what is IFS?
|
Pretty cool. How did you make it?
what is IFS?
'Iterated function system' That means that you take a point, apply some transformations to it, then render it, then do so a few thousand more times The secret is that the points have to converge in a certain pattern, otherwise you'll end up with junk. Fractals are graduate level math and I'm only at the shallow end of the pool atm; I don't understand all the theory yet, but what little I do know has been pretty rewarding. In fact, they may have a practical application: there's this girl I work with in the school ESL lab who looks me over every time I walk in and forcibly dragged me over to help her with both hands a few days ago. Since I have clumsy mathematician/programmer hands and can't physically draw art, my IFS pictures may greatly increase P(L) where L is the event that I score. (Plus I could drop mad geographical knowledge about her home country.)
Pretty cool. How did you make it?
I took instructions from here http://local.wasp.uwa.edu.au/~pbourke/fractals/ And made my own code with them, which allowed me to color the images however I wanted. Coloring was the most fun part: I'd set up a vector describing the proportions of the colors and then play with it until I got good results. The last one for instance was 25% royal blue, 65% lime green and 10% purple. It's better than mixing fountain beverages at Burger King. After I generated the raw image, I blurred it to make it look more realistic, because the raw png I made with GD was a very grainy aliased rendering. |
