It's hard not to steal at least something. I don't think there's a single person who can admit they never, ever, took something they heard and liked and integrated it into a song, even if it was only once.
Right On.

drugstore cowboy 08-08-2005 09:40 PM

Johnny B. Goode, Roll Over Beethoven, and some early Beach Boys song that I can't remember, all have the same opening guitar riff. I mean, there are probably slight differences, but it's very obvious that they're all supposed to sound the same.

BludgeonySteve 08-08-2005 09:41 PM
"One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer" is one of the funiest songs I've ever heard.
I know most of that on guitar (some improvised of course) and I like to do a george throgood impression, my friends think it's great.
Zeppelin stole music from blues musicians.
They used some lyrics, but their end product was much better than the original, always.

Hmm :/ Not sure about that one.

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-08-2005 10:20 PM

So, mainly due to Lunch's threads, I've been listening to quite a bit more classic rock. Stuff like:

Pink Floyd(My CR pasttime
The Doors
King Crimson
Cream
Quicksilver Messenger
The Who

and a few others. I love to listen to it, not only because it kicks my ass, but also because it really shines light on some of the influences of some of my favorite modern bands, like Tool, Porcupine Tree, Dredg, and more.

Hopefully you'll be seeing more of me around here. :-D

Disraeli Gears f'in rules.

Stairway was supposedly ripped off of the song Taurus, but Page sure streched it out :o

I love "At Folsom Prison". It is an amazing live album.
Disraeli Gears f'in rules.
I honestly have no clue as to why that album is so great in peoples' eyes. I mean it's completly un-impressive and boring. Great musicians but they sure don't show it there. The songwritting is very sub-par. I have no clue why someone would label such an album "innovative". I was very disappointed when I first heard it.

Some people could say that about Syd Barret. It's all opinion, but I'm personally finding it to be quite the album. I think I was telling Bus this, but the cover of it would make one hell of a T shirt. :p
mmm, king crimson are great.
Yeah, I downloaded In the Court of the Crimson King, and it's an awesome album. There are some boring sections, like the wanking in the last few minutes of Moonchild, but it's still a very solid album.

But Lunch just expanded the QMS love and made a really good thread about them letting alot of people know who they are.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 08-09-2005 11:50 AM

He introduce Spirit. The Family That Plays Together is fantastic. Great mixture of classical, jazz, blues and psychedelia. Thanks Lunch. :)

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-09-2005 11:58 AM

PF- I've heard some of Belew's playing. He did a couple solos on Porcupine Tree's latest album, and he has a very interesting style. Both solos feature a bunch of discordant bends, and then some aimless wanking. :p I'll check out some tracks from the album though

Schyma- I was saying that I dislike him. I have a great deal of respect for the man, and although I don't like early Pink Floyd as much as the 70's era Floyd, I still enjoy listening to it. I just used Syd Barret because I know you're a fan of him, so I knew you could relate. :p

yeah, hes an ineresting player. fripp handles a lot of the guitar work on it too, of course. but tony levin and bill bruford are at the top of their game on this album.

I've got until the 28th. 19 more days of no responsibitly. Man, it seems like just last week I was tell my self "Sweet, I've still got half of my break left!" but now it seems like school's just around the corner. :upset:

Walrus Gumboot 08-09-2005 12:49 PM

I posted this in the Beatles thread too, but in case anyone is interested, this is a version they did of "And Your Bird Can Sing".. on drugs. It's from the 2nd Anthology, and it's pretty funny:
