Never post again.

what's so good about this book?

Brain Toad 05-05-2005 05:11 PM

Cahs by Johnny Cash is amazing. But if you only want fiction, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey, Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess, 1984 by George Orwell, Catch 22 by Joseph Heller, and Brave New World by A. Huxley are all excellant books. Another good non-fiction is the Communist Manifesto.

sketchyjoe 05-05-2005 05:30 PM

And the winner for naming ever stereotypical "punk rocker" book is...

The guy on this banner looks exactly like my old shrink: http://spe.atdmt.com/b/TRMONTICKTIC/160x600_niq_2b_or_nb.gif

superskankinactionhero 05-05-2005 05:34 PM

AndreTheHyena 05-05-2005 05:35 PM

superskankinactionhero 05-05-2005 05:35 PM

see above

Forest_Fire 05-05-2005 05:39 PM

I hate kentucky derby time

I'm not sure about online, I haven't really looked. I just buy his books cuz I like owning books. You may try www.gonzo.org.

superskankinactionhero 05-05-2005 05:43 PM

sketchyjoe 05-05-2005 05:45 PM

Punk rockers have good taste in books then.

AndreTheHyena 05-05-2005 05:47 PM

Yeah, but they all read the same books. Just like they all watch the same movies. Surrounding yourself with like-minded people wil ensure that you never grow, as you have nothing challenging you.

Only the weak want to be agreeable.

Brain Toad 05-05-2005 05:49 PM

I didn't read them because I wanted to be like them all. I read them because I had read 1984 in class, and just started going for similiar books by other people's recommendations.

sketchyjoe 05-05-2005 05:49 PM
Only the weak want to be agreeable.
I disagree.

superskankinactionhero 05-05-2005 05:50 PM
I disagree.
see how strong joe is?

Brain Toad 05-05-2005 05:50 PM

I forgot some of my favourite books as well in that list. How could I? The entire Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy trilogy of 5 parts (although Mostly Harmless isnt that good)

sketchyjoe 05-05-2005 05:51 PM

Catch 22 > All other books

Brain Toad 05-05-2005 05:52 PM

Catch 22 is fantastic, although I had to read some paragraphs a couple times before they made sense. You've got to really pay attention in some parts.

pedro durruti 05-05-2005 05:54 PM

My favorite book is America the Book

That's what makes it so awesome. Any idiot can read Animal Farm.

AndreTheHyena 05-05-2005 05:57 PM

My favorite book is White Noise by Chuck Delillo.

Speaking of favorite literary works, check out this Poe poem. I rediscovered it recently. My father wrote it on the back of a postcard and mailed it to me when I was in college 2 or 3 years ago. It still amazes me, especially the first stanza: http://www.erzsebel.com/clock/clockarchives/002612.html
That's what makes it so awesome. Any idiot can read Animal Farm.
Yeah. Not everyone gets the references. I remember when I was in 10th grade, the honors English classes read it and thought it was just a bunch of talking animals.

These are the same idiots who read Brave New World and pondered "why didnt they just revolt" and didnt understand most of the book.

AndreTheHyena 05-05-2005 05:59 PM
That's what makes it so awesome. Any idiot can read Animal Farm.
, yeah, and they do. And then pretend they're scholarly. I do like Orwell though, despite all the hype. I wasn't a big 1984 fan. I think I liked A Brave New World better, but I'm not sure. I wasn't too impressed with either of them.

sketchyjoe 05-05-2005 05:59 PM

I liked Animal Farm. I thought 1984 was overrated though.

Brain Toad 05-05-2005 06:01 PM

I read 1984 right after reading Native Son. That helped make both a little more intresting, since one is somewhat anti-communism and the other pro-communism. But Native Son was pretty bad. Loads of long-winded pointless speeches.

AndreTheHyena 05-05-2005 06:01 PM

Yeah, I agree (@ sketch). I read Animal Farm in third grade, and though most of the symbolism was lost on me, I read it in a gifted class and our teacher patiently explained it, which helped. I need to read it again someday, but I've got quite a stack I'm trying to get through right now.

I've finished three books in the past week, it gets exhausting.

Brain Toad 05-05-2005 06:02 PM

I need more books for the summer, that is my time to just start reading endlessly. Maybe I'll start reading some Stephen King again for some fun.

Silvermedalmafia 05-05-2005 06:04 PM

If any of you guys like the murder mysteries read something by Janwielm Van De Etering. The best way to describe his books are philosophical murder mysteries.

AndreTheHyena 05-05-2005 06:05 PM

I hate Stephen King. He's too obsessed with sex and dicks. I did enjoy It, though. It's much scarier than the movie.

Brain Toad 05-05-2005 06:08 PM

I enjoy his short stories more than his actual novels. Usuaully read them when I need a good relaxing read that requires little thinking and more enjoyment. I haven't read a Star Wars book in ages, maybe I should get more into those, except none of those prequel books, those just look bad to me.
