Hey I just got introduced to this band and I already love them just from the little bits and pieces that I have heard. I heard Glass Prison and was pretty much blown away and I heard As I Am and I like that one too. The only other band that I have heard that is kind of like them is Symphony X. So I was wondering which should be the first cd I should buy for them. I read reviews on a lot of them and they all sound awesome. If it means anything, I kinda like heavier songs a little more, but it sounds like these guys can do anything well. So ya, didn't know if there is really an album that I should buy first, like with Metallica most people say to buy MoP first.

MAthiAS 09-24-2005 09:51 PM

Get Awake, its heavy enough you'll like it but not heavy enough its still good. IMO.

But you'll probably like Train of Thought better.

like It's a Jam (It's also Majesty backwards, Dream Theater's original name)

EDIT: sorry for double post

Lord Abortion 09-25-2005 10:31 AM

Train of thought is my favourite DT album other than I&W

I am going to start posting here again. :)

HNLzero 09-25-2005 10:44 AM

I just realized that "Lifting Shadows Off a Dream" sounds way more U2ish than "I Walk Beside You".

I walk beside you is probably my favourite track on octavarium.
That and these walls...oh and The answer lies within...

But LSOAD isn't crappy.

the2stranger 09-25-2005 12:07 PM

That track rules supremely too!

It's a wonderful album...

kidthatplaysguitar91 09-25-2005 12:34 PM
wow, i find it really easy to memorise the instumedly, i just can't play it. I wouldnt be able to play it in about 10 years more of guitar playing probably. can you actually play all the different sections but not all together.
i'll look at it, and then play it, then forget it, i remember the first like 3 minutes of it, and the paradigm shift part

GenuineImitation 09-25-2005 12:35 PM

I like the album Octavarium. Its not my favorite, but I think it is better than everyone gives it credit for.

kidthatplaysguitar91 09-25-2005 12:35 PM

wow, i think your avatar is right when it comes to guitar playing.

Oni Link 09-25-2005 03:54 PM

I am so loving DT's cover of Gangland right now (just downloaded album). Discuss.

Metallion#666 09-25-2005 03:57 PM

I've been told i shouldnt buy Octavarium. That its crap. Is this true?

Oni Link 09-25-2005 04:02 PM

It's half good, half crap. I love Sacrificed Songs, it's really ****ing ace. The Root of All Evil and Panic Attack are also good imo, and Octavarium has its moments. I don't really listen to the other songs much.

EDIT: Not half crap, just half so-so.

GenuineImitation 09-25-2005 04:17 PM

I would recommend it. Its a pretty good album and there is only one song I dont like on it.

Cool I'll probably buy it. I still love I&W though. Take the time Owns.

By the way John P's solo stuff kind-of sucks

I wanted to look into his stuff... whats wrong with it?

Metallion#666 09-25-2005 04:32 PM

Its just like him saying, hey look how good i am. That just pisses me off. There was a big deal about him in last months guitar world.

Darkness 09-25-2005 04:33 PM

Its just shred?
