It was? I didn't know that. Id love to hear the 8-track version. Of course id have to track down an 8 track copy AND an 8-track player.

Riva 11-11-2006 08:10 AM

But would that work?

Because Pigs On The Wing is basically two different songs anyway, they would have had to re-write them majorly if they were originally one coherent track.

Jo Shoe Wah 11-11-2006 08:54 AM

Yeah i think they work quite well at either end, both lyric and music-wise (softer buildup to dogs/pigs/sheep which calms down the pigs on the wing again), i can't imagine them being one piece, or where they would put it in the album, interesting.

MrConeman 11-11-2006 01:56 PM

Hey guys, sorry if this counts as spam or self whoring or whatever, if it's against any rules I'm fine with a mod deleting this post... *repost from guitar forum*

So yeah. I'd been telling myself I would learn and record comfortably numb for awhile (pulse version btw), it was a bit of a struggle but I managed to learn it by ear (not perfectly mind).
It's such a great solo Dave Gilmour rules, I hope I did it justice.
Forewarning, I lost the plug to my podxtlive and my strings are about 3 1/2 months old, so go easy when critting the tone, I tried
btw, excuse during the "Whale noise" section, I have no whammy bar.

Comments are more than welcome, here ya go...

Posting here too because its Floyd and I'd like to hear crits and stuff from the hardcore Floyd fans of the board, again, sorry if I'm breaking any rules.

MattSharpIsCool 11-11-2006 05:22 PM

I listened to Animals a bit over the past few days, and it's easily become one of my favorite Floyd albums. Its so completely different from any of their other stuff though, its a lot poppier.

And I always thought Roger wrote pretty much everything from WYWH through The Final Cut. David wrote some of the music, I know this, but Roger wrote a good chunk of those albums by himself. Thats what I've always understood, at least.

Dragon_Prince 11-11-2006 05:39 PM

He wrote the lyrics ;)

Riva 11-11-2006 07:23 PM

In general Dave, and often Rick, wrote a lot of the music. Roger usually wrote the lyrics and came up with the overall concept.

Jo Shoe Wah 11-11-2006 09:06 PM

MrConeman: I thought it was good man :)

The differences aren't really that big, only thing i would say to add to it/work on would be the harmonics as they give the solo a quite harsh feel, but nice job. I too worked it out by ear and i know how tricky a few parts were to figure out. :thumb:

MrConeman 11-11-2006 09:38 PM

Thanks JSW, I appreciate it:) (Bob Dylan ftw btw)
Yeah, I missed that very first harmonic he hits to start the solo off, that kind of annoyed me, I love the sound of that one :(
But I wasn't active enough to do a re-take either :p

Flysmoke 11-12-2006 07:54 AM

Last night i sat down and watched live in pompei what a dvd just epic!

Jo Shoe Wah 11-12-2006 08:29 AM

MCm: Bob Dylan ftw indeed :p And yeah i've missed it a few times too, what i find really hard to get is the bit around 1:47 in your video, the harmonics he does there. They're so cleanly done and oh man i've spent quite some time trying to get them down like that.

I really should pick Live at Pompeii up, i've watched Echoes on youtube but i'm really keen to check out the rest of it.

MrConeman 11-12-2006 08:47 AM

I got it recently too. I just watched Echoes as a sneak preview, I really must get around to watching it in its entirety!

Jo Shoe Wah 11-12-2006 08:52 AM

I really liked watching the preview i took and seeing the band much younger than i'm used to, amazing how much ability was even (especially) there in the early days.

lucky luciano 11-12-2006 03:44 PM

I heard a rumor that Pink Floyd are going to be doing some shows in the U.S., does anyone know if this is true?

Hamilcar 11-12-2006 09:44 PM
I heard a rumor that Pink Floyd are going to be doing some shows in the U.S., does anyone know if this is true?
I don't think so, there hasn't been any news on a full out Pink Floyd tour at all. However, Roger Waters (the bassist) is going on a world wide tour in 2007 that I'm sure will eventually come around to the US. He also toured Europe and the US earlier this year, I saw him in September :smoke: So that could be what the rumor was referring to.

BludgeonySteve 11-12-2006 10:54 PM

Yeah, probably not. Although i'd sure like to catch Gilmour solo.

rippa32 11-13-2006 12:11 AM

Im going to see him next year in Australia(but I bet you all knew that already:p)

Leper 11-13-2006 12:18 AM

Great DVD. I'd watch it again right now if I didn't have to go to bed right away.

Edit: The only thing I don't like about it is that Nick Mason is really annoying.

MattSharpIsCool 11-13-2006 12:29 AM

How so? I think Nick Mason is pretty funny in that movie.

Jo Shoe Wah 11-13-2006 12:49 AM

How was it when you saw him?

Which show are you goin to? I just bought my tickets for the Acer Arena one today :)

Jim 11-13-2006 05:40 AM

Finally watched LAP. Fantastic. The interviews are a real treat. Cocky bastards too!!! The performances were great. Some I enjoyed better than the originals. Careful With That Axe Eugene finds more life on this, I think. Particularly Roger's crazy vocals :smoke:

btw, from what I've read (and for those who are still vaguely interested), the original one piece version of Pigs on the Wing was the two verses, separated by a short guitar solo in between, which I think was played by Floyd session musician Snowy White. I hope that's remotely correct :(

Flysmoke 11-13-2006 05:54 AM

If that does'nt relax you what does.

The one seperated with a solo by Snowy was on the 8-Track version im pretty sure. It'd be awesome to have it as a bonus track on CD or something.

And to the guy who is seeing him in Acer Arena. Im seeing him in Brisbane.

Jim 11-13-2006 06:36 AM

Me at Melbourne :)

MrConeman 11-13-2006 08:39 AM

I'd love to see Roger or Dave if they were to come to Ireland.

Dragon_Prince 11-13-2006 08:40 AM

I understand, they are both great live. Roger playing DSOTM and David playing Echoes

^^

Yield 11-13-2006 02:29 PM

Has anyone heard of The Machine? They're a Floyd cover band and they are coming to North Carolina. I wish I could go, but I doubt I'll be able to :(

Riva 11-13-2006 05:12 PM

I've heard they're quite good, but I've only seen Beyond The Darkside and Aussie Pink Floyd in action.

Yield 11-13-2006 05:14 PM

that's why I would like to go. High Point isn't a long drive from here.

MattSharpIsCool 11-13-2006 11:16 PM

Was there a studio version of "Careful With That Axe, Eugene" ever recorded? Its on Ummagumma, but its a live version.

Just wondering.
