for one thing, it's not related to english at all (even languages like russian, hindi, farsi, and greek are distantly related to english), so the grammar is completely different.

for example, in english roots are full words, and we generally alter them by adding suffixes - for example, the plural of "dog" is "dog[b]s[/b]", and the past tense of "walk" is "walk[b]ed[/b]".

in arabic, a root is (generally) three consonants, and you change the vowels within and add various suffixes and prefixes to change the meaning. for example, the root "k t b" indicates writing, and...

"[b]k[/b]i[b]t[/b]aa[b]b[/b]" is [I]book[/I], while [I]books [/I]is "[B]k[/B]u[B]t[/B]u[B]b[/B]". [I]library [/I]is "ma[B]kt[/B]a[B]b[/B]a".
"ya[B]kt[/B]u[B]b[/B]u" is [I]he writes[/I] in the present tense, while [I]he wrote[/I] in the past tense is "[B]k[/B]a[B]t[/B]a[B]b[/B]a"
