Should I get Capillary Lockdown or Strangers Everyday by the Red Scare?
whiteminority 09-17-2005 09:38 AM
Definitely Capillary Lockdown
SunnyDayRealEstateAM 09-17-2005 09:52 AM
It's better than any of their other stuff. They seem to be getting more progressive and technical as they age. It is my favorite album of the year so far.
I agree thats its better than their old stuff. Also its one of my favorite albums of the year so far. The best so far for me have been Frances The Mute by The Mars Volta, Nuclear Sad Nuclear by The Number 12 Looks Like You, and Alaska by BTBAM.

whiteminority 09-17-2005 10:43 AM

my favorite album of the year is nothing since i dont have alaska yet and i havnt bought any albums that have come out this year. only new album i have listened to is chimaira's "nothing remains" and that is alright not great.

biggest letdown of the year = O, God the Aftermath

Special Brew 09-17-2005 10:55 AM

That's only because it's Norma Jean. One good song actually, which was Bayonetwork. Everything else they have ever made sucks a nut.

whiteminority 09-17-2005 11:36 AM

i hated that album. but i liked their first one.

RetiredAt21 09-17-2005 12:08 PM

I could never get into Norma Jean. My friend tried to get me into them, but I killed him.

deadohiosky9 09-17-2005 12:31 PM

norma jean were locals around here. they suck.

SunnyDayRealEstateAM 09-17-2005 01:16 PM

I like Norma Jean. I think O, God was good. Just my opinion.

StandingStill 09-17-2005 04:17 PM

How many vocalists have they got through now?

deadohiosky9 09-17-2005 09:12 PM

i believe this is only their second.

whiteminority 09-17-2005 10:20 PM

this vocalist made them the scene bastards they now are.

whiteminority 09-17-2005 11:22 PM

yeah they were generic but Bless the Martyr, Kiss the Child was alright for what it was.

Sep 09-18-2005 02:59 AM

I love the fast tom tom bit in the beginning of the second half of "Memphis Will Be Laid To Waste". I always rewind it to that bit because is sounds so cool.

I also love that drumfill in the second verse of "Piano" by Glassjaw, where he does the fast triplet thing after the double crashes.

whiteminority 09-18-2005 06:41 AM

word sep, glassjaw rule. in other news in emo i am distraught that i cant buy the orchid/usurp syanpse split 6" on purple vinyl because i am broke.
:upset:

but i am happy because i got Alaska last night :)

Sep 09-18-2005 08:42 AM

That first new song by BTBAM "Selkies" on Purevolume is so amazing.

whiteminority 09-18-2005 08:48 AM

that is one of my favorites but my favorite off the cd is the backwards marathon. you should definately pick the album up if you like selkies.

SunnyDayRealEstateAM 09-18-2005 08:54 AM

Yay! Ben finally got Alaska!!!!!!! How do you like it?

WetNoodle 09-18-2005 08:55 AM

I could never get into BTBAM, then my friend showed me some songs off their new album and I loved them. I just dunno what they were called :(

Which tracks should I check out?

/my first post in this thread

SunnyDayRealEstateAM 09-18-2005 09:11 AM

Check out ''All Bodies", "Selkies:The Endless Obsession", "Backwards Marathon", and "Primer".

whiteminority 09-18-2005 09:35 AM
Yay! Ben finally got Alaska!!!!!!! How do you like it?
im forming a new religion called alakaism.

SunnyDayRealEstateAM 09-18-2005 09:53 AM

Hahaha nice. How much do I have to play to join?

cbmartinez 09-18-2005 11:48 AM

I bought Rumors Laid Waste. Nice find, eh?

WetNoodle 09-18-2005 10:18 PM

OMG! haha

I bought Alaska! What a fucking great album!!

My favorites so far are: Alaska, Selkies:The Endless Obsession, Backwards Marathon and The Primer.

Amazing cd!

BTW, What the hell is up with Laser Speed? :p

whiteminority 09-19-2005 05:11 AM

I think Alaska is the album the band has wanted to do from the start but just finally got good enough at their instruments to do (not saying they were bad before hand, they were still fucking amazing before this.) If anyone has noticed the band progressed from a metalcore sound on their s/t to them exploring tech metal on Silent Circus to Alaska which is full blown progressive tech metal.

Alaska>s/t>Silent Circus

Sep 09-19-2005 06:24 AM

I still think:

Aspirations > Selkies > Mordecai.

Sep 09-19-2005 06:43 AM

I can't believe I'd ever say this, but I like a song by Jerome's Dream.

Thirty Dollar Bill. Whoever it was who said that was a good song by them, you are right. The ending is amazing.

Special Brew 09-19-2005 02:19 PM

Selkies is my favorite song right now.

quick_death 09-19-2005 02:38 PM

the primer and lazer speed
after one full listen

Wow 09-19-2005 03:04 PM

True that.

Metallion#666 09-19-2005 04:19 PM

EMO is a waste of time listen to real metal!

By the way Bush sucks.

EmergencyRoom 09-19-2005 04:21 PM

I haven't seen At The Drive-In, Fall Of Troy or Sparta in any of the other forums(i could just be bad at finding things though) and have heard them classed as Emo/screamo. Would this be accurate? I personally hate genre lassification but i'm interested what everyone would class them as and i thought that here would be a good place to ask.

Thanks :thumb:

No.

cbmartinez 09-19-2005 04:43 PM

At The Drive-In has some emo influence, more of a post-hardcore/post-punk/indie band though. Sparta is just indie and The Fall Of Troy is just bad.

EmergencyRoom 09-19-2005 04:57 PM

Indie isn't a genre. Fall of troy are a bit raw though, the production on the albums really doesn't help their case though. Thanks for answering :thumb:

StandingStill 09-19-2005 05:08 PM

I know the 'indie' genre argument, but if you get rid of it then I dunno what to classify a heck of lot of bands as.

Special Brew 09-19-2005 05:16 PM

Classify them as alternative.

EmergencyRoom 09-19-2005 05:20 PM
Classify them as alternative.
Beat me too it :thumb: . I've heard oasis and blur classified as indie and they sound nothing like sparta and many others classed as "indie".

Special Brew 09-19-2005 05:25 PM

Oasis and Sparta are both on big labels, I think, so they can't be indie. Yet many hardcore/emo bands are indie, but if you post about them in the alr/indie forum, you get flamed.
