^ I really like that band. I need to find a way to get ahole of any releases they have.
I have just one more song from them :(. It is exactly like Opeth.

The 20mb upload pwns my machine though, so be patient.

I searched the internet far and wide for more releases, but nope... just 4 songs.

Hells Bells 08-21-2005 04:34 PM

April Ethereal? And they sound like Opeth? Well, the name couldn't have been taken from the song since MAYH was released in 1998 and the band started in 1996. They actually started a year after Opeth released Orchid. I want to hear some of this bands earlier stuff, it would be really weird if Opeth and these guys developed the same sound concurrently.

Shazzam 08-21-2005 04:53 PM

What album should I get next? I just bought Blackwater Park and ****ation. They both kick ***.

Darkness 08-21-2005 05:05 PM

Still Life or Deliverance... Or My Arms, Your Hearse.

ROH 08-21-2005 05:06 PM

@Shazzam-You should get Still Life next, no competition. Still Life and Blackwater Park are their best two, IMO.

That might change after August 30th though. I've only heard TGC and GOP. GOP kicks LOADS of ***.

Killtacular 08-21-2005 06:32 PM

Still Life or Morningrise. Still Life is better as a whole album, and as individual songs, with a great balance of heavy to light moments. Morningrise has killer dual guitar riffs with all songs being over ten minutes long (with Black Rose Immortal being over twenty[!]).

Deth 08-21-2005 06:35 PM

Morningrise. For sure.

ROH 08-21-2005 06:43 PM

Ughh, I forgot about Morningrise. Brilliant album. Black Rose Immortal and To Bid You Farewell are two of my favorite Opeth songs.

Rawb 08-21-2005 07:30 PM

i saw opeth in edmonton, for the sounds of the underground tour recently. some f*cker threw a beer at the singer while he was adressing the crowd. crazy canadians. :P

Deth 08-21-2005 07:31 PM

You wouldn't happen to know their setlist would you?

Iron Man 08-21-2005 07:33 PM
You wouldn't happen to know their setlist would you?
If it was at Sounds of the Underground, they probably only had time for 3-4 songs...Demon of the Fall being one of them, I'd assume

Rawb 08-21-2005 07:35 PM

yeah they played i think only four songs, cuz they had to make some room for the other bands. but they treated us with a song from their soon-to-be-released record.

Deth 08-21-2005 07:40 PM

Cool. I know Demon's always played though.

Odyssey316 08-21-2005 08:30 PM

Anyone know what kinda equipment Opeth uses. I know they got the PRS and Laney, but curious if anyone knows what type of effects or pedals they use. Thanks

Only 3 or 4?! How the hell can you get all of a band like Opeth from that few of songs.

Darkness 08-21-2005 09:20 PM

Dude I was there, I was so pissed when he threw that... so was SYLs drummer...

Mike called the guy a motherfucker. :D

They played Deliverance, The Grand Conjuration, To Rid The Deisease and Demon Of The Fall.

Check the offical site.
You wouldn't happen to know their setlist would you?
They played "The Drapery Falls", "Demon of the Fall", one song that I for some reason forgot :(, and then they finished the set with "The Grand Conjuration". At the time, TGC wasn't released and I didn't even know the new album's release date. Mikael talking aobut the album for a sec and said it is released August 30th then said "it sounds something like this... this is called 'The Grand Conjuration'" and went straight into song. The audience went nuts. I was really surprised at how many Opeth fans were there.

Slapping Penguin 08-22-2005 12:11 AM

I bought Still Life yesterday, but I already had half of it downloaded silly me. I should have bought my arms your hearse but it was 8 bucks more.

Special Brew 08-22-2005 12:24 AM

I like Still Life more than My Arms, so I think you made the right decision. Still Life is the only released Opeth album that I don't physically own, but I have it downloaded until I can find it :thumb:

Slapping Penguin 08-22-2005 02:45 AM

Yeah thanks mate. White Cluster is a sweet song but its no Blue by Eiffel 65.

Deth 08-22-2005 05:55 AM

I prefer Serenity Painted Death to White Cluster myself.

PeEpHoLe_10 08-22-2005 05:59 AM

I prefer The Moor to anything on Still Life

Deth 08-22-2005 06:15 AM

I also like Godhead's Lament more than The Moor.

Slapping Penguin 08-22-2005 06:17 AM

Yeah Godhead's Lament is my faviorite on that album I don't think White Clusters the best I just thinks good.

Lateralus23462 08-22-2005 06:28 AM

Yeah, I love Godhead's Lament. The guitar solo kicks my ***, but my favorite part is the whole mellow part around 4:45. Such beautiful singing...

Adam Jones is GOD 08-22-2005 06:33 AM

Kick in to that octave slide part = Goosebumps

Every time I find myself partial to 1 song off SL, another one will grab me by the ears.

Deth 08-22-2005 06:33 AM

"What would they care if I did stay, no one would know, oh oh"

I love that part.

Lateralus23462 08-22-2005 06:40 AM
"What would they care if I did stay, no one would know, oh oh"

I love that part.
Yeah man, that's the part I was talking about. I played that part for a friend who thought Opeth was just mindless death metal (horrible assumption on his part) , and now he's a fan of a lot of their work. I really wish I could see them play that song live...

Deth 08-22-2005 06:51 AM

Did you watch the video that was posted a few pages back? They open with Godhead.

Lateralus23462 08-22-2005 07:08 AM

Wow, I can't wait until I get home now. I need to watch that video.

Iron Man 08-22-2005 08:43 AM

You're gonna have to import this one. They released it on a British label (Peaceville) and it hasn't been released stateside. I heard they were planning a state release on a new label, but until then, get to ordering...

I actually imported a copy of Still Life for $14. $11 + $3 for overseas shipping, I got quite the deal

Edit: Maybe there is a US release I don't know about, but what I do know is it's the only album of theirs that I haven't seen in stores.

Darkness 08-22-2005 09:25 AM

IMO The Moor and Face of Melinda beat anything else on that cd... Godheads Lament doesn't hit me like it seems to hit everyone else... But the Moor is one of my favorite songs ever.

Lateralus23462 08-22-2005 09:44 AM

Yeah, Face of Melinda has my favorite Opeth riff (the first distorted riff), tied with the second riff from Blackwater Park.

ArcLite 08-22-2005 09:59 AM

I had to come in and say how much I'm loving the new album. I think this one may pass up BWP as my favorite album. Lots of killer riffs and Mike's voice sounds great.

bucket 08-22-2005 10:13 AM
"What would they care if I did stay, no one would know, oh oh"

I've been attempting to learn to sing and play at once so of course I gave that part a shot.

:upset:

What Opeth songs/parts do you guys know how to sing and play at the same time? I can do Hope Leaves' verses poorly, but not that chorus part.

Darkness 08-22-2005 10:19 AM

"what would they care if I was gay? no one would know, hoooomoooo!"

Hehe... sorry.

ROH 08-22-2005 11:12 AM
I prefer The Moor to anything on Still Life
As do I.

The whole album is gold though. Godhead's Lament is fantastic, as is Moonlapse Vertigo and Serenity Painted Death. Plus, Face of Melinda gives me chills every time I listen to it.
