Haha shoot man... those guys make so much here, all union, they made well, I'll tell you, about $18/hour + full benifits and retirement depending on how long they been in the district.
what your joking in america cleaners don't make minimum wage?

p.s. we better not tell all the old ragged stuggling housewifes that clean our schools @ $12.75aud per hour or else they'll start flocking overseas!

Josiah 03-26-2007 06:04 AM
what your joking in america cleaners don't make minimum wage?
Oh no.. not for the schools. That's a government job, federal union.

LA is always hiring swear cleaners... think it's like 80k/year + bennies.

That'd be $10/hour here in the states for those housewives, not too bad for basic cleaning. More then workin at fast food pays.

Charlie Daniels 03-26-2007 06:08 AM

No offence but thats just crazy.

I mean in Australia we're talking like $25k a year for a cleaner who works a 40 hour a week...

Well ok.. Oh I guess I figured that US since I came out at just over 19k/year.

You also said stay at home wives... that indicates a second income. 20K + at least 20K ain't a bad income really.

20K/year for a single person is plenty of money. And if that's the best they can do, they should prob look into night classes at a trade school or regular college.

I forgot what it is, but the average american dual income household is only like 60k/year. And the single is much lower of course.... could be totally off of course, haven't seen those numbers in a long time.

Also you have to look at cost of living. 20k year would leave you homeless in Orange County, you couldn't barely afford a 1bd apt rent on that, I mean JUST rent.

However in a place like Colorado, where you can have an Apt for $300/month. 20k year goes a LONG way for a single person.
Only 30% of people in Colorado have 4 year degree's. And it's much less in many other states.
$10/hour is a good income that allows many people, even many family people to live very comfortably in America.

Charlie Daniels 03-26-2007 06:16 AM

yeah usually it's wives of blue collar workers that clean our schools. like during the day they take care of the kids, then the old man comes home from the mine and she'll go off to her job cleaning the school and come home at like 3am when she has to get the kids up at 7 the next morning.

no wonder they always look so ragged.

Drum Phil 03-26-2007 06:18 AM

Over here binmen get paid like, £12 an hour i think. Its a stupidly high paying job cause no one wants to do it.

Oh wait, we're not supposed to call em bin men. They're garbage disposal technicians.

Charlie Daniels 03-26-2007 06:22 AM

My old man's a dustman,
he wears a dustmans hat.
He wears old grimey trouser
and he lives in a council flat!

I say i say i say...

Well that's a bit harsh. There is a reason unions were formed.

Also keep in mind population, demand and general economics. You live in what would be considered a very rural area, and very removed from most the world. Your living conditions are going to reflect that.

My house, I had recently appraised at $590,000. That's a considerable chunk of money. More then most the world can ever expect to make in a life time.

Life has interesting twists and turns, where we were born we have no choice. But to relate, that we do.

dude, tasmania is only 400km from Melbourne, one of the largest cities in the southern hemisphere. There are two massive ferries operating both an inbound and an outbound service daily. These ferries hold something like 1000+ passengers and their cars, as well as freight.

Tasmania, because it exports alot of both rural and industrial products, has extremely reliable and affordable connections by air and sea with Melbourne. It's cheaper to fly from Launceston to Melbourne than it is to bus from Launceston to Hobart. Hobart is the capital city of Tasmania, and is about 300km south of Launceston.

It's not exactly isolated by anyones standard (except maybe some American living in some sprawling metropolais in California)...

Tasmania is very similiar to most of south eastern australia, and is hardly "removed from most of the world". :-|

Charlie Daniels 03-26-2007 06:35 AM

EDIT: The wage for menial labour jobs in Tasmania is the same as it is in Sydney and Melbourne :-/

That's all well and good. But aparently, according to you, economically it's in shambles and house wives are busy cleaning up schools til 3am. Doesn't sound like a very prosperous place to me... not to mention you've been around, lets say, 200 years?

Orange County went from Orange Farms to the 5th biggest economy (CA) in the world in less then 80 years.

That's economics.

We didn't get to be a "sprawling metropolais" by being economically stupid.

Corkofski 03-26-2007 06:40 AM

£12 an hour?

i'd do it for that...

on another note, you have to laugh...

it's hardly in a shambles... i'm sure i could find some evidence saying that you have struggling families in California. Hell I've heard mexicans are usually poor and surely you have some of those?

Yup. Lots of mexicans. Illegal immigrant's don't count though!

Struggling Families? Oh yes many. Like I said though.. you can move to CO, or many states and live for a fraction of the cost. Any family that is struggling that much here, has only sentimentalities holding them back - they can relocate to any number of much more economically viable locations.

Can't really complain it's expensive to live, when you are making a willful choice to live in one of the top 10 most expensive places in the world.

That's like complaining you don't like the heat at your job, but you work at a steel mill cause you like the work.

Corkofski 03-26-2007 06:56 AM

its not the music i find funny, well it is, but also how they expect to be taken seriously. read their page....

Jezen 03-26-2007 07:00 AM

plz buy our album!! only 1.50!!!!

BWHAHAHA ARRONS SOLO

 lmao @ the album cover

Hahaha, wow.
That's depressing.
I mean seriously.
Perhaps I'm just a spoiled rich little brat or somethin', but like.
My parents have 3 houses:
325k
~200k
And for the third I have no idea, but I'm pretty sure it's worth about the same as the ~200k one, if not more.
Oh, and in a year my parents make something like 160k. Each get 40 for their jobs, and they have numerous steady investments to make for everything else.
So.
600k never seemed like massive amounts of money to me.

Corkofski 03-26-2007 07:16 AM

my parents are £35,000 in debt, and my mums just walked out...

Jezen 03-26-2007 07:18 AM

Can't you write off debts greater than 15 grand?

Corkofski 03-26-2007 07:19 AM

how?

Jezen 03-26-2007 07:20 AM

Watch daytime TV. There are like a million adverts on it.

Corkofski 03-26-2007 07:22 AM

lol

ok

Drum Phil 03-26-2007 07:24 AM

Aye y'can. Theres a "little know peice of government legislation" that the whole world exploits cause of those adverts.

Corkofski 03-26-2007 07:25 AM

koolo

must find that out

on another note, shall i dread my hair?

over easter?

Drum Phil 03-26-2007 07:26 AM

Wouldnt advise it.

If you really want dreads then i'd say get synth ones to see how they look first.

Corkofski 03-26-2007 07:29 AM

ihave no doubt it'd look good.

just the effort involved
