I am an intermediate player (4+ years) and I have really crappy Pearl Hi-Hats. I am looking for something that I won't have to replace and have a nice smooth sound to them, somewhat jazzy. I've been looking mainly into Zildjian ones, but any recommendations would be nice. Any price range, any size.

HeLLmO 02-11-2006 09:57 PM

^look at sabian HHX, i think the manhatan hats may be good for u. zildjian K's would probably be good too

obscene army 02-11-2006 11:44 PM

Manhattans are pure sex.

I'd like to thank everyone that help me choose the AAX Stage hats, got them in today and they sound great. You also suggested for me to get my 21" AA Rock Ride which also was the sound I was looking for. So since this thread is batting 1000 for me I have another request. I have 18" and 16" AAXplosion crashes, the 16" I really like but would like to change the 18" to a crash with a little more sustain. Maybe an AA med or AAX stage ?? something that would compliment my setup ...... TIA

Sabian for sure?

Tim 02-12-2006 12:52 AM

go with the AA medium. For sure. Great crashes those are.

Chester 02-12-2006 10:01 AM

AA medium and AAX stage crashes are both really nice for a great price, try them out for yourself and see what you think is better

wow, i want like the same exact cymbals, i have 14" stage hats and 16" AAX stage crash and want to replace my ride with a 21" rock ride adn get either another AAX stage crash or an AA...

Static 02-12-2006 10:39 AM

OK guys, I am looking for a nice and crisp ride. Very jazzy, with a light tone and feel to it, but it also has to be able to crash and get loud for more metal playing. Help?

FL3P 02-12-2006 10:54 AM

I feel like such a whore but I think the A Custom medium ride would work. I think a sweet ride ight be an option too.

I think an HH Raw Bell Dry Ride could also work pretty well there.
Right now I have a 21" AA Dry ride and i'm looking for something with a bigger bell, a bit more stick definition and just a little louder and cutting overall really. More presence... No price restriction or brand preference.
Anybody....?

chewaz 02-13-2006 09:04 PM
Anybody....?
The way it sounds, it seems like the AA Raw Bell Dry Ride would be suiting, just like he said.

chewaz 02-13-2006 09:22 PM

will an AA regular 14" over an AAX xcelerator 14" sound good? or will it make ringy noises?

Tim 02-13-2006 09:31 PM
will an AA regular 14" over an AAX xcelerator 14" sound good? or will it make ringy noises?
The AA regular hats and the AAX stage hats are so similar that it would probably sound the same as xcelerator hats. The xcelerator top is pretty much like the stage top. medium in weight. The difference being that xcelerators i dont think come in brilliant finish. Ive never seen them in brilliant. Youre better off jsut getting xcelerators or stage hats. Save the trouble of ordering 2 sepereat cymbals.

chewaz 02-13-2006 09:37 PM

what i meant to do was, im gettin the AA regular so i can buy a aax-xcelerator bottom, and have like two different tipes of hats

Tim 02-13-2006 09:39 PM

so youre going to buy the AA pair and then the xcelerator bottom too so youre having like 3 hats? so you can pair them differently?

chewaz 02-13-2006 11:39 PM

yeah! me smart (right?)

Tim 02-13-2006 11:55 PM

Well theres nothing wrong with trying it out. If you dont like it then you can buy another hi hat and just keep trying new combos.

Metalftw 02-14-2006 11:26 AM

Hey guys!

I don't like the crash I've got now, it's more like a jazz-crash in my opinion. I would like to have something that more fits to Heavy metal beats and such.
What do you think I need? :naughty:

CasB 02-14-2006 12:14 PM

Paiste Rude :p
