JCS: Higher

lowsound: Word. Especially when it's an analysis of the Iliad. We had several different topics, but most of them would be very broad if you put any effort in making them anything more than exactly what the topic was about. The role of women in The Iliad, the conflict between two or more forces in the epic, the heroic code; any of those essays would be practically pointless at 500 words. Anyway, I don't think I'll be docked too many points. Keep guessing.

And lowsound wins! I think it was 1770 or so, but close enough. JCS gets a consolation prize for being the only other person that tried.

Anyway, I'll be the first person to admit that I need to work on being more concise. Case and point: this post. :upset:

Those look like the cookies that my roommates steals from his work, soooooo good. I can usually hit the word limits, but I just don't like really low ones.

What's your approach to looping? Like, how do you keep your songs from sounding the same, even though they've all gotta use the same standard approach (i.e. play something, loop it, playing on top, loop that, etc.)?

if you are going to record it, record the whole song on the looper before you plug it into your computer. as far as improvising, i use jazz charts or funk charts, its really hard to improvise something thats oging to sound good over and over and over and over and over again

Yes, that is possible. I would hate to be lactose intolerant, I eat a lot of mil products.

Ah. Well, I meant for general song structuring.
im not sure i know what you mean. like intro A A B A ?
Well, like, I guess what I mean is, how do you keep your looping from becoming predictable?

That is to say... following a very obvious path.

Starting off with a bassline and looping that, and then throwing some chords on top of that, and then some effects to create some extra noise, and then a melody in the higher register, etc.

I dunno. You probably haven't listened to much/any of my music, but it's all pretty melodic and 'new age'-ish and when trying to translate that to a looper for a live environment, a lot of it comes out sounding the same. Not that the notes or anything are the same, but the thought process becomes very similar.

Try mixing it up a bit, try starting with chords, then moving to a melody, then add bass ect. Don't start out the same way each time and you will do something different.

lowsound

Left Shoe 10-08-2006 09:03 PM

know the whole song in your head part by part before you start playing it. if you are going to do a live setting, record a song without melody maybe for the first 4 times through, then record two with emlody. then on the first four (in the live setting) play the melody, and the two times after that solo

Mm. That's solid advice. Thank you. :)

I'm looking to step away from my material being exclusively looped. I've been working really hard to try and write some proper solo tunes, too.
