: You may or may not have noticed that I'm pretty much the only person on here that doesn't request uploads as a result. :upset: :upset:

Whaaat?

Glam Rock - David Bowie, New York Dolls, T. Rex, Mott the Hoople

How the hell are Whitesnake and Motley Crue glam rock?

PinkFreud 08-22-2005 12:24 AM

i can see motley crue as a stretch but really not whitesnake.

Leper 08-22-2005 12:25 AM

Rolling Stones should have been recommended in Blues Rock. Oh well.

BludgeonySteve 08-22-2005 12:27 AM

Were they really bluesey? If anything they were more country and folk

edit: I did think that some of Riva's examples for rock were off and included bands that shouldn't have been included in thre place of others. But I'm not going to say anything. That's a great thread.

Leper 08-22-2005 12:31 AM
Were they really bluesey? If anything they were more country and folk
Hmm, I've kind of thought that at times too actually. Satisfaction is definitely Bluesy..They're kind of hard to classify though. I just thought they were generally accepted as a Blues-influenced rock band.

clown_phobia 08-22-2005 01:41 AM

Can someone please upload Let it be Naked? My copy won't import! Probably cause of the copy protection

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 08-22-2005 01:50 AM

Sorry Clown, can't help you there. :-/

Has anyone noticed how great the Let it Be.....Naked version of "Across the Universe" kicks the **** out of the original? It is AMAZING one of my favorite Beatles songs but I never see anyone ever talk about it.

clown_phobia 08-22-2005 02:02 AM

I really like the song, I can play it on guitar. Ill have a good listen to it once I can find someone to upload it. I requested it in A&I as well

I'd say they had quite a bit of blues influence, and some blues songs, but nothing too bluesy.

np: Southern Man, to cleverly disguise a total bump.

Broken Arrow 08-22-2005 08:37 AM

The Rolling Stones started as a blues group but as they got bigger they definetly moved to other genres but also otfen returned to blues over their career.

Yea, me and magicbus mentioned that.

He also put The Who as blues rock, which I would say is a no.

rockinbass17 08-22-2005 10:47 AM

I'd say more R&B and soul influenced rock.

yeah, I love that version. It's a bit more powerful without all of the frills, really intense and powerful. I think I wrote a book on it in the Beatles thread once

MBS 08-22-2005 01:04 PM

I guess we're allowed to rename this thread....

So, any ideas on what we should rename it?

Maybe the "R&M Spam thread (with the occasional talk about Classic Rock)"?

ideas?
