Hells Bells 08-08-2005 02:17 PM

Yeah, I always wondered why they were called melodic death metal. Other than harsh vocals, I couldn't see any other characteristics

COBskater666 08-08-2005 02:18 PM

everytime i die is my favorite

Drugstep 08-08-2005 02:19 PM
Kissing the Shadows if my favorite song too. I think there is no questions asked when it comes to that being their best song. It completely destroys everything else they have in terms of melody, riffs, solos, keyboard, and drums.
5. Bodom After Midnight
4. Children Of Decadence
3. Red Light In My Eyes Part 1
2. Kissing The Shadows
1. Northern Comfort.

Something like that. I'm not good at ranking things in comparison to other things.

Shadows 08-08-2005 02:21 PM

I always wondered how they managed to make Kissing the Shadows so popular. That song was composed and recorded right nit he studio. They tried to hurry up and write a new song for FtR because they thought the album was too short. Now it's widely considered their best song ever.

/loves KtS

IheartSP 08-08-2005 02:24 PM

Well they really pulled that one out of their *** now didn't they? I spend like an average of 8 hours on each one my songs just writing the guitar parts, and they don't turn out nearly as good as Kissing the Shadows.

Drugstep 08-08-2005 02:47 PM

I never write songs, because I'm always positive that they will suck, even before I come up with them.

Shadows 08-08-2005 02:50 PM
I never write songs, because I'm always positive that they will suck, even before I come up with them.
That's not a good thing to think. Writing and performing your own music is so much more of a thrill than just listening or covering other bands. You should give it a try and see what you come up with.

CaptainWaits 08-08-2005 02:51 PM

heh, well I geuss I'll continue to do what everyone else has been doing. I've put my top 5 for all 4 albums, now I'll do a top 5 overall:

5. Angels Don't Kill
4. Lake Bodom
3. Children of Bodom
2. Mask of Sanity
1. Hate Me!

Shattered_Future 08-08-2005 02:51 PM

I wrote 2 or 3 songs...recorded one of them, just guitar. :p And bass...no drum or keyboard parts yet.

Now, I have writer's block. :upset:

AA-12 08-08-2005 02:52 PM

Ah, guys. In Flames was one of the founding bands of the whole gothenburg sound in melodic death metal. I don't think anyone comes closer to gotherburg than them, maybe Dark Tranquility. Arch Enemy? Gothenburg? No way. Also to the death metal thing, listen to their old music, it was definitely death.

About the HB vs. FTR thing, I like HB more. FTR was made so good because of the people who produced it. I'd confidently say that it has the best production of any metal album ever made.

Shattered_Future 08-08-2005 02:53 PM

Arch Enemy doesn't have the Gothenburg sound, no...there's no denying they're melodic death though.

Shadows 08-08-2005 02:58 PM

I think newer Arch Enemy is somewhat Gothenburg. I was listening to Doomsady Machine and Black Earth yesterday. Both have riffs in them that sound exactly like something In Flames would do.

Drugstep 08-08-2005 02:58 PM

I wrote three songs three years back, and they were nu-metal.

I wrote some thrash songs lately, and the nu-metal ones sound way better. It's like I was a more intelligent songwriter when I was 12, and that baffles me.

AA-12 08-08-2005 02:58 PM
Arch Enemy doesn't have the Gothenburg sound, no...there's no denying they're melodic death though.
Yeah, they are definitely Melo-Death.

IheartSP 08-08-2005 03:11 PM

In Flames doesn't have any real death metal sound in them though. I would hesitate to call them or Dark Tranquility or really that whole Gothenburg scene real death metal, besides Arch Enemy. I have Jester Race, and some songs, namely Wayfaerer and Artifacts of the Black Rain, sound really upbeat and calling them death metal is almost a joke.

As far as writing songs goes, I love to write songs, and I know some of oyu here have seen my stuff but if anyone else is interested in seeing my bands guitar pro's, I'd love to show you. Leah and FlamesofBodom have seen them all and liked them a lot, so if anyone is interested just ask. Also to anyone who has seen them already, there is a new one and I finished another one, so there are 2 more songs for you to see, they have complete drumming too.

Shadows 08-08-2005 03:13 PM

Are they actual recordings or still Guitar Pro files?

But any way, now that I am able to record, I'll most likely be doing a lot of songwriting. I'd like to make some stuff up and get it recorded...maybe give you guys a listen when I feel confident enough. :) I have a unique idea in mind that I think I can work with pretty well. Hopefully I'm not a shitty songwriter.

IheartSP 08-08-2005 03:19 PM

I'd like to get you guys recordings but we dont have any lyrics yet and we don't have a singer technically the person still has to try out, but if we don't accept him I'd be pretty surpised I alreayd have heard him sing. Sometime in September when we are all done going on vacations and such we are going to the studio and we should be recording 4 or 5 songs.

Drugstep 08-08-2005 03:37 PM

It is unfortunately impossible for me to get the songs from recorder to internet.

Unless I do something retarded.

I may post my ghey nu-metal soongs when possible.

flamesofbodom 08-08-2005 06:04 PM

Oh cool. New songs, i need to see them. Im writing much better now, the songs actually have a structured format. :p I like them a hell of a lot better than the one's i uploaded anyway.

Does anyone else have any songs to post?

Hells Bells 08-08-2005 06:20 PM

Yeah, lol the stuff I've been writing lately actually ties together, it's not just random riffs. I wanted to have some stuff done by the time my band starts up this fall.

flamesofbodom 08-08-2005 06:31 PM

The soing im working on sounds a lot like Opeth. Its weird...but i like it.

Hells Bells 08-08-2005 06:34 PM

Their heavier or softer stuff?

AA-12 08-08-2005 06:45 PM
The soing im working on sounds a lot like Opeth. Its weird...but i like it.
Awesome. Everything I write is inspired by Opeth, haha. Hell, my entire musical taste is inspired by them.

flamesofbodom 08-08-2005 07:11 PM
Their heavier or softer stuff?
Both. Its like the stuff off BP, it keeps changing back and forth.
Awesome. Everything I write is inspired by Opeth, haha. Hell, my entire musical taste is inspired by them.
Thats awesome. Is it as hard to write that way as me or am i just like that? It kinda feels like some of the stuff doesnt fit but does at the same time

Moses 08-08-2005 07:24 PM

Finally I went to Best Buy and got Follow the Reaper. Jeeze, I kept forgetting it. I also found Irony is a Dead Scene from The DEP which I couldn't find anywhere. (10 bucks)

Hells Bells 08-08-2005 07:50 PM

Really? The Best Buy here has nothing other than top forty stuff. Then again, most of the places here are the same, and if they do have anything good, it costs an arm and a leg.

Shattered_Future 08-08-2005 08:09 PM

I found FTR at Bestbuy...

Now they're starting to bother me. Bestbuy has almost nothing i want anymore...

Shadows 08-08-2005 10:52 PM

Best Buy has some stuff I like. They usually have a pretty good death metal selection.

CaptainWaits 08-08-2005 11:12 PM
I found FTR at Bestbuy...

I don't know how all you people at least find that sh*t at Best Buy. The two Best Buy's by me have nothing more than the top of the mainstream metal (Metallica, etc.).
