I find St Anger can be very annoying if I listen to more than one or two songs from it in a short space of time. It was ok but by far their worst album to date, yet its still nice to see that there sound has progressed overtime... nothing is really worse to me than a band that just has one sound that occurs on every album.

MRDuCran 10-06-2006 11:02 AM
I know with St. Anger he helped write the songs, but I don't think so with the previous 3 (ReLoad, Load and Self-titled). They're just the songs Metallica wanted to write.
Yeah indeed. I love Load and Reload.

2muchket! 10-06-2006 04:31 PM

TBH St Anger had a lot of filler stuff and the songs were just dragged out too much for my liking. But still theres some good stuff on there. When does the new album come out or is there no date ???

No date yet, sometime before Summer probably.:thumb:

actionfan32 10-06-2006 08:24 PM

And hopefully a tour soon after that.

Joe 10-07-2006 10:29 AM

It's expected long before summer. There are rumors that it will be coming out Winter '07. I'm really excited about it. There'll be a summer USA Tour afterwards I bet.

Jev 10-08-2006 06:36 AM

I hope they tour here first :p

MRDuCran 10-08-2006 12:31 PM

Damn right, Europe is the best.

actionfan32 10-08-2006 01:12 PM

I've always wanted to go to a concert in Europe, I hear you guys always have the best crowds (and from the live videos I've seen, it would appear to be true).

MrSigma 10-08-2006 01:39 PM

hetfield wrote some catchy riffs on the st anger album

MRDuCran 10-08-2006 01:43 PM

ffs!!!

you have to smoke massive amounts of bud for the drums to just be funny as hell

What do you guys think metallica would be like today if lars died instead of cliff

MRDuCran 10-08-2006 03:02 PM

I know what this thread would be like if you stopped fucking trolling...

MRDuCran 10-08-2006 03:35 PM

Yeah, just what I was thinking.

MrSigma 10-08-2006 04:12 PM

u wanna take this outside

Chu 10-08-2006 09:31 PM

For band reasons I have to learn Eye of The Beholder, it's actually easier then I thought it would be, but I've only looked at the first few riffs.

MrSigma 10-09-2006 12:22 AM

that song is pretty easy. the justice album was their best album in my opinion, but i love cliffs instrumentals pulling teeth call of ktulu and orion

run don't walk 10-09-2006 12:59 AM

I'm really exited for this new album, I just hope it's more of a return to thier "thrashy" sound. I'm not saying a carbon copy of the old Metallica just something "thrashier."

MrSigma 10-09-2006 01:06 AM

from the 2 new songs i predict the new album will be

Metal / Punk style

i hope the vocals dont kill the songs like on st anger

hetfield makes some cool Drop-C riffs

run don't walk 10-09-2006 01:09 AM

I didn't hate St. Anger it's just the drum sound/production of it that made me not like it so much. Hopefully with the new producer things will get better.:)

MrSigma 10-09-2006 01:25 AM

metallicas style changes alot

Thrash Metal
Metal
Harmonic Metal
rock
kirk goes rap for a song
numetal
punk

Jev 10-09-2006 02:19 AM

Harmonic Metal? Nah.

And not Punk either.

Chu 10-09-2006 04:57 AM

In my opinion, Metallica have pretty much just stayed a metal band tbh...

Apocalyptic Raids 10-09-2006 05:03 AM

Harmonic Metal :lol::lol::lol:

W.M.A 10-09-2006 05:15 AM

They were never nu metal.

x00046455 10-09-2006 09:49 AM

They were never nu metal. it was more like thrash metal -> heavy metal -> heavy/southern metal -> thrash(but with no solos!)
something like that.

I wouldn't say they've ever really been punk. It's arguable that Kill 'Em All has some punk influence, but other than that just no. I assume by putting nu metal you were referring to St. Anger, which isn't nu metal, but I could see where you get that from. As for Kirk rapping I have no idea what you're talking about. Load and ReLoad could definitely be called Hard Rock. I think for harmonic metal you may have been thinking of The Black Album. Unforutnately you're wrong The Black Album is more melodic than most of their other work, but not melodic metal. Good call on metal and thrash metal.

...BTW RTL can be considered like speed/thrash metal, I think.

metalhead_matt 10-09-2006 01:45 PM

punk?

What?

Metallica has always been a metal band, regardless of the style of metal. They've never been punk, although you could argue there are some punk influences. Saying Metallica is punk is like saying they're country because of Mama Said.

MRDuCran 10-09-2006 01:59 PM

Oh for fuck sake, can we just ignore Mr Sigma's bullshit??
For band reasons I have to learn Eye of The Beholder, it's actually easier then I thought it would be, but I've only looked at the first few riffs.
Yeah, one of the easiest Metallica songs, for me at least. The solo is sight-readable.

It is actually, it's surprising. I haven't learned it yet but it's not bad at all. I'm in the process of still getting that sweeping down in Leper Messiah. I'm also learning Disposable Heroes too.

MRDuCran 10-09-2006 02:09 PM

Ah the Leper Messiah solo, I love that. The trickiest part for me is probably the 4 note descending run after the sweeps, which are quite easy for me.

I haven't played Metallica in ages actually, I spend too much time with a metronome.

I was never very good at sweeping. I'm just trying to get it now so I don't hit too many open notes. I can hit the ones I'm supposed to hit very clearly it's just when I leave that string it's still ringing. I'm actually ok on the 4 note descending because Kirk does it all the time and it's usually pretty similar.

Me too, I've been learning Trivium's new Entrance of the Conflagration (which is amazing)

adamstartin 10-09-2006 02:41 PM
punk?
lol
lol
garage inc is pretty punky, tell me so what aint punk? Although is it a cover album. And numetal, possibly St. Anger?

I understand. You're talking about left hand muting, alot of people have the most trouble with that so you're not alone. I used to play that 4 note thing all the time too but to be honest with myself, it used to sound crap and now I'm obsessed with technique, I have to make sure it sounds perfect and I'm not at 180bpm with that lick just yet.

Chu 10-09-2006 08:55 PM
I haven't played Metallica in ages actually, I spend too much time with a metronome.
Pffft.. Metronome > Metallica :D
I'm obsessed with technique, I have to make sure it sounds perfect
I suffer this too, I won't say I've learnt something until I can play it through ten times cleanly (Usually with a metronome).

MrSigma 10-09-2006 10:01 PM

metallica gone punk
