Except for turn the page that they didn't write, all the others are greats. Except for outlaw torn, to which I'm indifferent.
yeah but you got to admit, their version of turn the page is ALOT better than the original. yes the original was good, but their is so much greater. and i love outlaw torn, speshully live

fatbandit 11-16-2005 09:47 AM

No, Fuel is teh suck.

Don't get me wrong, I love their post Black Album stuff, and sure, some of their best songs are after it (Where The Wild Things Are and Hero of the Day are favourites at the moment), but also, a lot of their worst songs too.

Load and ReLoad could have been condensed into one quite amazing album IMO, there was a lot of filler.

Hmm, It's ok, I used to really like it, gone off it now though, it's pretty average.

metalmilitia101 11-16-2005 09:57 AM

yeah i'd say its more average. definately not as top notch as most of their songs
albeit he doubtlessly was not the best metal guitarist of all time, he is my absolute favorite, imo best metal guitarist of all time, just because i like his stuff. yeah when the greats play a solo i can tell its better than kirk, but he just utterly transfixes me. his solos inspire me and awe me more than anyone else's. i can really put my whole soul into them and just feel the music almost.

and to what the kiddo said up there, they have really really awesome music both on the black album and after it. yes, it was different, however, metallica covers a wide range and if you don't like some of it it doesn't mean it's not good. i think some of their best songs were written black and post black, such as turn the page, fuel, outlaw torn, my friend of misery, of wolf and man, memory remains, sad but true, don't tread on me, god i could go on forever :thumb:
What is it about Kirks solos that transfix you?

metalmilitia101 11-16-2005 10:21 AM
What is it about Kirks solos that transfix you?
its not exactly the skill or technique, because you can find that anywhere, but i think that his solos tie in with the rythm so well and they are just so overwhelmingly uplifting

Jev 11-16-2005 10:44 AM

1983 eh?
Bad quality then?

Father_Jack 11-16-2005 10:48 AM
1983 eh?

Most probabily. I'm just downloading it now, if the first tracks sucks that I'm not downloading the rest. Especially seen as the track list aint that great anyway (well its '83 so only 2 albums)

EDIT: Yeah the quality really sucks balls. The drums sound pretty aweful. I'm just gunna download the Cliff Bass solo though.

Jev 11-16-2005 10:51 AM

Oh God, KIRK NO!
The RTL solo is horrible.
edit-8000th post, just because I love you all

From that show?

Oh well I'm glad I didn't download it then. The bass solo wasn't great because of the sound quality, could barely hear anything.

Jev 11-16-2005 10:55 AM

yeah, It's horrible. I'm glad he learnt to play it properly. The singing sucks as well.

Sadbutrue16 11-16-2005 11:21 AM
yeah yeah yeah!! well, kinda :upset: we used to have an awesome rock station and they would have a half an hour mandatory metallica from 9 - 930. then the station closed, and another station took it up. however, they soon shortened it to about only 5 songs, and now its just called mandatory metal, runs from 9 - midnight, and starts with a metallica song, and usually random metallica songs are interspersed. i miss my long mandatory metallica though
my station in sacremento has used to have Mandatory Metallica at 9 every night..it pwned but when dimebag died they played Priority Pantera...which is good but metallica is better... now they fuked it all up by making it Demandatory...

Jev 11-16-2005 11:29 AM

Mandatory metal 9-12?
I wouldn't be complaining.

Sadbutrue16 11-16-2005 11:34 AM

hmm worst metallica song has to be The Things That Should Not Be or Aint my B!tch( jsut cnat get into this one)

Jev 11-16-2005 11:38 AM

TTTSNB is pretty good. I used to like Ain't My Bitch but now I can't stand it.

Sadbutrue16 11-16-2005 11:40 AM

TTTSNB is a good song..deffinatly metal but it just doesnt go with the rest of that album.

Doctor Night 11-16-2005 11:59 AM
TTTSNB is a good song..deffinatly metal but it just doesnt go with the rest of that album.
Yeh it does.
Yeh it does.
Not really, it has a weird structure and isnt as fast as all the others. It can be likened to Orion in some ways. Killer song either way.

EDIT: N.P. - Metallica - The Thing That Should Not Be

Jev 11-16-2005 12:54 PM

I love playing the solo for it, so easy.

Doctor Night 11-16-2005 12:56 PM

LoL Did anyone ask?

I'm gonna download the songs I want from that show. But I have to say
pretty much every Metallica performance from that era sounds exactly the same....Horrible!
hmm worst metallica song has to be The Things That Should Not Be or Aint my B!tch( jsut cnat get into this one)
Of all the years of listening to Metallica, I could never get into "The Thing That Should not Be" either. I don't know what it is about it, I would always skip the song on Master of Puppets album, the solo is great though but I couldn't get into it like most other people.

Stormrider 11-16-2005 02:22 PM

The thing that should not be is a an ok song IMO. I skip most of the time when I listen to MOP though.

And I dont agree with the Black Album being with one of their best albums...tha album gets boring to me after one listen about....except for a few songs.

Britton 11-16-2005 02:44 PM

Oh God does the Black Album get annoying!

I usually TTTSNB too.

RTL is my favorite album
