My dad got me into Curtis Mayfield, Dylan and the Talking Heads.

shane italian 05-06-2005 04:05 PM

My dad saw Devo when he was a kid.

Shtein 05-06-2005 04:16 PM

My mom got me into the classics Billy Idol, The Clash, and Johnny Cash.
...my mom is so cool  ...

Brain Toad 05-06-2005 04:25 PM

My parents listened to either oldies ar ebad pop-country. I picked up on the oldies and was singing along to Buddy Holly, Little Richard, and the Beach Boys when I was 7 or 8.

AndreTheHyena 05-06-2005 04:42 PM

The first song I ever sang and knew all the words to was "Ring of Fire" when I was 3, maybe 4. I played the shit out of that record.

My dad saw the Grateful Dead 18 times. And he was friends with the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, and Brewer and Shipley ("One Toke Over the Line"). He still talks to Jim Brewer.

Brain Toad 05-06-2005 04:50 PM

I just had an idea for the forum. It's to make things easier on me and the other mods, but may benefit you. Split the Recommendations Thread into two. One would be the list of bands, and the other where you actually post what bands you want on there, so nothing has to be deleted, and it makes it easier for a mod, so they dont have to go scrolling through all the deleted posts to find the new Recs. Any opinions?

RetiredAt21 05-06-2005 05:00 PM

My dad saw .38 Special, like. a million times. He worships Jeff Carlisi.

sketchyjoe 05-06-2005 05:04 PM

My mum saw Lou Reed. My dad was a bouncer at a Thin Lizzy concert.

Shtein 05-06-2005 05:23 PM

Lou Reed is teh shit

Unless you make it non-sticky, but people mightn't be able to find it, n00bs i mean, it would make the actual rec. thread alot cleaner. Good idea i think :thumb:

Brain Toad 05-06-2005 05:42 PM

At least one will be stickied, and linked to the other one. Both may be as well, don't know.

Let's Chop Cats! 05-06-2005 05:44 PM

You could just link that thread in the 1st post of the Rec Thread and then close it. Then make the other thread and don't sticky it.

Biscuit_box 05-06-2005 05:45 PM

I think it would be better jsut to have the 3 stickied threads up there as it is and put the link to the actual rec. thread where people rec. bands in the thread

Edit : Exactly what Reiner said

sketchyjoe 05-06-2005 05:45 PM

Soulseek goes down more often than your mother.

AIRIC 05-06-2005 06:31 PM

Not your mother.

Really i think that would end up being more confusing and maybe even more work in the end.
I like the way it is now just fine.
Is there really a secret are of these forums?
There is the mod forum, and the tab mod forum, and maybe an admin forum but I doubt it.

Rise Me Up 05-06-2005 09:04 PM

Oh someone said that in the pit, so I didn't know how true it was.

Anxious 05-06-2005 09:30 PM

How do you get to be a tab mod?

The Cameo Role 05-06-2005 09:42 PM

People slam the Dead when they don't know what they're talking about. I have American Beauty and it's amazing.

Yesterday I had to write a timed essay and I got bored so I decided to drop in random cultural references into it.

Jessizzle 05-07-2005 07:20 AM

Im the best at writing thoes timed essays cause i used to have this theacher who would give you essays iinstead of sending us to the office, I remember my 3 pages essay on " why we should not eat school products" I hold the record of a 9 page essay in one gym class!

sketchyjoe 05-07-2005 07:22 AM

The poem we were writing about was about rain so I dropped in a quote from Bill Bailey about "At what point does precipitation reach such a point where it takes on the more apocalyptic mantle of the water-based punishment of the lord." I also used a Dylan quote at the end too about how a hard rain was going to fall.

Jessizzle 05-07-2005 07:26 AM

I bet my "why we should not chew gum in class" essay was just as good,
It started like this : " I will not chew... ( Listed as many brands of gum i could think of) In class. That coverd more than half the page.

sketchyjoe 05-07-2005 07:29 AM

I once had to write an essay in detention on why I shouldn't flick ink and I wrote three pages on how people who flick ink are all going to end up dead in an alley at the age of 25 with a needle in their arm.

thepo 05-07-2005 08:53 AM

One time I wrote an essay on why I talked after a standardized test, thus disturbing others in other classrooms, which may or may not have finished. I wrote on how as long as I can't see the person, they don't exist, and even if I respected their existence which I can never be too sure of, would be an insult to their existence, as I could never possibly know what goes on in their mind, or what they find respectful or disrespectful.

We had a sub in science this one time, and she was telling us stuff we already knew. So I was like "Shut up, we learned this last week". So she's like "Go sit in the corner!". So I sat in the corner and started banging my head on the wall. Anyway I ended up writing a one page essay on clasroom etiquette. I did it in size 72 font though :D

Brain Toad 05-07-2005 12:23 PM

I just listened to Thrice, and I think I liked it. Oh noes!
