Omg! Penguin Update

RetiredAt21 06-28-2007 05:58 AM

Does anyone like Mournful Congregation? I know I should've posted this in the doom thread, but I'm fucking sick of talking about Ahab and Across Tundras.

Dargon II 06-28-2007 07:04 AM
did you get her the one with the Nergal action figure with vocal layering action? My one year old neighbor loves it.
I dunno about that, but my neighbours kid got this Magic School Bus book and it had a cutout Nergal mask complete with giant purple dildo to stick on your forehead.

Then why don't you change the topic and discuss Mournful Congregation in the doom thread?
I love MC btw.

Because they only wanna talk about Ahab and other bands that I have no interest in whatsoever.

the2stranger 06-28-2007 07:12 AM

That sucks.
I want to discuss MC if that means anything to you.
I should post some morein the doom thread anyway.

You looking forward to the new Esoteric btw?

RetiredAt21 06-28-2007 07:14 AM

I didn't even know Esoteric was releasing a new album. I like them quite a bit, though. What's your favorite Mournful Congregation song? Mine is "Mother Water." So good.

the2stranger 06-28-2007 07:22 AM

That's an ace song, probably my favorite too, I'm also a really big fan of their demo; Tears From A Grieving Heart.
Not quite as polished as their full length, but soe damn fine songwriting.

RetiredAt21 06-28-2007 07:25 AM

I've never heard their demo. Any chance you could send it to me? :)

the2stranger 06-28-2007 07:29 AM

Sure man, 45 minutes of depressing beauty is coming your way.

LegionsofMarduk 06-28-2007 08:22 AM

I think Jon put a Mournful Congregation song on a cd he sent me a long time agp. Least I think it was him. It was decent, but I never bothered to properly check them out.

I don't know, they are a Funeral Doom band!

RetiredAt21 06-28-2007 09:15 AM

Are there any other funeral doom bands that sound like Mournful Congregation?

Daven 06-28-2007 09:16 AM

Just check out Comatose Vigil.

Maybe it wasn't him, I don't remember. It was someone from MX though from a really long time ago when we would do rounds of cd trades.

I need to elaborate a little ono what I said last night.

There's nothing wrong with discussing the origins of the genre, or bands, but what frustrates me is that this is all that gets discussed. Whenever something truely interesting comes up, it goes on for a few posts, but those not involved with the discussion would rather than use their heads and have a meaningful discussion beyond adding more and more bands to the wish list return to the mindless babble. The same old stuff.

Deth 06-28-2007 11:50 AM

That's on my list of things to get. I love the s/t Master album.

Invicta_Veritas 06-28-2007 11:50 AM

Here's a discussion starter.

What do you guys think is the biggest difference between pre-benton and benton era Vital Remains? Obviously a different lineup including Benton, but lyrically and vocally they are almost identical. So what makes the difference for you guys?

pate 06-28-2007 11:50 AM

What the **** do you consider interesting?

@Stevie

Repetition of this kind is definitely something to expect dude. Most of us have been posting in this thread for years so we have the feeling that literally everything has been discussed, plus a lot of us have kind of grown out of death metal and they're only willing to discuss certain bands which mean a lot to them than exploring new ones (something we've been doing for years anyway).

Stevie 06-28-2007 11:54 AM

eg the discussion of the meaning behind the bands music. meaning behind the genre. why we listen to DM. etc etc my dinner's just arrived!

pate 06-28-2007 12:01 PM

Meaning is subjective and bs, and I listen to dm because I like it.

Now who wants to talk about Sinister?

i listen to the kind of DM-bands i like. tbh. i know more or less about the history, but i'm not interested into old-school-death only cause i could be more "true". i don't give a sh1t about this.
i like DM, i dislike some bands, others not... only cause i have only one possessed song on my harddisk, doesn't mean i don't have a clue what DM really is...

Invicta_Veritas 06-28-2007 12:08 PM
Meaning is subjective and bs, and I listen to dm because I like it
This.

And nobody answered my question.

The pre-Benton stuff doesn't all sound the same. The only Benton era stuff I can remember off the top of my head are the two uber-melodic parts of "Dechristianize". Other than that, it all sounds the same imo.
