still totally agree with daitro.
You don't agree with them so much as you just wanna be as "non-mainstream" as you possibly can. |
I can't believe you are still talking about this.
Cob: Movie is going to destroy my face. |
You don't agree with them so much as you just wanna be as "non-mainstream" as you possibly can.
and what exactly is wrong with that? |
theres nothing wrong with it unless you feel ashamed of your lack of free thinking.
|
just because you can understand positions of "mainstream" culture doesn't mean you are more free-thinking than someone who chooses to reject it. freedom of thought isn't something you can gauge like that.
i hate pop culture, i have nothing in common with it and i have no plans on following it nor have i. does this mean that i am not free-thinking and just subscribe to patterns of thought that are stereotypical for the sub-culture i choose to identify with? no, it just means i'm a ****ing weird person and i want nothing to do with a world that is so repulsive to me that i hate the ideas that seem to infect the mind's of people who don't see the things i do. call me close-minded, i don't give a ****. i think for myself and could care less what anyone thinks about it. |
and what exactly is wrong with that?
What isn't wrong with it? Saying that you agree with somebody who has no point, just for the sake of not being associated with something, "mainstream," is completely retarded and pretentious, see; Martin. |
I'm pretty sure not being 'mainstream' just for the sake of not being 'mainstream' is retarded.
I don't even know why we're debating this. |
it's ok if you want to take it out of context then you are right, it is not compromising any thought. i don't think you or martin or anyone actually is so tuned out, more-so that i think mappymassacre and doop in combination are playing dumb and dumber
but if you were to tell me you agreed with someone's point of view because it is not aligned with the mainstream, regardless of the claim itself, then you are letting a movement make your mind up for you. that's kind of stupid isn't it! that is exactly what's wrong with it doop are you religious? |
i reject more than i accept. i think ideas through, but i don't feel the need to think about an idea if it's presented to me through a medium that is within a culture I feel I have no place in. i think about a lot of different ideas on a regular basis, but i will continue to identify and remain outside of the cultural norms dictated by mass society. i don't have a problem with anyone else's choice to do whatever, but i do have a problem with saying i choose not to think when i make a conscious decision to remain apart from something that i see no redeeming qualities in and one that has my whole life taught me that deviance from the accepted ideal that it puts forward is wrong. just be yourself and do, think, say whatever the **** you want, that's what living is supposed to be.
|
also, matt i have no ill-will towards you on this, it's just a rather touchy subject with me personally. i still think you are a solid dude.
|
my schedule for next semester:
Public Speaking some dumb science class for gen ed credits, i don't even remember what it is Introduction to Macroeconomics Introduction to American Government Western Heritage II some dumb math class, don't remember the name of this one either Easy semester. |
What exactly does Western Heritage II entail?
|
Western civilization from 1600 onwards.
|
Cool.
|
How many units is that?
|
Western heritage only has 2 parts but it's pretty much an introductory history class, but I need to take both of those plus both intro American History classes for my major (history).
Next year I start taking cool 400 level history classes. I will do nothing but write papers. |
haha that sucks. yeah community college is a breeze. and aside from that i get $1,500 in grant money.
|
Cob, those are some weird classes for a sociology major.
|
He just said his major is history.
|
lol, opps.
I could've sworn he said he was majoring in sociology a few times. |
that schedule actually looks rough to me. . .
public speaking, history, science, math classes wats with that. . . |
Ugh, math. My only weakness!
|
i'm really not looking forward to having to take a math class.
|
I'm a retard when it comes to math, my gf is like a math genius, though. (LOL big surprise)
|
Yeah, I'm horrible at math. I'm in this math class right now where we hardly even even use numbers. We deal with logic, probability and reasoning. It's pretty fun.
|
Sounds fun.
|
I finally decided to stay in Erie and major in history, get a masters and certified to teach. As much as I love sociology, the careers in it just aren't as appealing as teaching.
I actually love writing and I love history, and 400 level class essays are a lot more analytical and less about recall, which is awesome. I suck at math, that math is specifically for people who aren't technical majors and it deals with math outside of science fields. The science is supposed to be easy too. I have to take public speaking, but that doesn't bother me. |
Public Speaking could be interesting.
