Awesome indeed, it really shines thanks to the simplicity.

Menschenfresser 04-01-2007 04:54 PM

Yeah, but I much prefer the "new" era.

the2stranger 04-01-2007 04:55 PM

Same here.
Jonas clean vocalson the new stuff are so amazing, as well as the more complex songstructures.

Tyr 04-01-2007 06:01 PM

I, too, prefer their new era.

leenis 04-01-2007 06:44 PM

I'm with you guys, but BMD is still a kickass album.

Phototropic 04-02-2007 05:18 AM

ATM 04-02-2007 06:20 AM

I'm really enjoying Candlemass, lately.

Have you guys heard of a band called the Manatees?

pate 04-02-2007 06:51 AM

The Horny Manatees?

well just for you then, here is a new song with Robert Lowe on vocals.

pate 04-02-2007 07:17 AM

How did you get ahold of that?

It sounds really good. Rob Lowe is like my favorite singer OAT, so I'm quite happy with it.

Jondur 04-02-2007 07:33 AM

It's a secret. Nah - I got the link off slowdeathmetalwithkeyboards.com

And because I'm feeling nice and because you're probably as dissappointed as me at not being able to make the Candlemass 20th anniversary gig at the weekend here's some videos:

pate 04-02-2007 07:39 AM

Yeah, I saw them. They sounded great.

The guy that shot that footage said that the show was professional shot for a DVD. If that's true, it will be a must-buy.

Jondur 04-02-2007 07:46 AM

Absolutely. You can never have too many Candlemass live shows.

I've only just stumbled across this band Ereb Altor, who play Viking-styled doom (like Scald, Doomsword etc) - pretty nifty stuff. The production isn't too hot but the songs are all there in my opinion. One to watch I reckon.

MetalOz 04-02-2007 07:50 AM

The new songwriting competition is DOOM so get in there and show them how it's done...

Sounds very good. I haven't listned to candlemass in a while and I only have the albums with Messiah and EDM but these vocals sound great. They really fit the music. They actually remind me of Krux a bit.

pate 04-02-2007 07:16 PM

Do you guys hate Rob Lowe's voice? He's my favorite singer OAT, but I only hear people complain about him.

Jondur 04-03-2007 02:29 AM

Anyone who complain's about Rob Lowe's voice is an idiot. He's the best singer in metal*

*except RJD of course.

pate 04-03-2007 08:30 AM

Thank you! I completely agree.

Jondur: I repped you my album.

Txus 04-03-2007 08:59 AM

He is a god among gods IMO. He is ****ing ace! \m/

We always agree, Lee :p

pate 04-03-2007 09:22 AM

Yep :p

Cheers man. I'll let you know what I think of it.

pate 04-03-2007 11:21 AM

Great. Thanks!

pate 04-03-2007 07:20 PM

Wino has done it again. I just got The Hidden Hand - The Resurrection of Whiskey Foote, and it is seriously the best new album I've heard in a long time. I recommend it to all fans of doom or stoner. :chug:

Jondur 04-04-2007 07:15 AM
Cheers man. I'll let you know what I think of it.
Well, for starters you will burn in the same circle of hell as Six Feet Under for crimes against Black Sabbath. ;)

Death Vox in Sabbath songs? that's just wrong!

I quite like it in general (not the Sabbath medley, the album). You have some good riffs and the general mood is there. To be honest, there's a lot that needs improving - programmed drums are almost always a let down and some of the keyboards are a bit honky, and in general you still need to find your own sound (and then stick to it!:p). I don't think the vocals fit - good, clean vocals would add so much to the music (I actually like the growls, would sound ace in a old Samael or Rotting Christ style black metal band!), with the growls it makes everything sound a bit monotonous and dull, which means you actually have to listen really hard to pick out the dynamics of the music (and let's face it - most people won't make the effort).

But on the positive side, like I said, there's some good riffs and they're well played. You have a good understanding of mood and dynamics and can obviously play well. There is real potential there so stick with it man and I'd like to hear your next one.

pate 04-04-2007 07:42 AM

Hehee. Thanks man. This is basically the first harsh, constructive criticism we've gotten for any of our 3 albums. :thumb:

The vocals: My cleans are abysmal, so those were our only choice. We've been looking for a singer and drummer for 4 years, and have had no luck. :( The album we're working on now will hopefully feature a mix of clean and harsh.

The drums: I completely think the drum sound sucks, but we don't have a real drummer, and that is the only program that gives me the flexibility I want in programming. So the tradeoff for flexibility is the crappy sounds.

The keyboards/synths in the opening track: I've heard plenty about how bad they are, but again, it was my only choice.

The medley: It was just for fun, and each track was recorded in one take. Considering those things, I think it turned out pretty well. :p

Jondur 04-04-2007 08:24 AM

Hey I completely understand why you've made those choices and we've all been there.

Drummers and singers are always the hardest to find so that leaves you with one option: learn to play the drums. Even the worst drummer will provide more feel than the best drum programmer. If space and noise are an issue get an electronic kit (I have one - it's ace and I'm going to record with it as well so we don't have to mess around with mics for hours). If anything the slightly overcomplicated programming in places detracts from the music at the moment.

Stick with it though - I liked what you've done (even if my review seemed a bit harsh) and I reckon you've got real potential.

pate 04-04-2007 08:25 AM

Electronic kit as in the full kits, or the little pads?

the2stranger 04-04-2007 08:29 AM

(cheap) softsynths and programmed drums are a good thingto get the outline of song.
But you always loose the dynamics, which is really ashame.
Tha's also why I'm not really fond of triggers.

But then again, some bands like Darkspace can get away with programmed drums, but that's not really the kind of music that fits in to your sound Pate.

The electronic kit is a good recommendation though.
Or program drums and run them through the Drumkit from Hell program.
The samples there are also really good, one of thebest programmed drums I've ever heard.

Daven 04-04-2007 09:47 AM

Or just learn to play the drums, like the most basic rhythms. It's not so hard.
