I just feel like mentioning I have The Essential Leonard Cohen playing right now. Every human being who likes music should have the song "First We Take Manhattan" on their computer/mp3 player/CD player. It's that good.
I've always felt that he doesn't really have anything going for him besides writing. I just wish most his songs weren't so mellow and occasionally dull.

But he is an amazing writer. :thumb:

If you're talking about that Bob Dylan tribute CD, it's great.
You know I think a band is just as overrated as the fans make them. For example, I listen to Cream seldom, and talk about them only a little (I love them, though I just for some reason don't listen much), so I have not overrated them, in fact I probally underrate them. Though a band I listen to The Brian Jonestown Massacre (as I'm sure anybody on the site will tell you) I promote them like they are god, and I talk about their music as if they were the best. Do I overrate them? Yes. Does anybody listen to them? No. So are they overrated, no, but since I talk about them this much I overrate them.

The only version I've heard is the George Thorogood version. Sweet song though. Is the Bessie Smith version any good?

blue3 04-17-2005 10:39 PM

I don't listen to Cream that much.. I'm not a big fan

thickasabrick 04-17-2005 10:41 PM

That's true what you said about bands being overrated Pigonthewing.

In someone else's eyes, any band can be overrated. It's just an opinion thing really. Because everyone has a different opinion on a certain band, therefore you can't generalize a band by saying they are overrated.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 04-17-2005 10:47 PM

I was hoping someone would debate me that not state what overating means. :upset:

Edit: Man this houka is AWSOME!

Yeah man thats what I'm saying. I mean we classify music way too much. I mean overrated or underrated, classic rock, metal, or pop, a certain type of music will have a different effect on the lives of different people. We are not better then anybody else because we listen to classic rock, or because we listen to a band that nobody has heard of, our lives are just effected by different things then sombody who listens to Nirvana, or pop. I mean if they Brian Jonestown Massacre became huge tomorrow, everybody here would call me an overrated fan boy, though if they never got big people would think I knew a lot about music because I listen to an unknown band. The only difference I found a group that effected my life before everybody else.

What are you trying to say? Both in your original post, and your edited on part.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 04-17-2005 10:56 PM

Sorry if I came out unclear. I said Cream was overated and I was hoping someone would defend them...etc. As for the edit I meant that my new houka is ****ing sweet.

I think that Clapton overshadows the other members too much. Its like Jimi Hendrix, he is a god on guitar, but he compleatly overshadows the other GREAT musicians in the band.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 04-17-2005 11:22 PM

Clapton's name overshadows the other members.

If you dont know what a houka is its a water bong with 2 or more hoses. I have a shroom shaped one that's black and has trippy disigns all over it we call it "Gloomy Shroomy". It also came with a awsome little bowl too. 4 hits and you're blown. :D

Yeah mine is named Mr. Bubbles

I love that thing, the only problem is the weed kicks really quick on it, but it makes up for it because of how messed up you get. Shit my parents just went to bed I might be using it in about 5 min with my sister.

Yes, it's excellent. SRV does a version of it, too.

Glitterati 04-18-2005 12:00 AM

He's hard to pin down as a genre, but does anyone like Warren Zevon? I got his last album a while ago, and it's great:).

pigonthewing82 04-18-2005 12:03 AM

You know in one of those MANY bootlegs I own I have a Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Winter, and singing on two tracks, Jim Morrison, and they were all just jamming out randmonly. It was awsome. Jimi And Winter played a great version of Red House.

ATM 04-18-2005 12:07 AM

Johnny Winter - Rock Me Baby

Best song ever.

pigonthewing82 04-18-2005 12:11 AM

I love his work with Muddy Waters its really awsome! And he is still touring, like he came to my state last summer on tour.
