Well I'm not trying to start an argument...but each of the members Led Zeppelin were great at their respective instruments. Not the best, but you can't say any of them aren't great. I don't think they were the "best" band ever, but they are definitely a good band (in my opinion).
I agree with you 100%. They're great, but there's a bunch of other classic rock bands than them I'd rather listen to.

Illmatic 04-29-2005 05:28 PM

I like the Stones a lot
"Jimmy Page is the best guitarist ever, John Bonham is the best drummer ever, Robert Plant is the best vocalist ever, and John Paul Jones was a great bassist"
Poor JPJ. He is always underrated and overshadowed. None of them are the best ever at what they did, but JPJ is imho the consummate musician in led zeppelin, considering that he contributed so brilliantly on bass, mandolin, and organ.

Them crazy Who fans.

I also used ot think that JPJ was underrated because he was the quiet one and the bassist. He is probably one of the more underrated musicians, but if you go to certain bass forums, he is kind of over rated. I have trouble finding where I stand on this issue. There seems to be a middle ground but I just can't find it.:upset:

lunch998 04-29-2005 05:31 PM

I didn't say the Stones were bad, just that The Who are amazing.
:amaze:
I envy you. How is it? I was thinking about getting Disraeli Gears instead.
I actually haven't listened to it yet, but I've heard most of the songs already so I have a good idea of how great it is (very). I've got Disraeli Gears and The Best of Cream on vinyl..but those are the only ones I have.

What other albums does Cream have that's worth getting? They had a lot of Cream records there, but most of them just seemed to be Best of type ones.

My feeling is he is overrated just as a bass player, but as an all-around musician he is underrated.

TheDMV 04-29-2005 05:34 PM

Yeah, the Stones are good, but some of their songs just aren't as good. From what I've heard on the radio, they seem inconsistent ot my musicl tastes. I prefer the who, especially because of Entwhistle, and Moon. Really all of them for that matter. They had such contrating personalities but it didn't stop them from making AMAZING music.

Fresh Cream definitely, then maybe Goodbye or Live Cream Volumes 1/2. The big three are Fresh Cream, Disraeli Gears, and Wheels of Fire.

yeah, that's kind of what I was trying to get across.

I believe they only released two other studio albums. Their first, Fresh Cream, and their last, Goodbye.

Thanks. I'm not sure if I saw Fresh Cream there...but they had a lot of albums with the word Cream in it so I'm not sure.

I agree with what JPJ said about JPJ (this is getting confusing) being underrated as an all around musician. I still love his bass playing though. He's one of my favourite bassists.

TheDMV 04-29-2005 05:38 PM

Where are you getting these cheap vinyls?

Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed, Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out, Exile on Main St. = practically perfect albums

I usually go to antique stores or traveling record shows for them. I also seem to find a lot of rare albums on CD there.

I feel like posting something...

jpj 04-29-2005 05:43 PM

At CD Warehouse (used CD store, I think it's a national chain) they had a bunch of cool vinyl's for like $6.

Tommy, Who's Next, Quadrophenia, Live at Leeds, The Who Sings My Generation, The Who Sell Out.

thickasabrick 04-29-2005 05:45 PM

We've got a store called Vintage Vinyl here...it's a music store (tons of vinyl, cd's, cassettes, also bandshirts and basically anything relating to music) and it's also a headshop (anything to do with weed).

I spend most of my Saturdays there, for some reason laws don't really exist in there. The employees are usually all smoking weed.

But I'm saying for my tastes. I only like some songs. Unless of course most of there songs sound like Sympathy for the Devil, Beast of Burden, and Satisfaction. (My favorites)

I'm just trying to stick up for the Stones. They tend to get a bad rap.
I'm just trying to stick up for the Stones. They tend to get a bad rap.
Bad rap from who? I usually hear good things about them, and I think everyone at least respects them in here.

Woodstock 04-29-2005 05:48 PM

These songs are off Super Session by a "group" consisting of Mike Bloomfield, Al Kooper, and Stephen Stills; Bloomfield-Kooper-Stills.

This is the opening song, Albert's Shuffle. It's the definition of a blues song.

^I wouldn't say the Stones get a bad rep at all.

lunch998 04-29-2005 05:49 PM

My dad was telling me about them last night.

Sorry, maybe I could send it to you over AIM sometime.

I'm uploading another song from the album. It's more of a funky, groovy rock song.

That song sounds exactly like something I've already heard. Bass, guitar and all. I think it's The Sky is Crying but I'm not sure. It'll come to me eventually.
