ah. how'd you hear of it? i'm just curious because he's a good friend of mine. he just got signed to Nujabes' label last year and has been getting big since then; a song actually played in the olympic stadium during women's gymnastics at one point haha
Wow, thats pretty cool... It was a last.fm recommendation, 'cause I was listening to a hell of a lot of Saltillo and was after more stuff like that. His latest remix on Myspace is absolutely killer.

ariel pink's haunted graffiti- the doldrums
man i've really fallen in love with this album, i love getting really high and listening to it. the man is out of his mind but at the time its so cool how the music and melodies dance on that line between catchy and just out there. any reccs for similar stuff? |
Sean Moore- Tone Poems in Lo-Fidelity
He worked with Ariel Pink on some of his earlier albums. This album is like a more stripped down and conventional Haunted Graffiti. Black Moth Super Rainbow's first album Frank Zappa's We're Only in it For the Money, Lumpy Gravy, and Uncle Meat R. Stevie Moore. He is the innovator of the whole home recording thing and is a big mentor/influence to Ariel Pink. Holy Shit- Stranded Between Two Harbors An album with Matt Fishbeck and Ariel Pink |
thanks alot man, i'm going to try to find as much as I can. For BMSR, are you talking about Start A People?
Yeah. I think it has a similar atmosphere.
i can definitely see that now that you said it, was just listening to that album too, i think I like it more than Dandelion Gum. its funny if I had to pick two albums that make me feel like im in some kind of alternate reality when I listen to them, it'd be these two. start a people has always had this cool entrancing effect on me where i get really into the music. reminds me of acid alot actually.
I think its because Ariel Pink and at least on that BMSR album, they imply that the music comes from some sort of time period that may or may not have existed and may just in fact be an historians interpretation of a certain time period so you're actually looking through the lens of a biased observer onto lost tribe between the walls of thrift stores in Midwestern towns
yeah i really thought you put it nicely when you said "i feel like i want to live in the time when these songs were written" referring to those first couple tracks on The Doldrums, its exactly like that. The lo-fi production has alot to do with it and like the string sound on the keys he has going on like For Kate I Wait gives it this like eerie almost like the song is in black and white. that and the jangling guitar he does alot gives just this feel like it was made about 50 years ago or something.
Have you seen his music videos? They're mind boggling
no i bet theyre insane though. have you seen him live? i read about the whole live performance thing and he plays with a different band each night/he plays all improv stuff?
I'm seeing him on Sunday actually. Will post here on how he is.
he's touring? where are the dates?
ahhh i see two dates in LA

hey does anyone know if the Nation of Ulysses songs "A Kid Who Tells On Another Kid..." and "Cool Senior High School (Fight Song)" are mislabeled or something? they're listed as tracks 5 and 6 respectively on AMG and wikipedia but the lyrics make it seem like each song is actually the other one
