haha, yeah they were pretty good, beat us by a buzzer beater. Norco High had its fair share of dumb redneck teachers. i was too shy to mess with the teachers

Shred Danson 08-18-2007 06:35 PM

Nice.

Anyone here like A Plea For Purging? Good friends of mine...their debut cd is coming out in october on Facedown records. Should be kickass.

DJTeeLay 08-18-2007 07:42 PM

ICB, didn't they play at Cornerstone?

Anyways, I listen to numerous Christian Metal bands.

One I recently discovered is "Blessed By a Broken Heart."
They dress and perform like they're an 80's Hard Rock group, but their music sounds quite recent as excellent.
Melodic rifts with Brutal vocals and also known for the comedic 'Mic Skillz' series.

EDIT: It appears as if those links don't work.
I'm confused as to why.

Shred Danson 08-18-2007 07:44 PM
ICB, didn't they play at Cornerstone?
Yup, as did my band... They probably had the best shows out of anyone at Cornerstone though. Most likely because they won the gallon challenge between them, us, and Common Yet Forbidden in the Bushnell, Illinois Wal-Mart parking lot the night before. That was their good luck charm, bastards

I hate BBABH, but the "Mic Skillz" songs are entertaining.but childish. They have a stupid sense of humor.

DJTeeLay 08-18-2007 07:50 PM

I wish I got my band to play at Conerstone.

Well, I enjoy BBABH, but there are numerous bands I find far superior.

Shred Danson 08-18-2007 08:02 PM
I wish I got my band to play at Conerstone.
It ain't that hard. Start off by trying to get a spot on any of the generator stages there. That's what we did 2 years ago, and this year we got to play on the Sanctuary Stage and the Underground stage, as well as many generator stages.

DJTeeLay 08-18-2007 08:04 PM

What is the name of your band?

Shred Danson 08-18-2007 08:07 PM

With Faith or Flames. I only whore out my band in every thread on here :p

DJTeeLay 08-18-2007 08:14 PM

Ah, really?

Well, as you can clearly see, I am a n00b to this forum.

Shred Danson 08-18-2007 08:17 PM

Yes I see that well :p

DJTeeLay 08-18-2007 08:23 PM

Anyways, I've been in a few bands and this one is the only one that I think will get anywhere.

Since I'm assuming you're band is in farther progression than mine, do you have any tips as far as being in a band goes.

Like how to schedule practices, and how often should we have them, ect.

Shred Danson 08-18-2007 08:31 PM

Practice as OFTEN as possible man. We usally practice 5 days a week if it's possible. Constant touring and making the right contacts also helps..

DJTeeLay 08-18-2007 08:34 PM

The most we practice is once a week because we all have part-time jobs.
There are seven people in my band and I serve as lead vocalist.

Out of curiosity, what role do you serve in your band?

Shred Danson 08-18-2007 08:37 PM

I play guitar and handle like 75% of the songwriting.

DJTeeLay 08-18-2007 09:00 PM

Me and two of the three guitarists have an equal role in songwriting.

Shred Danson 08-18-2007 09:02 PM

Sweet.

The reason I'm doing so much of the songwriting is that our other guitarist is lazy...but usually I will come up with a "rough draft" per se, for a song, and see if the guys like it and get excited about it. Me and the other guitarit will then work on it and do some changing around of the riffs and structure and such and then we'll jam on it as a band and change it up as a band, etc etc...it's a long process haha.

thats the stage the band i travel with played... What day were you? They were Friday with Force 7 Records.

This was their first year playin it. They played Ichthus, and the Jim (with force7) loved em and offered them the spot at ichthus.. was short notice, but sweet.
pretty gud cover of End of Heartache
yeah, they actually do a really good cover of it... they've got some other covers they pull out now and then... Pantera - Mouth for war (i think thats the name.. i dont know pantera really), Pat Benatar - Love is a Battlefield (lol... its sweet), Pillar - Battle Cry or somethin like that.. not sure.. i dont know any pillar... they've done Blindside and Journy also in the past... but they dont like doing covers really.

-Sixner

illpressureurhinges1 08-28-2007 10:40 AM

well when they do do them, at least with KSE, they do them pretty well

publicastration 08-28-2007 10:43 AM

I thought that cover of The End Of Heartache sucked tbh.

illpressureurhinges1 08-28-2007 10:44 AM
I thought that cover of The End Of Heartache sucked tbh.
cool. TBH, i thought it was good. it obviously wasnt the original, but its a hard song to cover, and i thought they did it pretty well

publicastration 08-28-2007 10:48 AM

Why would it be a hard song to cover? The riffs are pretty simple, the only difficulty could be in the vocals. It felt very rushed and half hearted.

illpressureurhinges1 08-28-2007 10:50 AM

well the riffs sounded gud to me, and the vocals actually kinda resembled Jones's. it was a little rushed in spots, but for some band ive never even heard of, it wasn't half bad.
christian music makes me vomit
Christianity isn't a genre of music.
The members of the band can be Christians and they can express their faith through their lyrics, but that doesn't make the music sound any different.

Some Christian bands play Rock music, Metal, Hardcore, Celtic Punk, ect. The genre of music is the same. It's just people that believe in the Christian faith play the music which doesn't make it sound any different.

Plus, when it comes to most Metal, you can barely hear what they're saying anyways so it doesn't make a difference.

War of Ages is just as Metalcore as Killswitch Engage.
Mortification is just as much as Death Metal as Behemoth (Yes, I know they play Blackened Death).
Flatfoot 56 is just as Celtic Punk as The Dropkick Murphys, if not, more.

I've said my piece.

Shattered_Future 08-28-2007 12:51 PM

Yeah, but what I've noticed is that any band that labels themselves "Christian" is a lot more boring than their non-Christian contemporaries. And I have no idea why.

DJTeeLay 08-28-2007 12:53 PM

Perhaps it's just a coincidence?

When it comes to Metalcore, The Devil Wears Prada owns Catherine.
TDWP is Christian. Catherine isn't.

Shattered_Future 08-28-2007 12:53 PM

Maybe, but it's held true for 99.99999% of the Christian bands I've listened to.

Maybe it's the fact that all the Christian bands I've listened to are drop dead terrible -core bands. Much like TDWP.

Kage 08-28-2007 01:00 PM

"Christian" bands enjoy making the distinction. Why do you think there are Christian rock radio stations and stuff? It may not be a real genre, but it sure is a category that is used.

DJTeeLay 08-28-2007 01:01 PM

All Christian bands are drop dead terrible core?

You mean like mewithoutyou?
That generic, unoriginal, metalcore Christian group?
www.purevolume.com/mewithoutyou

Or Project 86?
They're pretty crappy too.
Same old Metalcore, I'm used to always hearing.
www.purevolume.com/project86

Flatfoot 56, P.O.D., The Chariot, Inhale Exhale, Life in Your Way, Blessed by a Broken Heart, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, ect.
All generic Crapcore.

Ha, no.
Every band I just listed are Christian bands I love, and that's just a couple a thought of in a matter of seconds.

All original (maybe not Inhale Exhale).

Shattered_Future 08-28-2007 01:07 PM

I said all the ones I listened to. Not all of them out there. I'm well aware that there's non-core Christian bands. I just can't be arsed to listen to them cause they bore me to tears.

The first band you listed, their singer should be shot. He's tonedeaf.

The second one is decent, but not my cup of tea.

DJTeeLay 08-28-2007 01:18 PM

My point is there are original Christian bands out there.

DJTeeLay 08-28-2007 01:21 PM

Indeed they are.
I saw them both the same day.

The Chariot sure can put on a show.
