That write-up on Johnny Cash was cool.
I actually don't think Taurus sounds much like Stairway, so I wouldn't argue that Page stole it.
I think it's more of the mood and style than what is actually played. To me, it sounds similar and doesn't at all at the same time.

Whether stolen or not, people have a tendency to go too hard on Page. Keep in mind, all blues artists steal from older work. unfortunuatley, Zeppelin is so popular, they seem like the only ones to the people who like a few songs, and have heard stories about the work they have pirated.

I can't stop listening to Grand Funk Railroad. The album I have just might be in my top 10 of all time, it's that fun to listen too. I think I may do a thread on them tonight.

Heh, my gf says she's starting to get into them.

NP: Bob Dylan - Like a Rolling Stone off of the Bootleg Series Vol 4: 1966...I'm thinking of reviewing that album

ATM 08-13-2005 04:25 PM

Trust me, Ray. You'd like it.

If my girlfriend leaves me hanging tonight, then ill make a thread :-/

I've been meaning to get into GFR for a while, what type of music do they play?

np: For What It's Worth

ATM 08-13-2005 04:54 PM

They do amazing hard rock, with high energy riffs, vocal harmonies, and great solos.

I just bought an album called "Driving Guitars" by the Ventures. 29 songs, 70 plus minutes, for five whole bucks. The Ventures fargin' rule. While their original stuff is awesome, the covers are classic too.

Also, I picked up a CSN dvd! Called "Long Time Coming". I couldn't believe it, I was so happy. It's got a bunch of live clips. David Crosby is a really cool guy, despite all the..weirdness. Highlights include a clip of them with Neil Young, playing the ending of "Down by the River". It cuts in just in time to hear all of them singing together in harmony, and Crosby looks as happy as a clam. Also, there's a version of "Find the Cost of Freedom", done in different harmony then the album version. They could rework that song in so many ways. The newest performance on the Dvd, though, is from the late eighties, I think. Plus, there's lost footage of them doing "Marrakesh Express" at Woodstock.

I haven't heard a lot of them. I've heard I'm Your Captain which is good apart from the shameless 4 minutes or so of crap at the end.

Speaking of Woodstock.......This Monday will be the 36th aniversery of it. I will wear my new Woodstock shirt for 3 days starting Monday.

Edit: This also means I will take back my old Woodstock avatar.

BludgeonySteve 08-13-2005 09:45 PM

Yay for giant music festivals in general! Huzzah!

jpj 08-13-2005 10:49 PM

Just got back from Steve Miller :D Awesome show! He played a bunch of blues with George Thorogood in the middle of the show, and of course all radio hits you could ask for. Joseph Wooten (Victor Wooten's brother) was the keyboardist and during Fly Like an Eagle he rapped, it was surprisingly very cool.

During the blues part of the show with George they played a song called Love Ramba, and it sounded almost exactly like Black Magic Woman. They played Stranger Blues by Elmore James which has the same riff as Ray Charles'" What'd I Say", I thought that was interesting.

Who played at Woodstock besides Jimi? My pappy constantly talks about how awesome it was, even though he was only there for one day, too much mud apparently.

Where'd you see it at, Eric?

Hey, everyone. I've been away for quite a long time working and then I had vacation. Glad to be back, though.

I got an awesome Grateful Dead shirt a week or two ago.

And yes, Ten Years After are very underated.

You saw Steve Miller? Lucky, lucky, lucky.

DMV, nice avatar. I also got a Dead shirt recently, but it's a plain one that just has the skeleton on the front.

Illmatic 08-14-2005 01:23 PM

The only Ten Years After song I've heard is "I'd Love To Change The World", but I like that song. Alvin Lee's guitar solo in it is one of my personal favorites.

Lunch 08-14-2005 01:25 PM

I have four of their albums and they are all very good. Alvin Lee is an excellent guitarist.

Who are Ten years After, Enlighten me

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 08-14-2005 01:58 PM

I don't even have a 10 Years After album. I download a few songs by them a couple of months ago (from Lunch) and they expired in a week. Only when I download from Lunch I have that problem. "I'm Going Home" was one of the best proformances from Woodstock. I'd really like to hear an album. :)

I shoudl wear my woodstock shirt too. It is got knows how old, my hippie aunt gave it to me in 6th grade. It has 9 (3x3) dove/guitar logos with the colors fading from red to purple (and everything in between) and "Woodstock Music Festival" in yellow at the bottom. It is also threadbare, a few sizes too big and is sporting more than one hole. And I really would wear it Monday through wednesday, but I have a college interview at Middlebury on Tuesday(where I believe about 27% get accepted) and I don't think that would go over so well

I'm totally wearing it on Monday and Wednesday though

Lunch 08-14-2005 04:43 PM

Makes me wish I had a Woodstock shirt.
