Wiki tells me that Albany is 28% black and Pittsburgh is 27% black. So yeah, pretty close. It doesn't say anything about how much better Pittsburgh is though.

I need to get out more. I think my roommate, who is from Rochester, is going home this weekend, I might try to tag along. If not, I'll end up at a different college for at least one night, which is better than staying here again. I am going to Philadelphia for the week before Christmas though, which is sweet, and to this bum**** nowhere place during spring break.

Manorialism is what I was referring to, and the color of the slaves makes no difference seeing as serfs suffered the same treatment, if not worse, as black slaves in early America.

My political science professor once said that the greatest cause of conflict within societies comes from one generation not understanding the problems of those before them, which is a less cliche way of saying "those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it." And then changes in commerce and the rise of a merchant middle class completely changed the class structure. This still doesn't change that even if my parents were slaves, I'm white and whites won't discriminate against me based on my skin color, and would have to rely on less noticeable factors like class to pass judgment, while people of color will have a much harder time assimilating into or working around white society.

The one unintended consequence the civil rights movement is that after big issues got out of the way it lost steam fighting poverty, and now white people are convinced that racism and inequality are dead.
