LifeInABox 08-24-2008 08:20 PM

so for like pretty/popular 100 precent guitar driven post rock, I have decided that Caspian is really alot better than I used to think

???

Rothmans 08-30-2008 05:51 PM

Thank you so much, that's really appreciated.

I only knew about the album last night when I seen the video of Batcat last night and it seemed like the real heavy sludge stuff they done on Mr. Beast.

I remember them talking about going in that direction in interviews and even the dvd which you get with Mr. Beast.

Is the album any good?

Also thanks again that saves me a lot of hassle my slsk is given me a lot of hassle..

pow3rtr1p 08-30-2008 05:54 PM

I think Mogwai's "Happy Music for Happy People" is a nice intro to Post-Rock. It's the first one I listened to, and it got me absolutely hooked on Mogwai. They do some great stuff, and I'm yet to hear a song I didn't like.

Too bad no national chains carry any Mogwai to speak of (Best Buy had Zidane and Mr Beast but nothing else, FYE had nothing) so I have to order online, after taking most of my bank account out in cash to purchase some CDs at a brick and mortat store... Maybe a road trip up to Chicago to buy some decent music is in order.

Kage 08-30-2008 05:55 PM

well

i love the track batcat where they do the heavy stuff

the rest of the album isn't exactly like that. it's got some good build-ups, though

it's much better than Mr. Beast imo

Txus 08-30-2008 06:26 PM

Every mogwai is better than Mr. Beast.

New one is ok, i guess....

New Red Sparowes is ****ing awesome though!

Kage 08-30-2008 06:30 PM

Red Sparowes are quality

Rothmans 08-30-2008 06:32 PM

Cody Is by far their best album Young Team is good but nothing compared to cody.

Government Comissions is amazing too, I would give that to someone if they wanted to get into mogwai. The Strings in New Paths to Helicon and another song that I cant remember now are almost breathtaking the sound they have for this album is so fresh and clean.

sweboy 08-30-2008 06:35 PM

Rock Action and Happy Songs are their best imo. They've got the vibe going on those.

Txus 08-30-2008 06:38 PM
Red Sparowes are quality
Indeed!

Kinda off topic, but...have you seen Fitzcarraldo or Aguirre, the Wrath of God? I bought both movies, and they are fantastic :)

And now getting into topic again, you guys should check out Picastro, really good post rock.

Happy Songs is the best Mogwai, period

Kage 08-30-2008 06:39 PM

yeah, great movies, Aguirre in particular. Have you seen any of Herzog's other stuff? if not, you'll love it

Txus 08-30-2008 06:50 PM

I've seen only Nosferatu the Vampyre, and it was pretty good!

Tyr 08-31-2008 06:41 AM

I'm going to check out Albinobeach.

And Aguirre is amazing.

niobium 09-01-2008 12:00 AM

can someone please give me a definitive tracklist and running times of every song from the 2nd red sparowes album? there are major discrepancies between what is on what, and what is listed on amg/rym/wiki

Chrysostom 09-01-2008 12:10 PM

Do Mew count as post rock?

Water 09-01-2008 12:19 PM

is that a serious question

bastard 09-01-2008 12:21 PM

I am pretty much a Post Rock noob, so other than Sigur Ros and Godspeed You! Black Emperor, I don't know any post rock.

Any recommendations.
