Actually, indentured servants and black slaves participated in slave revolts with each other and recognized their common class interest before indentured servitude was outlawed and whites were given special treatment and land to divide the races. The Southern economy wouldn't have flourished without slave labor. So, kind of.

I don't which slavery you are referring to (as in what time period and where, but I'm assuming you're talking about indentured servitude), but it's a lot easier for people with white skin to sneak into the white world than it is for people with black skin to fit it. And maybe you're also forgetting that segregation died a very slow death that stretched into the 80s (you know, like, the decade we were born at the end of?) and shockingly still reappears, although infrequently, some places.
