Never before have blast beats been played so viciously behind a band that’s playing so slow — in death metal no less, where speed is usually the name of the game — but Ulcerate skinsman Jamie Saint Merat does just that to set the backbone for the woeful yet delicate crushing which the rest of the band bestows upon the world. Atmospherics and dissonance are the strongest tools in the arsenal of guitarist Michael Hoggard instead of speed and agility. The result is a unique brand of death metal that’s creepy, doomy and jarring instead of groovy and energetic. Not that there’s anything wrong with the latter, but the former are what make Ulcerate worthy of your attention; no one else sounds like them, and they’re heavy in a truly new way.
first track on the new ulcerate blends dullness and mindless dissonance nicely |
not gonna bother listening to the stream since my preorder was shipped yesterday
i did like the track they released a few weeks ago though |
i really liked that track after a lot of listens, since initially it seemed just too similar to everything is fire (which is not a bad thing)
listening to the stream now, i'm on the second last track, and it does sound like EiF part 2, but i'm liking it. they probably are just refining their old formula, but more listens will tell. might not listen to it again until i get my preorder though. lol at someone reviewing it the day it streams though. |
yeah it's lol but not surprising at all
|
haha yea
i suck, i found a 320kbp rip and am probably gonna listen to it once it's done downloading |

New Aborted Fetus album slams hard.

Random question, I only have Seepia from Portal. Should I check out their other two or is it more of the same?
|
they're a bit different from seepia, more murky and atmospheric
i think seepia is their least best anyway, so i'd recommend you get the other two, particularly outre |
lol Scion Rockfest has no good bands
I would probably go for free though |

no probs
|
i liked swarth the most
|
i hated portal at first but i kinda like them now
|
i still cant get into portal
not enough northern hyper blasts |
portal would sound better if they dropped the gimmicks
|
i can't get into them in a normal death metal type of way, like for the riffs or wars. but when i listen to them more just for their general atmosphere i can appreciate it alot more.
|
lol Scion Rockfest has no good bands
You are such a failure, like I can't even put it into words. |
Just had a chance to give Outre one listen, I enjoyed it, like Nepenthe said more for the atmosphere than in a normal DM way. I've never been able to enjoy Seepia though
|
why are there tours with all deathcore bands and tours with all like, "elite" bands
but when it comes to an all tech death show, there are none to be found |
why are there tours with all deathcore bands and tours with all like, "elite" bands
but when it comes to an all tech death show, there are none to be found
Because really shitty bands love to tour together, and really awesome bands like to tour together. And when it comes to mediocre stuff well, idk they just latch on to really shitty or really awesome bands I guess. |
you seriously don't like any of the bands on that bill?
|
you seriously don't like any of the bands on that bill?
yup needs more Cynic |
you seriously don't like any of the bands on that bill?
In case you haven't been around lately, Brent doesn't actually like good death metal, so that should clear some things up for you. |
because
is not good |
