It's the best song on Ancient Dreams.
anybody want to recommend me some good doom to start out with?
Saint Vitus - S/T
Saint Vitus - Mounrful Cries
Reverend Bizarre - In the Rectory Of The Bizarre Reverend
Trouble - Psalm 9
Candlemass - Nightfall
The Gates of Slumber - Suffer No Guilt
Penance - Spiritualnatural
Pentagram - Relentless
Warning - Watching From A Distance
Solitude Aeturnus - Into The Depths of Sorrow

rippa32 08-01-2007 06:53 AM

My first Doom album was the Pentagram best of Turn To Stone (or something like that) I usually never buy best of's but that was cheap and had a fair few songs on it. If you can find it I do recommend it as an intro, also anything by Candlemass or Saint vitus.

Shattered_Future 08-01-2007 12:22 PM

If you want something a little more accessible that's still classified as doom, pick up some Swallow The Sun. The Morning Never Came and Hope are terrific albums.

I second this list.

Jondur, that link should be good for another month or more.

C.O.A. 08-01-2007 01:46 PM

thanks for the list dude. and i have some swallow the sun already.

Nostalgia 08-01-2007 11:52 PM

Anyone like Witchfinder General? I'm ****ing worpshiping them now.

Totenkrieg 08-02-2007 12:06 AM

Parts of Death Penalty are excellent.

pate 08-02-2007 09:08 AM

Both of their albums are great. The live album sucks though.

metal-militia 08-02-2007 09:22 AM

Death Penalty is brilliant. I like the Soviet Invasion EP too, the live version of R.I.P is much better than the album version in my opinion.
PA?
yeah I love them. I'll put up with bluesiness if the other parts are good enough to merit listening.
Anyone like Witchfinder General? I'm ****ing worpshiping them now.
Yeah, they're awesome.

I've been listening to Sleep - Sleep's Holy Mountain lately. I think I'm getting sleepy though from all of the laidbackness of it.

pate 08-02-2007 11:23 PM

PA as in Pagan Altar?

RetiredAt21 08-03-2007 06:51 AM

Anyone like Black Bile?

Dargon 08-04-2007 05:59 AM

no

Solitude Aeturnus is growing.

Stormrider 08-04-2007 09:18 AM

I've been listening to Doomsword's self titled a lot lately. Really great, I love it.

I'm waiting for Resound the Horn to come into the mail, now. I heard one song, and if the rest of the album is going to be like that, I'll be happy.

the2stranger 08-04-2007 09:41 AM

I'm listening to some Reverend Bizarre now, In The Rectory is classic, but I must say I'm a bit reluctant about buying the new album.
A doubleCD might be a bit too much of the same for me.

Nostalgia 08-04-2007 09:47 AM

Rectory is awesome. I've heard the songs are incredibly long (like half-hour length if I remember correctly) on the new album, which really puts me off.

the2stranger 08-04-2007 09:50 AM

Yeah, the immense song lengths also put me off, A CD with one or two long songs is ok, but not a doubleCD jst filed with them.

damn, the song in the rectory has the most amazing lead/solo work.

Dargon 08-04-2007 10:19 AM

sieg heil Doomsword
sieg heil Reverend Bizarre

DOOM

ALL OVER THE WORLD

ETERNAL WILL BE OUR MISSION

DOOM

ALL OVER THE WORLD

DUNDUDNUDNUDNDUNDUND

yeah, now I have to listen to that.

NP: RB - Doom Over the World

Shattered_Future 08-04-2007 11:23 AM

I don't like the new one. It's way too long and the songs are extremely boring. There's not enough riffs throughout them.

In The Rectory is absolutely fantastic, on the other hand.

TojesDolan 08-04-2007 11:37 AM

Yeah, In The Rectory keeps it interesting all the time.

RetiredAt21 08-04-2007 04:28 PM

Donkelheet, anyone?

**** yes.

Yeah, Rectory is way better than the new one.

bassaholica2004 08-05-2007 02:59 AM

So Witchfinder General is really bluesy? Sounds like my kinda stuff...

I'm trying to get into Reverend Bizarre, but I haven't made it past the first song yet. :( So far nothing really grabs me; the riffs aren't very heavy or entertaining. I'll keep trying though, because as I understand it if you don't like this band you aren't part of the Doom club or something. :p

If you're talking about the Cathedral EP/song, then yeah, and it's real good stuff. There's some jazzy **** in there too.

Anyone into Ahab?

Bartender 08-05-2007 05:16 AM

I think they mean the Death Penalty band.

it's not that you like cathedral (although I personally find them tedious and yawn-inducing)

but you didn't know the band Witchfinder General, kind of considered a classic band amongst metal circles.

lolol

Shred Danson 08-05-2007 08:58 AM
classic band amongst metal circles.
Obviously NOT if I confused their name with a Cathedral CD of the same name :upset:

jrowa001 08-05-2007 09:04 AM

the only doom ive been listening to lately is Evoken's Antithesis of Light, long *** album but its excellent. i love the atmosphere on that album

RetiredAt21 08-05-2007 10:03 AM

Donkelheet rules.

Nostalgia 08-05-2007 10:12 AM
So Witchfinder General is really bluesy? Sounds like my kinda stuff...
Yeah. I have their first demo, and riff-wise and drum-wise it sounds a lot like Sabbath. Normally I wouldn't be that into it, but the vocals really make it for me.

Shred Danson 08-05-2007 10:59 AM

I'm curious to hear Witchfinder General now that I've made a total jackass out of myself yet again

Would you be so kind as to send me the demo?

Trev: WG is essential listening.
