Nothing will ever top the menacing opening of The Grudge and the eerie end of Faaip De Oiad.
Very nicely said. I love the original tracklisting, but I still want to try this thing.

Werny 03-17-2005 12:11 AM

I find Holy Gift at least 100 times better, but the original is still the best album ever. I *love* the way it ends with Disposition, and I also love the positioning of The Patient. Trust me, when I listen to The Patient, I think of it as a near-last song, because of the vocal styles and slow riffs. Very climatic. I don't like The Patient as the third song, it doesn't fit at all.

Oh, and that person who posted before saying that Tool are black metal... those mushrooms are really gettin' to ya...

Pearl Jam's new album comes out in May... let's hope that Tool can beat that...

Kage 03-17-2005 08:24 AM
Pearl Jam's new album comes out in May... let's hope that Tool can beat that...
I find that pretty unlikely. If they were planning a May or earlier release, there would have been some news on it already, an annoucnment of some sort that it's almost finished and even a definite date. So far we have none of the above. (at least to my knowledge)

I'm still hoping for a mid-summer release, though. I'd say maybe they're planning a surprise release, but I doubt a record company would agree to that.

I gave Lateralus its regular 4 listens today...**** that cd is just so **** good. How can anyone say linkin park owns Tool.. I just can't get over that...

Edit: I really hate how the word damn is beeped out..

Dude3 03-17-2005 09:04 PM

JUst watched the Parabola video. Its INSANE. Definately their best.
I have a question though. Tool makes a lot of references to the whole "THIRD EYE" thing in their music. What is the whole philosophy(if that's what you want to call it) behind the Third Eye thing?

Darkness 03-17-2005 09:10 PM

The Third Eye or "brow chakra" is located about 1.5 cm above your nose. Supposidly it holds wisdom or something like that and its the best place to look at when trying to view someones aura... someone else can explain this way better then me...

Dr. Jake Destructo 03-17-2005 09:14 PM

Third Eye is also a reference to Bill Hicks' comedy acts as well. "Squeegying my third eye." He's the dude in the cartoon doctor in the insert of Ænima.

Darkness 03-17-2005 09:15 PM

Yeah but Bill didn't make it up.

Dr. Jake Destructo 03-17-2005 09:22 PM

I know, but in that million page Tool FAQ, they mention that they got the idea for the song from Hicks.

The JoZ 03-17-2005 09:32 PM

Can someone give me the order to the Holy Gift thing again?

Dude3 03-17-2005 09:38 PM
Can someone give me the order to the Holy Gift thing again?
Parabol
Parabola
Schism
Ticks and Leeches
Mantra
Lateralus
Faaip de Oiad
The Grudge
Triad
Eon Blue Apocalypse
Disposition
Reflection
The Patient

Huber 03-17-2005 09:39 PM

That's the order where they all go into eachother perfectly? I've been meaning to try that....

Kage 03-17-2005 09:40 PM

I was going to do it today but of course I didn't get around to it.

Huber 03-17-2005 09:49 PM

I'm ripping it right now, and I'm gunna do it....

Kage 03-17-2005 09:53 PM

woo! I'll get around to it one day...

Dr. Jake Destructo 03-17-2005 09:54 PM

It doesn't work. Reflection has to be before Triad.

Huber 03-17-2005 09:58 PM

It isn't working well anyways

Mantra went into Lateralus very smoothly, and Faaip went into The Grudge cleanly, and Reflection went into The Patient kinda smoothly. Otherwise the transitions weren't to smooth.

Edit: and obviously Parabol went into Parabola.

Dr. Jake Destructo 03-17-2005 10:02 PM

Wait till the end. It gets downright pointless. :p

Kage 03-17-2005 10:02 PM

Hmm... I think it may be about more than the transitions. It has to do with the development and feel of the overall album more than the transitions.

Huber 03-17-2005 10:02 PM

Until the end?

Huber 03-17-2005 10:03 PM
Hmm... I think it may be about more than the transitions. It has to do with the development and feel of the overall album more than the transitions.
Oh, I thought the transitions were supposed to be perfect or something. Well, I'll sit here and see how this version of the album feels....

Kage 03-17-2005 10:04 PM

I think it's reading too far into it anyway. I doubt they actually did it on purpose, but I guess anything is possible.

Huber 03-17-2005 10:08 PM

Parabol/Parabola are definetly bar none better opening tracks than The Grudge.

Edit: The first notes of Schism made me shiver a bit after hearing Parabola. You know, that whole, musical G-Spot thing. When something happens that's really just, right? Yeah, that kinda shiver.

There, fixed. And remember:
6,7,5,8,4,9,13,1,12,2,11,3,10

Darkness 03-17-2005 10:30 PM

What about Schism into Ticks? I like that, as Schism ends with some double bass then Ticks intros with double bass..

mudvayne420 03-17-2005 11:49 PM

Hey Darkness,
that one post you put up where that guy emailed you with a diff. order, i can see what he's sayin. but, he forgot to put ticks and leeches into the mix, because you know how he says " my fruit is bruised and borrow you thieving bastards you have turned my blood cold and bitter feed my compasion black and blue" he basically sayin that he's tired and worked out from this album then he says " hope this is what you wanted, hope this is what you had in mind, cause this is what your getting." he says that hopefully this is what we wanted and yes we wanted and loved it, sucking him dry. in which the order for that guys theory would be 8,9,2,1,3,6,7,10,11,12,4,5,13.
YES, eon blue apocalypse is before the grudge because if you listen to the end feedback of the bass in lateralus REALLY REALLY carefully it sounds like the beginning to EBA.

Huber 03-17-2005 11:53 PM
What about Schism into Ticks? I like that, as Schism ends with some double bass then Ticks intros with double bass..
That was another G-Spot. But then again, I love Ticks and Leeches, and it's always a musical G-Spot.

Huber 03-17-2005 11:55 PM

Okay, do I have the right alternate order? Or is there multiple theories on this and I just wasted the last 2 hours of my life?

mudvayne420 03-18-2005 12:05 AM

there are many theories but, IMO the one that dude found out would probably be the closest i've seen. it goes together greatly with the mood of the music and the lyrics.

ThePatient 03-18-2005 12:16 AM

I think the whole thing is just thinking way too much into it. But whatever floats your boat.

mudvayne420 03-18-2005 12:20 AM

MAybe thats what maynard wanted you to think(sarcastically said)
I just saw a live bootleg of The Patient. It was one of the best boolegs I have ever seen. One problem = some dumbass standing next to the camra man won't shut the hell up and you can clearly hear him saying:
"LINKIN PARK IS GANNA FUCKIN OWN THESE GUYS"
"NOTICE HOW THE BASSIST HASN'T TURNED AROUND ONCE? TURN AROUND FAG!!"
I'm sorry.. I had to express my anger for this.
That is such a great video. Except for that tit shouting that crap. "I must keep reminding myself of this." Part is so good. Musicgasm. Adam turns around and looks at Maynard and is just like, "nice".

Adam Jones is GOD 03-18-2005 05:35 AM

For those trying the 'holy order', if you play each track back to back in Winamp or similar program, it loses its desired effect. Its been said that the album was made in such a way that if played off anythig but the original it loses something.(possibly a salt moment there).

But I do know the only way to make it work is to somewho mix them so that the tracks run seamlessly into one another. Try it out on a multi track program.

(Note:I have never tried this before, but i've heard from those who have that this works best)

Kage 03-18-2005 08:23 AM

I guess iTunes would be a good program to use, because you can get the tracks to fade into one another pretty well. Sometimes it actually ruins it because the song fades out too quickly and the transition is shattered, but it seems like it would work nicely for this.

I want to see that Patient video, so far no luck with that musictelevision sucks site :\
