I'd have to wait to wait until next year to be able to go to those gigs. I'm glad the highest Canada goes is 19+ :D

Has anyone heard anything about a tour for GR?
They should do another American tour, I only got to see them once at SotU.

Hells Bells 08-18-2005 11:02 AM

Yeah, I unfortunately couldn't make it for SotU :upset: I'd rather see them headlining a tour, I'm not sure how much playing time they would have gotten at something like SotU.

Darkness 08-18-2005 11:07 AM

At sounds of the underground, they played 4 songs, which was more then I expected.

Anyways right before the 2nd last song Mike said "We will definatly come back and do our own tour here... you see, normally we play about 20...MILLION HOURS a night!" And everyone started laughing... it was the best day of my life. :D

Only 45 mins but in one city they got extended time. I think they played for 1:30 there. That was my first time seeing them and they were amazing, and I want more!

Four songs...heh..that's like nothing. Still, it's great you got to hear them play more than you expected. They'd better come back on their own tour! ...And play for 20 million hours.

Darkness 08-18-2005 11:50 AM

They played Deliverance, The Grand Conjuration, To Rid The Disease, and then Demon Of The Fall... it was awesomely good. They said they got wasted at "that big mall you guys got", which meens West Edmonton Mall. (Alberta, Canada)

Hells Bells 08-18-2005 11:57 AM

I would looove to see them play Demon of the Fall. Apparently it's a crowd favourite, so they probably would do it :)

Yeah I've heard of the West Edmonton Mall, I've never seen it though since I live near Toronto (Ontario...way east of Alberta for those of you who don't know :p).
Does anyone want to put together some Opeth covers? Preferably "Windowpane" and "To Bid You Farewell". I'm a bassist and I might be able to vocals.
Uhh, I'm all set, I have most of an 10:30 instrumedley recorded already, I'm just seeing if there is any interest in this thread from any true Opeth fans to hear it. I'll definately post it in the guitar forum, but if you guys are interested I'll give you first dibs with a three-four minute demo. The song order is 'A Fair Judgement' until after the acoustic break, 'The Drapery Falls' until after the first solo, then the 'Deliverance' intro into the acoustic break and opening theme of 'Demon of the Fall' out of order. What do you guys think?

matt4 08-18-2005 12:33 PM

sounds cool enough, but 10:30? should cover a lot more Opeth songs in 10:30 than that. That's just my oppinion, though. I mean, have you seen Dream Theater's instrumedley on Live At Budokan?

Special Brew 08-18-2005 02:54 PM

I definately want to hear this cover when it is done. Sadly, I am not good enough to play Opeth correctly, and I have no way to record anyway.

Excuse my ignorance, but I seen someone in the "Introduce Yourselves" thread saying they were listening to a song from the new Opeth album. Last time I checked, the album was scheduled for an August 30th release (Here in the states at least)...Was it released early in europe or has it been leaked somewhere? Just curious.

Darkness 08-18-2005 04:57 PM

Leaked, a long time ago. Almost a month now.

It has been leaked in limewrie, slsk etc...

Iron Man 08-18-2005 04:59 PM

Wow, shows what I know.

I never even considered downloading it anyway...I've shelled out money for their first 7 albums, their DVD and a T-shirt, I'm not going to stop being a loyal supporter now

Heh, that would be me. I was listening to Reverie/Harlequin Forest I believe. It leaked a while ago.

School - Waterloo! And I'm probably going to move there for good after I go back to school this year.

Yes I have, and that thing is a beast, but it isn't really the feel I'm going for. I'm hoping to create one normal sized Opeth song from a handful of their other ones, to make one complete, flowing song. Anyway, here's the first installment, the part from 'A Fair Judgement':

Tell me if I'm headed in the right direction!

I'll tell ya what I think of it ^^

It's not bad, the only thing that really bothered me was the first transition. That part from A Fair Judgement progresses very gradually, and jumping in with the next song when the acoustic part has just gotten started it breaks the flow of the song. Other than that, you've put it together well, and the parts fit together nicely.

Black Rose Immortal owns too hard to be legal.

Yeah, that cover was pretty good.

In other news... the 30th is coming up guys... :D

How would you be able to listen to the album if you were in pieces all over the floor? :p

Special Brew 08-20-2005 06:27 AM

Anyone know of any bands similar to Opeth's acoustic/clean stuff? I know there won't be many bands that sound even close to Opeth, but I want some of the closest suggestions possible :thumb:

Maybe some stuff by Suidakra.

Special Brew 08-20-2005 07:20 AM

From the MP3s listed on their website, they are nothing like Opeth in any way.

They have some acoustic stuff, i'll see if i upload some for you.

Special Brew 08-20-2005 07:30 AM

Oh cool :)

the2stranger 08-20-2005 07:30 AM

for Opeth sounding stuff:
Katatonia
Porcupine Tree
Agalloch

Special Brew 08-20-2005 07:50 AM

I know those bands and like all three, but I am looking for some clean or acoustic groups or songs that have that dark quality to them like Opeth has.

the2stranger 08-20-2005 09:04 AM

^
you can try some Dissilusion as well, but Opeth's style is so unique that it's very hard to come up with similair bands

np: Borknagar - To Mount And Rove

bucket 08-20-2005 10:33 AM

I posted a song that was a 20 minute Opethesque epic by Soundsleep. One of the guys in that band posted his band's song on the Opeth forums ages ago. It has some very nice acoustic breaks like Opeth.

http://www.mikseri.net/artists/?id=37808

Here is a site with 3 of their 4 songs that I have of them. All 3 are prog rock and AWESOME. They don't compare with Opeth's acoustic stuff style wise, but I would buy anything if Soundsleep released anything. But as far as I know, it's just some band that probably won't go anywhere. :(

I suggest anyone in this thread to at least download "Amity Between Life and Death"

PS- Seriously this band pwns music really well.

Special Brew 08-21-2005 01:49 PM

^ I really like that band. I need to find a way to get ahole of any releases they have.

I've heard a band called Novembre have a sound similar to Opeth, haven't checked them out yet though

i am the robots 08-21-2005 01:53 PM

Novembre is quite similar to Opeth, though not nearly as good, if you're looking for bands similar to Opeth my suggestions would be Novembre, Farmakon, and April Ethereal.

Special Brew 08-21-2005 02:01 PM

April Ethereal is a song on My Arms, Your Hearse. Are you sure that is a band?

I am downloading an album by Novembre right now. I will let you know what I think soon. I can't find any Farmakon releases on Soulseek though.

EDIT: Nevermind about April Ethereal http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=6401

Special Brew 08-21-2005 02:51 PM

Ok, I really like Novembre. This is similar to the stuff I was looking for. I still can't find anyhting by Farmakon or April Ethereal on Soulseek.
