hmm, well thats the way i know it, a scale's named beucase of its root note (lowest note) and the pattern of steps, major or minor.

Im not saying coffee's wrong, coz he seriosuly knows his stuff, but its not the way i know it

Ok thanks, if you play 5 on E, its the exact same note s 0 on A so realy that could be. 5th note is always the same as the below it on open, also if you have 2 on A you can go up a string and play it as 7 (go up a string, add 5, go up 2 strings add 10, go up 3 and 15). Its what i do somtimes to save string changes. I dunno if you knew that or not.

WHen you come to right you own stuff you know what you doing and dont have to stick to root notes. Make better songs and stuff, and can read sheet music if you know all the notes on the board.
