Is it just me, or does Cicatriz Esp by the Mars Volta take alot of things from Meddle? I heard a bassline that sounds alot like the one in One of These days, and the part in the middle is extremely similair to the middle part of echoes...
Maybe I haven't listened to that album lately because it's on my computer that is getting fixed.
dsotm is a good one, i like wywh better,my ranking for the top 5
1. DSOTM
2.WYWH
3. Meddle
4. The Wall
5. Animals
You like WYWH better than DSOTM, yet you ranked DSOTM higher???

Distant Echoes 03-06-2005 06:23 PM

Ill check if there is a review, if their isnt, ill probably make one.Sputnik doesnt let me log on though...its really pissin me off too. Its been like that for weeks now, and mx wont do anything about it (reported it to the CD review error whatever v3.0).

Right now Im burning my sister, back from college on spring break, a bunch of Floyd CDs, since i successfully converted her from rap/hiphop to allaround music. I giving here DSOTM, WYWH, Meddle, and Obscurred by Clouds. I figured not to give her Animals and The Wall since shes not about hard rock at all, more so slower rock and says the most important part of songs are lyrics.

From what you described I would definately give her Animals. It's slowpaced and it has some very meaningful lyrics.

Syd sang on Jugband Blues, the last track on A Saucerful of Secrets, and album wise, I think that's it. I know he sings a lot on Relics, but that's like a compilation.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 03-07-2005 02:22 PM

Its really to bad they didn't release some of the early Floyd songs. (Apples and Oranges, Vegtable Man, Milky Way....etc)
Yeah...given how little he recorded with Pink Floyd, his legend has grown far more than would really seem rational. Don't get me wrong, I love his stuff with the band, but I just find it somewhat odd that he seems to be more of an icon than even Roger Waters or Dave Gilmour. My Chemistry teacher started arguing with me about the merits of Animals vs The Wall the other day, which was a pretty surprising experience. :amaze:
Syd is the Psychedelic King!

It seems to me that each time a person dies at young age they become legend (Robert Johnson, Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix..etc) Syd somewhat died he went insane even if he still lives he is dead in the public's eye.

Yea anybody who likes Syd should get the Pink Floyd video anthology one. Its a collection of him playing with Floyd. You can on ebay. Its a bootleg but a good one.

I have a load of bootlegs of him with Floyd but they all have relly shity quality. Do mean to say these have good quality recordings?

They are of great quality because they were recorded from tv preformances they did. It is really good, you hear the band jam a lot.

Wow, there's a lot of posts in this thread...

I just recently got my first dose of Pink Floyd when I listened to my dad's Dark Side of the Moon LP on his surround system... since then, I've bought the CD version, as well as Wish You Were Here and The Wall. They are all awesome in their own way, and it definitely beats the crap out of anything they play on the radio today. I'm thinking about getting Animals just for the awesome album cover =D.

Favorite Songs:
DSotM-Time, Money, and Brain Damage
WYWH-Have A Cigar, Wish You Were Here
The Wall-Hey You, Run Like Hell, Comfortably Numb

lunch998 03-07-2005 02:57 PM

There's a lot more on Animals than just a cool cover.

You'll find there is a LOT more to the cd Animals then the cover. I like it better then Dark Side of the Moon.

EDIT: Sorry lunch I must have been typing mine while you posted yours.

BigTrav415 03-07-2005 02:58 PM

I know I'm just saying it ha an awesome cover. I listened to clips of it and it sounds pretty cool.

BigTrav415 03-07-2005 03:00 PM

The main reason I hvaen't bought it yet is 'cause i'm almost broke on spending money from buying the other three CD's in about one week :( I hope to get it soon

Floyd in general has cool covers. I don't know my favourite though.

Modestbob 03-07-2005 03:06 PM

Does anybody have a collection of Floyd bootlegs on cassette? I have a few shows on cassette and i am just starting to collect. I have pretty much all of Floyds stuff on cd except the post-waters compalations/live stuff. and im looking for somebody to trade with. if you aim me at uglyCasanovabob we can talk.

Im not sure I see it, but i could check it out. But i would say TMV is almost a modern day version of Floyd, but more posthardcore/latin influenced.

There is definately a very heavy Floyd influence in their music.

magicbus 03-07-2005 05:51 PM

Does anybody have the bootleg of the early show they did called The Complete Top Gear Sessions?

DeusExMachina 03-07-2005 06:50 PM

There was this awesome bootleg store I went to in New York, and I almost got a bootleg performance of DSOTM, but I got a SRV bootleg instead. I kind of regret it now. I was talking to my friends dad yesterday, he said that he saw Pink Floyd on the DSOTM tour, and that it was the most amazing show ever.
