I've been meaning to learn that, but I hate tuning my bass down.

It's a great bass line though.

Lateralias 06-29-2005 08:40 PM

I didn't like Harvest on the DVD too much.... Pear just didn't have a good voice for the harmony if you ask me.. the solo was great though! It's one of my fav. Opeth solos.. just very relaxing.
If you don't have D*mnation, get it. It's soft guitar parts and clean singing the whole way. The songs are also around 5 minutes. Some more, some less.

I would also download To Bid you farewell. It has several different acoustic guitar parts and then some very nice metal riffs. Also, there's only clean singing again. 10+ minutes

A Fair Judgement is another song I recommend. The begining does start off pretty slow, but around 4 minutes on, it is one of my favorite songs. It has two solos, the second of which.... undescribebly awesome. Again, thew whole song is clean vocals. 10+ minutes

Those two songs were my first Opeth songs I heard. I'd give em a chance if you haven't
Nice, I'll check them out.

I know i hate that also, but if the song is worth it then do it....that song took me a while to learn.

Alrighty Opeth fans, i posted this in the YSI thread, but if you're too lazy to look there, ill put it here too.

From their upcoming album, Ghost Reveries. Encoded at 320 kbps, ripped from a satellite radio and given to me by a dear friend. Enjoy. :thumb:

Meh, either way...still there. Not hurting anybody...
Well, I have an audio version of the DVD. I can give it to you if you'd like.
But I'll understand if you wanna see it.
Thanks, but no thanks. I really would like to see it first.

Plus I've heard all of the songs, just not the same versions obviously.

Why is the A Fair Judgement so awesome on the DVD? Just to see the solos?

bucket 06-29-2005 09:40 PM

Hey fellows in this thread, we approach the 3,000 mark, I say we let Flynn do the honors.

... and I just read the first page of the thread; Flynn, do you live in MN? And where if you do.

RouteOne 06-29-2005 11:52 PM

Hmmm.....Am I the only one who sees a overlying story, or concept behind the Damnation album?

clayman112388 06-30-2005 12:05 AM

You mean the overlying story of Deliverence and ****ation (2 part album).

I know that the songs have a story to them, something to do with life and death, but I can't put my finger on it, it's really deep.

Wait, there was a two part album???

Yeah, I think it's a sstory of a person who watches her family leave him/her and the person slowly dies and goes through the stages of death.

Deliverence and ****ation are a tow part concept album, I believe Deliverence is about after death and ****ation is about life into death.

I am now listening to them back to back, so I'll get back to ya on it soon, but I'm just going by what I've gathered from random listens and reading random info.

Cool. I thin there are concepts behind every Opeth album, they are just hidden.

Yeah, Morningrise is supposedly about Mikael's then girlfriend who drowned.

Is that a fact? I though Deliverance (the song) was about a man who drowns his wife and mourns?

Lateralias 06-30-2005 12:20 AM

There is no concept/story behind the D albums... although alot of the Deliverance and ****ation songs were to be said that they were written while Mikael was dealing with his grandparents deaths. Sure you can make them stories as well.. Opeth are sometimes vague enough for this.

I'm going on things I read, so don't say OMG he said this as a fact, these are just things that I read, but it would make sense for Morningrise.

Both of the D albums were written at the same time, weren't they?

Yeah I ment to say both were written when Mikael was going through that... my bad

Darkness 06-30-2005 09:44 AM

Wasn't "The Night and the Silent Water" about someones death in Mikeals family, and thats why its least favorite song or something like that?

It was his grandfather who died...

haha, I said that like 20 pages ago :)

Darkness 06-30-2005 10:25 AM

Oh...ok. :)

I agree...only songs I have really gotten down on bass are Windowpane, Hope Leaves and To Rid the Disease...then agian, I suck :)

Deth 06-30-2005 12:44 PM

I've learned most of the songs off Blackwater Park, The Moor, Demon Of The Fall, Advent and a few off Orchid.

To Bucket: A Fair Judgement on Lamentations is awesome because is is slightly slower, everything is pulled off perfectly and it's just insanely good.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-30-2005 01:13 PM

I started learning Dirge for November today on guitar. It's going better than I expected, but still slower than I'd like. The acoustic intro is amazing, but I'm having trouble with it. I have less than one year of playing expirience, so I'm still surprised that I can play it as well as I can. :p

Deth 06-30-2005 01:22 PM

I actually think that Dirge is the weakest track on the album. It's still great, but I think the other tracks are much better.

I love the outro to that song.. the tone is so great. Alot of Opeth songs are really fun to play for me.

What kind of bass do you use?
