How about listing a few decent Black Label Society songs for me, preferably ones that will let me experience how bad ( \m/ ) Zakk Wylde can be. I have some instructional thing but I don't have an .avi codec to view it at the moment, so maybe a few tracks will help me out, thanks.
Hey I'm not usually a metal kind of guy, and my music collection has at most 4 or 5 metal albums.
Lately though I've been listening to Pelican a fair bit, so are there any other bands out there that are similar (not necessarily instrumental) that you think I'd like?
Jesu. Perhaps, anyway. Vaguely similar, but I'm of the opinion that everyone should like them. |
I'm back again.
What are some awesome Norther tracks? Or anything else from Finnish metal bands along those lines, except Children of Bodom, I already whore them. :) |

I've got a few Imperanon tracks. They're ok, they sound a bit thin to me and get a bit repetative. I think I've heard one Kalmah song, the one with sweeps in the beginning, repcak is/was learning it.
Really all of Nothers stuff is good. Just dive in.
Nightwish are great and finnish.
I love Norther, but to my tastes, think they just got worse with every album. Dreams of Endless War is one of my favorite albums ever, Mirror of Madness was pretty good, but didn't have that same atmosphere that DoEW had. As for Death Unlimited, I'm just not a fan. But to DuCran, get a few tracks from each album and see what fits your taste. I also have Imperanon's Stained album and enjoy a good number of tracks on it. |
Hey, I'm looking for some progressive hard rock/metal bands to get into. I've been listening to Dream Theater a lot lately, which I like, but I'm looking for a band with less...excessive qualities. I love strong melodies and I want a band with clean vocals (no growling).
Some of my favorite bands are Rainbow, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Deep Purple, and Judas Priest. I've heard a lot of the more famous progressive rock bands (King Crimson, Yes, Pink Floyd), so I'm looking for something a little less well known. Any suggestions? |

If you can withstand some death vocals. Check out Into Eternity. They have plenty of clear vocals. Half/Half or so. Porcupine Tree is a solid bet, I'd think from what you listed. |
Symphony X is good, but possibly pushing the excessive side. Give Camel a try as well.
Listen to Opeth |
Andromeda
IQ Ayreon (perhaps...not the Human Equation though, that has growling in it) Ambeon Star One Spock's Beard Evergrey Actually, you're bound to find tons of great prog bands on the label InsideOut. |
Fates Warning would also be worth a listen. :)
|
Communic, Biomechanical, Scariot and Into Eternity might work for you.
thanks dude ill check them out |
thanks dude ill check them out
I'll second Into Eternity. They are excellent. Buried In Oblivion is an excellent album for of great riffage/solos, clear & death vocals and drumming. |
Can someone tell me CD's a person who likes heavy metal and classic rock should get before all other CD's.
|
for metal: Judas Priest - Painkiller.

Any Iron Maiden albums |
Any Iron Maiden albums
Maybe Edward The Great if the person hasn't heard any Maiden at all. That way he/she can pick based on that CD:thumb: |
^nah, if he were to pick up a 'greatest hits' album then he should pick up 'the essential maiden' which covers every album maiden has done
|
That sounds much better. Im not much of a Maiden guy but they're a good listen.
I think maybe I should pick up that album if i got enough for four CDs:p Oh yea, Any recommendations for a guy into Novembers Doom? |
for metal: Judas Priest - Painkiller.
Damn right. The solo in 'painkiller" is insane. :thumb: |
Oh yea, Any recommendations for a guy into Novembers Doom?
To Welcome the Fade is probably the best album out of what I have heard. Can anyone recommend me some carcass, but which is neither the grind that is Reek of Putrefication, or the melodic death of Heartwork. Is there anything more or less in the middle? |
Yep. Necroticism: Descanting the Insalubrious.
