Jesus those guys were bitter.
|
Yeah, but Waters is bitter in a more eloquent way.
|
Yeah, but Waters is bitter in a more eloquent way.
 At least it seems that most of the bitterness has faded away over time. Life's too short to hold grudges forever. |
Roger is probably a better lyrics writer, but I think David can hold his own.
|
Shit yeah, Roger has a certain way with his phrasing as well as his obviously talented metaphor, imagery and personification, and as you said has alot more finesse.
Though Gilmour i think still has something going in the lyric department, i hope that can develop to the point where it's like his expression through the musical side of things. <_< |

When the sleigh is heavy And the timber wolves are getting bold You look at your companions And test the water of their friendship With you toe They significantly edge Closer to the gold Each man has his price Bob And yours was pretty low History is short the sun just a minor star The poor man sells his kidneys In some colonial bazaar Que sera sera
that's so cold. As arrogant as Roger comes off, I've just always liked him best. |
I agree, its not whether you agree with his views, its how damn good his lyrics are.
|
How good is "Relics"?? I saw it at a Future Shop for 10 bucks...
|
$10 for any album is just about worth it.
well if you like the band's other work i mean. |
I agree. It's mainly just singles from the Barret era but it also has a studio version of Careful With That Axe Eugene which would be ocol.
|
Roger is not bitter much at all anymore, but he does go off on tangents, he is very political, and despises war, and out of the blue, he will be off on a tirade and getting all worked up and out of sorts, and he is quite scary when he does that. Then a moment later he is very quiet and docile, but the few times I have met and spoken to him at length I do sense a lot of deep hidden rage.
He also play a mean game of Billiards (pool) and he is an avid hunter. I wonder if he imagines Dave as his prey at times.lol |
you've met him...?
|
No that would be a cool thing to do, play pool with Roger.
And he doesn't like Margaret Thatcher, you can see that easily from The Final Cut. |
you've met him...?
Yes 3 times, and a few members of his current touring band. I was to his house in the Hampton's a number of years ago. He is quite unnaffected by his weath and fame, a very regular guy, well sort of.lol We e-mail each other once in awhile, he actually uses a hotmail address. |
woa.
freaking insane man haha |
No that would be a cool thing to do, play pool with Roger.

The reason he moved to the US is because the UK was taking 60-70% of his earnings at one time. He still keeps a house there, but claims the US as his residency. Honestly, he is a very good pool player. I never won a game out of 5 games. I thought I was pretty good to playing in bars most of my life, but he does all those bank shots. |
Heh, I seem to remember either Pink Floyd or another popular British band having problems with tax whilst recording their new album, resulting in one of the members having to fly from the US to London and record the album within a time-frame of 48 hours to avoid a huge tax.
|
Led Zeppelin had a lot of problems with that I think.
|
Hrm, but the band I heard that about wasn't them. It might have been in the liner notes, I think, so I'll check all my Floyd albums first.
It may be the liner notes for Is There Anybody Out There? |

That'd be sweet if he actually started posting regularily on here haha. |
Heh, I'd die if Roger posted here even once, but I don't think this place would be healthy for him. :p
|

Last year, he got on our band forum for a few months, which was way cool, but I think he was getting bombarded by a lot of our members and he kind of backed off. Not sure if he come on a forum this big, imagine the questions huh? I could ask though. |

lol, yeah , he might really go off, imagine Roger in the pit..wowo! |

Pink Floyd had to record one of their albums in France or something because of taxes. I dont remember exactly, but its in Inside Out. |
It was The Wall.
Completely recorded in France. I always seem to miss the best convo's when I'm away from here :( |
That could be, but I think what I'm thinking of was earlier than The Wall. It might have been Animals, or WYWH.
|
It wasn't Animals or Wish You Were Here. WYWH was recorded at Abbey Road and Animals at Britannia Row, both in England, if I remember correctly.
|
Hmm, oh well. The point being something happened somewhere at sometime.
|
It was the Wall. The companies they invested in fell through or something and they needed to make a year's worth of wages tax free. So they recorded the whole record in France.
|
Yeah, France and mixing in New York, if I remember.
|
Roger would be the next Plexi
|
Yeah, France and mixing in New York, if I remember.
And orchestral parts in Los Angeles, I seem to remember from reading Inside Out. |
I think I may have read somewhere that they recorded a bit at whereever Rick was living at the time, Greece or something around there.
|
I saw Roger Waters in concert last night. It was unbelievable. Its something I will never forget. And I couldn't believe his voice, it was spot on like the albums I never suspected that. And he played Leaving Beirut I had never heard the song before but it really got to me. The kindness that family showed to him was more than I have ever seen from a westerner and yet they are the ones getting bombed, it was quite sad really.
As for that guy that met Roger, how did you meet him? |
Lucky bastard, rippa, I was all set to go to that before something came up. Nevermind though, I've got my albums to comfort me. :p
|
Yer the advantage of albums is you can listen to them again and again. lol I hate it when good shows end. So have you heard Leaving Beirut? If you like the anti-war sentiment of Final Cut you'll enjoy this.
|
Yeah, Leaving Beirut is great.
|
He had a background movie for it as well, in the form of a comic. It was really good to watch. Ive never cried or anything during a song(and I certainly wasn't about to in a public place) but I actually got pretty choked up in that song. I do with every anti-war song Roger has written.

I would assume through JayLink; ties to the record business. |
What's JayLink?
