As a youngster, this nasty little parasitic crustacean begins a life of terror by fighting its way through the gills of its fish host of choice, the snapper. Once there, it attaches itself to the fish’s tongue and begins feeding on the rich blood pumping through the artery underneath. As the parasite grows, it drinks more blood and eventually causes the tongue to atrophy and disintegrate. But does the Cymothoa mouth-squatter leave its fishy friend tongueless? Of course not. It does any craft parasite would do and replaces the old tongue with its own body. The fish is actually able to use the parasite just like a normal tongue, only it has to share all the food with its new friend.
|
that is insane
i like that one parasite that controls ants brains and turns them into zombies and purposefully gets them eaten by cows so they can reproduce |

dat's fuked up. wondering right now if my tounge is really a tounge
|
are you a fish
if not it probably is |
the parasite is kind of cute which is even more disturbing. it looks like an old turtle with extra legs in the first one and a sheep in the second one! awwwww!
|
it'd be cool if the parasite's tongue was another parasite tongue guy.
|
It wouldn't work, they connect to feed off arterial blood which I imagine wouldnt' get to the parasite.
|
I wonder what happens when 2 of them try to claim the same fish
like do they fight or does the one that got there 2nd just back off and move on |
It wouldn't work, they connect to feed off arterial blood which I imagine wouldnt' get to the parasite.
It could do the same thing that the bigger one did :) |
that **** is crazy
|
that parasite stole my shtick
|
It could do the same thing that the bigger one did :)
That's assuming the parasite is somehow linked to the the fish's circulation system, which I'm not sure it does. Unless it can somehow connect to its arterial system, a similar parasite wouldn't have any reason to latch onto it. |
yeah bro you think you know about it but you doesn't
